The Vampire King's Possession -
Chapter 561. Fragile Creatures
Chapter 561: 561. Fragile Creatures
Mauve walked into the dining hall and she could immediately tell everyone knew. Just how fast did news travel around here?
Mauve sat down and she could tell every single eye was on her and not Jael. The vampires finally took their seats and a few conversations ensued.
The number of guests hadn’t changed and Mauve started to wonder if Jevera and her father had no plans to leave.
It wasn’t that they behaved a certain way to her but they surely made her a little uncomfortable. They were a constant reminder that Jael would have to get a mate.
She glanced in their direction and found Lord Levaton’s gaze on her. She winced and looked at her food immediately. She hoped they wouldn’t stay any longer than they had.
She tried to eat but for some reason, the food tasted a bit bland. She figured it was the after-effect of the fever and pushed through it.
She finished most of her meal, only leaving a little before giving up. However, she didn’t miss the look Jael threw in her direction. She half expected him to comment on it but he didn’t.
When the first meal ended, Jael wasted no time in leading her to his room. "You will spend the day here." He ordered.
"Here? I can’t spend all my hours here. I will be bored. There must be somewhere I can go to."
"I will keep you company," he said, leading her to the bed.
She turned around to look at him. "You plan to spend the entire day with me?" She asked and he nodded.
"If you need to go anywhere. I will carry you there."
Mauve laughed, "Don’t you think that is a little extreme?"
"I don’t think so. I figured carrying you to and from the dining hall might have been extreme."
"You thought about it?" She asked in horror.
"Several times," he replied with a smirk.
Mauve laughed as she threw herself on the bed and instantly regretted it. Her head bounced as it hit the bed and she could have sworn she felt it shake.
Jael stood by the side of the bed, looking down at her. She stretched out her hand and he took it. She tried to pull him into the bed with her but it was like trying to move a rock.
He smirked and finally gave in to her tug but instead of joining her on the bed. He hovered above her, his hands on the bed as he looked down at her while she was directly under him.
Mauve blinked as she looked up at him and her breath caught in her throat. Maybe it was the way his blue eyes stared longingly at her or the way his lips parted as his eyes rested on her face but she was enthralled.
"A servant should be here with the herbs," he said and pulled away from her, sitting on the bed.
Mauve didn’t even try to hide her disappointment. "Is that so? Ugh!"
"What? Don’t tell me you have no plans to drink it." He glanced down at her as he lay with her back on the bed unmoving.
"Of course not. I will drink it but I can already tell it will taste awfully."
"What makes you so sure?"
"No herb juice tasted good. It’s as if the nastier it is, the more efficient." She stuck out her tongue.
"That bad?" He asked.
"Yes."
"Sorry," he said.
She pushed herself to a sitting position. Her legs were still on the floor, more like it dangled above the floor.
She leaned into him, her head resting on his shoulders. "It won’t be that bad. I just can’t help but complain."
"Complain all you want. As long as you drink it."
"I will," she said. "I don’t like being sick but more importantly, I don’t want you to be so worried."
"That’s what I want..." the rest of his words trailed as he turned his attention to the door.
"What’s wrong?" She asked with a soft frown.
"Lord Levaton is here."
"Is he looking for you?" She asked.
"Most likely, he wouldn’t walk this far into this floor if he wasn’t looking for me. This will only take a few minutes."
He got out of his bed and Mauve nodded as she watched him go. He opened the door and she heard, "Sire."
"Lord Levaton," Jael called. "Is something wrong?" Jael asked as he stood by the door.
He didn’t close the door but stood in the entrance with the door partly closed as he used his frame to prevent Lord Levaton from seeing into the room.
"No, I thought I should tell you myself that we will be leaving the castle today. Most likely sometime after the second meal."
It was hard to see Jael’s expression with his back to her but from his tone, she could tell he didn’t appreciate the interruption.
"You didn’t have to come all the way to tell me that. A guard would have sufficed."
"I suppose but I guess I wanted to tell you myself. I also heard the princess is sick."
Mauve stiffened, she didn’t think he would talk about her.
"Yeah?"
"I do hope she recovers soon. Compared to vampires, humans are surely fragile creatures."
When Jael didn’t say anything in reply. Lord Levaton added, "If there is any way I can help don’t hesitate to let me know. I suppose the war against Palers will pick back up soon enough."
"Yes of course," Jael said. "In a little over a couple of days. We should settle into a routine. This is all I have time for now Lord Levaton. If there is anything else you’d like to discuss, I can make time just before the second meal."
"No," he shook his head. "Everything has been dealt with, there is no need for such."
"I do wish you a safe trip," Jael replied and Lord Levaton bowed.
Jael didn’t wait for the old vampire to raise his head before shutting the door in his face.
