Chapter 559. Don’t Downplay It
Chapter 559: 559. Don’t Downplay It
"I like it like this," she replied, pulling her arms to her chest. "It will keep my fingers warm.
"As you wish, My Love."
Mauve eyes enlarged and her smile got even wider. "I really like it when you call me that," she blushed.
"Really? But you complain all the time."
"It’s a bit embarrassing when you do it in front of Mill but otherwise," she pushed herself forward and fell against him. He caught and she moved closer. "It makes me feel really good."
"Well, you can be rest assured that I will call you nothing else."
She pulled away so fast that she wobbled a little. He held her steady and gently placed her back against the headboard.
"You should take the soup before it gets too cold."
"Okay," she replied and he handed the bowl to her.
Mauve accepted it with her mittens and brought it to her lips. The aroma was the first thing she noticed.
"Try not to spill," he said, watching her closely.
Mauve took a small sip. The broth tasted nice, and the mix of spices was appealing to her taste buds.
"This is good," she whispered, pulling her head back.
"I was worried that being sick might affect your appetite. I guess I was worried for nothing," Jael smirked.
Mauve glared at him, "I don’t eat that much."
"No, you don’t. You don’t eat enough but it’s fun to tease you about it."
She stuck out her tongue at him and took another sip. She enjoyed the warmth as it went down the back of her throat.
She took one last sip, gulping the contents. She made a satisfied sound as she handed the cup to Jael.
She still felt a bit woozy and the headache wasn’t any better but at least she didn’t feel weak.
If she couldn’t keep her food down that’s when she would be concerned. She has only thrown up a handful of times and those times she was quite sick.
"Would you like more?" Jael asked as he accepted the cup from her.
"No, just want to lie down," she said and started pushing herself downward.
"Wait," Jael said, placing the bowl on the table. "You can’t lie down yet." He changed positions and adjusted Mauve so she laid on him, instead.
She groaned but let him wrap his arms around her. She did think she should fall asleep soon.
"Just for a little moment. You just ate."
"Okay," she replied and leaned against him.
"Your skin is still so hot," Jael commented.
"And yours is as cold as ever," she giggled.
"Unfortunately," he replied.
"It’s not a bad thing."
"How’s your head? Don’t lie, I can see you wincing."
Mauve gasped, "I wasn’t going to lie."
"You keep calling it a slight headache even though it’s obviously worse than that."
"It is not that bad," she pouted.
"Maybe but don’t try to downplay it. I want to know just how bad it is so I can decide on what to do. I don’t want to make a decision too late."
Mauve turned her head to the side so she could see Jael’s face. "I know and the moment I feel something is wrong, I will tell you immediately."
"You promise?" He asked softly.
Mauve nodded.
"Okay," he replied. "You can lie down now. I will wipe you down."
"No," she cried, shaking her head. "Just hold me, I am sure I will calm down soon. The headache already feels better."
"Are you sure?"
"Yes," she replied.
Jael didn’t reply immediately. She looked up at him.
"Jael," she called.
He sighed, closing his eyes slightly. "If your temperature doesn’t get any better I will give you a cold shower this time."
Mauve’s eyes widened in horror. "A cold bath! That will just make me worse, I’ll get an even worse cold."
"This threat is for only if you don’t get better."
"You’re resorting to threats now?" She chuckled.
"Of course, anything to make sure you get better."
"It’s just a little fever. I am sure I will be fine by sunset."
"I will hold you to your word," he said and kissed her forehead.
Mauve leaned into it and a small part of her wished he had kissed her lips instead but she was too sick to think in that direction.
"I will do my very best to keep it," she mumbled as she rested her head on him.
"You can lie down now," he said.
Mauve nodded but didn’t move, waiting for Jael to adjust her. He helped her get into a comfortable position and wrapped her in his arms.
She closed her eyes. Her breath felt hot against his chest. The coldness of his skin on her forehead felt a little uncomfortable but she didn’t complain, she didn’t want to leave his arms.
"Get some sleep," he caressed her hair and Mauve nodded.
"You too," she replied. "I am sorry I interrupted yours."
"You can show how sorry you are by getting better," he said.
Mauve chuckled, "I get it."
"Don’t apologize," he added. "Nothing you could possibly do can be an inconvenience to me. I’d appreciate the interruption."
"Even your sleep?" She asked.
"I think you already know the answer to that."
She hugged him, "I am really glad."
She smiled against his chest and closed her eyes.
Mauve could feel herself getting drowsy and she knew it wouldn’t take her long to fall asleep.
She hoped by morning she would be better because being sick wasn’t a nice feeling and she didn’t want Jael to worry so much.
Must be nice to not fall sick as a vampire. As if she needed another reminder that she was nothing like them.
"What you’re thinking about is unimportant," Jael whispered. His chin was resting on her forehead and his legs were entangled with her.
"What makes you so sure?" She replied. "Do you even know what I am thinking about?"
"Of course I don’t but I can feel your frown against my chest."
Mauve gave a sad chuckle, "How can you feel my frown? You say the weirdest things."
"Maybe but right now, you getting some sleep is more important. Anything else isn’t worth thinking about."
"You’re right," Mauve replied as she pressed her face against his chest. I love you, she mouthed.
