The Vampire King's Possession -
Chapter 564. Cold Heart
Chapter 564: 564. Cold Heart
It was time for the last meal and Mauve’s brows knitted as she realized just how scanty the dining hall was. Well, that was compared to the first meal.
Lord Levaton and his daughter were gone. Lady Marceline and her mate were equally nowhere to be seen. Erick, however, was back. He didn’t look to be in a good mood though and Mauve figured something must have happened.
The meal ended without many conversations and she found herself back in the room. Even though she had literally spent all day in bed she found that she was eager to return.
She settled in bed, having already washed up, and was ready to sleep. She curled up to Jael and realized she felt tired. She yawned, stretching slightly before she curled up, ready to sleep.
"You’re that tired?"
She nodded, "My limbs feel weak." She thought it was a lot odd because she had spent the entire day in bed.
"Get some sleep," he ordered and she nodded.
"Yep, I will."
She closed her eyes and felt Jael’s hands on her hair. His touch was soothing and she found herself drifting faster than she wanted to.
She pulled closer to him, pressing her forehead against his skin. She sighed satisfactorily.
It didn’t take long for her to start drifting away as she rode the waves of sleep. The waves were calm and it gently pulled her in.
She was drowsy in mere minutes and sunk into a deep sleep faster than she had ever done.

Mauve winced as she opened her eyes. Either she slept wrongly or something was not right.
Her head felt like it wanted to split open. The headache was fast and intense. She grabbed her head and tried to sit up as she fought the urge to scream out in pain.
"What’s wrong?" Jael asked groggily but he must have seen the expression on her face because he immediately sat upright, alert.
He moved closer and Mauve leaned into him as she grabbed her head. She found that she couldn’t even say what was wrong because the chance that her words would just be a high-pitched scream was pretty high.
Her eyes watered and she gasped for breath. She just laid on Jael and he didn’t move. It didn’t even sound as though he was breathing.
She was glad he had figured out she was in a lot of pain and didn’t need to be bombarded with questions.
Right now, she was just praying the pain would ease up a bit so she could catch her breath.
After about a full minute–even though it had felt like an hour to Mauve–she pulled her head away from his shoulder.
He looked at her face, his eyes heavy with concern. "What happened?" He asked.
"A headache," she whispered. "It was so painful. It felt like someone was crushing my head. The pressure was nauseating."
She was surprised she didn’t throw up with how sick she felt but the fact that a lot was happening to her body kept that at bay.
Jael brought his hand to her face and wiped her tears. "How does it feel now?" He asked.
"Better. Oh so much better," she replied with a relief sigh.
"Is it completely gone?" He asked.
"No," she slowly shook her head. "But it has reduced drastically."
The difference was so clear that even though she was sure she still had a headache, it almost felt as though she didn’t.
Jael squinted his eyes as he stared hard at her. Mauve couldn’t figure out what he was looking for but his stare was pretty intense.
"Sorry for waking you up," she said with a soft smile.
"Should I get the physician?" He asked without acknowledging her apology.
"I don’t think there is any..."
"Mauve, I don’t know how you feel and I don’t know how human sicknesses work but you should understand your body. If you feel something is wrong and I should get someone to check you then let me know."
Mauve closed her eyes and slowly opened it. She didn’t want to say yes. She didn’t want a situation whereby it was something a few days of rest would take care of and she had ended up making Jael get a physician.
She understood the trouble it took to move from here to Greenham and it has only gotten worse recently.
"We could give it a couple of days just to be sure. I just drank the drug Kieran made for me. There hasn’t been enough time for it to work just yet."
"No, I will send someone out to get a physician. Most likely Jean, he had treated you before and so far I think he did a good job."
"I don’t think you should trouble him. I am going..."
Mauve’s vision blurred out and she grabbed her head. She shook a little, falling to the bed as she felt her body go limp.
"Mauve," Jael cried.
"Sorry," she said while lying on the bed. "I just felt really tired all of a sudden and my headache is getting worse."
Her hands were still on her head as she spoke. It hurt but that wasn’t the only problem. Mauve suddenly felt chills.
She shook a little and then again. It felt like the cold came from her heart and was spreading to the rest of her body.
She shivered, her body shaking in waves. Her mouth was partly open and the sound of them chattering echoed in the night.
Jael placed his palm on her skin, "Your temperature is rising again!" He said in a panicked tone.
"Could you cover me up? I feel so cold."
Jael swore but did as she asked. After making sure she was well covered, he started to get out of bed but Mauve stopped him.
"Could you hold me for a while?" She asked, her shoulders clearly shaking through the covers.
For a second Jael looked pain and then he nodded. He wrapped his arms around her covered self and pulled her to himself.
Mauve shook in his arms. It wasn’t constant, it was like every three seconds. She would get a break and then shiver again.
