Chapter 562. Green Juice
Chapter 562: 562. Green Juice
Mauve tried to keep a straight face as she stared at the contents of the cup. It was worse than she imagined.
She looked up at Jael and he gestured with his hand that she should drink it.
Mauve trusted Kieran with her life but the contents of the cup gave her the impression that there would be nothing left of her life if she should dare drink this.
Mauve blinked as she stared at it. The smell wasn’t bad. It gave off a mint-like scent and something else she couldn’t quite place her finger on.
The color, however, wasn’t great. It was dark green. Even in the candlelight, she could see just how green it was and green was never a color she was eager to put in her mouth.
"Just staring at it won’t change the fact that you will have to take it," Jael commented.
"I am prepping myself," she replied. Her eyes were glued to it.
There was no way she would be able to take everything in the cup in one go which meant she would have to taste it and taste it again.
"You don’t even know if it will taste bad," Jael replied. "It might taste just like honey?"
"Are you trying to be funny?" She asked, not seeing the humor in the situation when she was the one holding the cup.
"No, but you won’t know unless you drink it."
"Would you like to have a taste? That way I’ll know when I ask you," she said sarcastically, finally looking up from the cup since he handed it to her.
"Would that make you drink it?" Jael asked, his tone serious.
Mauve’s eyes widened slightly. That was not what she had expected to hear. "Absolutely, as long you don’t lie about how it tastes."
"I won’t," he replied and stretched out his hand.
"Okay then, here you go."
She handed it to him and he accepted. Mauve didn’t miss the furrow of his brows when his eyes settled on the contents.
"You don’t have to push yourself," she replied.
"Are you mocking me?" Jael asked and brought the cup to his lips.
He took a sip and there was a long pause as Mauve waited for Jael’s reaction. His face contorted and Mauve burst out laughing.
"It’s not too terrible," he said and tried to hand the cup back to her but she was still laughing.
She finally got control of herself and wiped the corners of her eyes before she accepted the cup back.
"So, how was it?" She asked.
"It was awful," he shook his head and she could have sworn he shivered. "A mix between sour and bitter. It was quite shocking."
"See, I told you it would taste awful," she replied. Glad that he drank it and proved her point.
"But you have to drink it. I’ll get you as many sweets as you want. You’ll even get your favorite juice."
Mauve stuck out her tongue and looked at the cup. She brought it closer to her lips but as soon as she took a whiff, she pulled away immediately.
"Stalling will just make it worse. It is best to take it in one go."
"You only took a sip," Mauve cried.
"I know that’s why I am cheering you on."
"Okay, let’s do this," she said and took a deep breath.
Mauve closed her eyes and brought the cup to her lips, drinking the contents in one gulp. She pulled the cup away from her lips as she coughed. "Ugh!" She stuck out her tongue.
She knew she would gladly cut it off if she could. She had tried to pour it at the back of her throat to at least minimize how much of it she would taste. It didn’t make any difference.
"You did good," Jael praised.
"I feel like I am going to throw up," she said as she panted.
Her mouth tasted awful and the back of her throat was itchy. She stretched out her hand and picked up the cup of water.
She took a little and regretted it. It was like drinking the watered version of the green juice in her mouth.
"I need something sweet," she cried.
"But you’re not done yet. Kieran said you should at least drink two cups."
"I am going to die Jael if I take another cup."
"You will be fine."
"No, it will be these herbs that will kill me, not the illness."
"You’re already halfway there, you can do it."
****************
Mauve groaned as she lay on the bed. Her mouth was still bitter even though she had drank at least three cups of juice and eaten some sweets and fruits.
"How do you feel?" Jael asked.
"Worse than when I was sick."
It wasn’t that she doubted Kieran’s physician skills. However, she might have to ask some questions.
"It can’t be that bad."
"I want to cut off my tongue, I can’t get the taste out no matter what I do."
He gently touched the side of her face. "It should fade out soon," he said.
"How are you so sure?"
"I took some, remember? I can’t taste it anymore."
"You took a sip," she cried. "I took two cups. That’s definitely not the same thing."
"Maybe but it definitely gives a clue that it won’t be bitter forever."
"Of course but it is dragging out a little too long," she replied and rolled on her side.
Jael adjusted until he was right next to her, he gently ran his arms over her back.
"Would you like anything else?" He asked.
"Would like to exchange tongues with me?" She asked with all seriousness.
"Sure thing," he whispered.
She scoffed, "And how do you intend to do that?"
"I will show you, turn around," he commanded.
She did, looking up at him with back to the bed. "Okay?" She gave him an unimpressed look. The taste in her mouth was enough to sour her mood.
Mauve didn’t realize what Jael was doing until his lips touched hers.
