Chapter 558. His Shirt
Chapter 558: 558. His Shirt
"It’s daylight," Mauve completed.
"Yes, it is. Not just daylight but it should be way past noon. Unfortunately, I won’t be able to get you the herbs if there aren’t any in the kitchen."
"It is fine," she replied. "I am sure the broth should do the trick."
Kieran smiled at her and turned to Jael. "We can try to cool her temperature down. I’ll ask a servant to bring a bowl of water and a piece of rag. Gently wiping her forehead and around her neck should do the trick."
"No," Mauve groaned, "I don’t want that."
"You’ll have to bear it," Jael replied.
"I don’t think you should get any hotter than you already are so you might not need wiping for too long."
Mauve nodded.
"Though it is scary that your temperature is this high this fast. Did you feel odd before today?"
Mauve shook her head. She did feel tired the day before but it was nothing to worry about as she got tired all the time and the headache literally started a few hours ago.
"They will bring you something to drink, it should help a little. Try to get some sleep though I doubt that would be easy to do but at least it will make the pain easier to deal with."
"Thank you," she mumbled, closing her eyes. Keeping them open was starting to become a hassle.
"By nightfall, I will find some herbs to help you with the headache. This is textbook treatment and I am not completely sure it will work but I don’t think I should let your body figure it out on its own." Kieran sighed, "I truly wish I could have been of more help."
"Don’t say that," Jael replied.
"I am grateful," Mauve forced herself to say.
"I should get going. If there is any sudden change, do let me know."
Mauve grinned and watched as Jael walked with Kieran to the door. She closed her eyes and felt the heat of her body against her lids.
She shivered a bit. At least the warm soup should help with the cold. Mauve realized she didn’t know a single thing about being sick, if Kieran hadn’t been here, she would probably have had to rely on her body figuring it out.
Mauve heard the door close and Jael walked back to bed. She felt the bed dip as he got in. He pulled her bundled-up self into his arms and held her to himself.
"How do you feel?" He asked.
She opened her mouth to speak but her teeth chattered. She managed to get it under control.
"Not too bad," she replied.
"Okay but as Kieran said you can’t stay wrapped up this way. Your temperature will get worse," he replied.
"I know but I am cold," she said. "Just for a little while, until the soup gets here."
Jael sighed but he didn’t protest, he simply held her tighter to his body. Mauve shook in his arms, her toes and fingertips were starting to feel a little numb.
Mauve jerked at the sound of the door opening, she must have dozed off a little. She was still in Jael’s arms and by the way he was tightly holding onto her he must have been watching her sleep.
"Sorry, you only just managed to fall asleep."
She started to shake her head but stopped herself, it would only worsen her headache.
"It’s okay."
The servants approached them. One held a tray and another held a bowl with a clean towel.
They bowed before they walked closer to the bed. The servant placed the bowl beside the bed while the other placed the tray on the table closest to the bed.
They bowed again before leaving the room. Jael waited for the door to close before he spoke.
"I have to get you out of this now, we agreed when the soup gets here."
Mauve groaned, she scrunched up her face as if in pain. "Two more minutes," she whispered.
"No," Jael said and began to undo the wrap around her body. He had to go around twice to completely get the blanket off her.
Mauve shivered as the air of the room hit her. She curled up immediately.
"Would you like to wear my shirt?" He asked. "That should offer more warmth than your nightdress."
Mauve uncurled immediately, "Yes please," she replied with a huge smile.
"Don’t look so happy."
"Why not?" She asked, grinning at him. "It’s your shirt."
Jael shook his head and smiled. "Okay."
He slowly got out of the bed and threw open the wardrobe. He didn’t even bother trying to find any that would fit. They were all bigger than she was.
He walked back to the bed, holding the shirt. "Sit up," he ordered. However, he was already bending over to help her.
He sat down on the bed with Mauve in front of him. He placed her back against the headboard so she would have to sit upright with her strength.
Mauve appreciated this, she was too weak to sit by herself. She stared at him with a smile on her face, his thoughtfulness almost made her forget her cold.
"What?" He asked.
"Nothing," she whispered but smiled again.
He put the shirt over her head and just as he was about to lift her arm she said, "You are really handsome, Jael. Sometimes, it is really hard to believe you’re here with me."
She nodded as if just words weren’t enough to convey what she had just said.
Jael’s eyes flickered and he leaned forward and planted a kiss on her forehead. His cold lips felt nice against her burning forehead.
"It shouldn’t be so hard," he replied as he slipped her hand into his shirt. He did the same with her other hand and pulled the shirt down. It pooled around her waist.
He moved closer and tied the rope around her neck, making sure it wasn’t too tight.
Mauve lifted her arms and the shirt completely covered her fingers. She giggled as she shook them.
Jael laughed and he grabbed one of her arms to fold them up but she pulled her arms away.
"I like it like this," she replied, pulling her arms to her chest. "It will keep my fingers warm."
