Chapter 555: 555. Slight Headache

"That would be easy to deal with. I don’t know what it means to treat a sick person and the last time you needed a physician was pretty bad."

Mauve looked up at Jael, watching his face. It was hard to tell the emotions that passed across his face but she could easily see how worried he was.

"Don’t worry, it’s not the same." She grinned at him, scooting closer until most of her upper body was on his legs.

"Don’t get comfortable, you should eat," Jael replied.

"This is so comfortable," she groaned, rolling on his legs.

"You should sit up," he replied.

She groaned and nodded, reluctantly sitting upright. Her head spun a little but she pretended it didn’t. She didn’t want Jael fussing any more than he was.

He didn’t need to look like she would fall over and break into pieces. She didn’t feel any worse than after an overactive night.

She adjusted so she could comfortably eat. Jael watched carefully, she could tell he was preparing to intervene should something go wrong.

She couldn’t wait to be completely better. She wasn’t even sick yet and he was already acting as though she was falling on her face.

Mauve ate as much as she could before she stopped. Thankfully, the headache didn’t affect her appetite and as soon as she was done eating and drank some water, she started to feel even much better.

She let out a satisfied sound as she adjusted on the bed. She was full and she knew there was no way she could eat anymore.

"Would you like more?" Jael asked.

"Absolutely not," she replied. "If I should eat any more, I will explode."

"How’s your head?" He asked.

"Just perfect," she grinned.

He squinted his eyes. "Would you like something more to drink? You seem particularly thirsty."

"Not right now, I don’t think I will be able to fit anything more in my stomach. I might just explode," she chuckled.

Jael didn’t even smile. He simply nodded and adjusted. He leaned with his back to the headboard and adjusted her so she was sitting with her back against him.

"You know I am not that sick. You don’t have to treat me like I’ll break," she chuckled, adjusting to get comfortable.

"As I have said, I’ll do as I like."

"You make it sound like I have never been able to stop you from doing that."

"You have a couple of times."

"Really?" She turned her head to the side a little so she could look at his face.

"Or do you not remember? I can definitely freshen your memory," the side of his right lip turned up in a smile.

"There is no need for that," she replied.

"Hmm," he replied.

"Don’t you have to attend to the Lords?" She asked. "You can’t stay locked up here with me."

"Don’t worry about that. Already dealt with that. Any business I have has already been dealt with. If anything else needs my attention, Louis will take care of it."

"I guess his presence here isn’t completely useless."

Jael shrugged, "You could say that."

"Are you still annoyed that I made you make him stay?"

He didn’t say anything for the longest time that she had to turn around to look at his face. She peered at him and he pinched her nose.

"Aww," she cried grabbing it as she turned away from him.

"Don’t worry about that. I already agreed to do it and that’s all that matters. Everything else is secondary. I will deal with his presence to prove my point to you," he replied.

Mauve nodded and rested her entire weight on him. He lightly touched her head, gently applying pressure on her temples.

She mumbled gibberish words as she leaned closer to his arms.

"Does it help?" He asked and she nodded.

"Very much so," she replied, closing her eyes.

After a few minutes, he pulled his fingers away and Mauve tried not to show her disappointment.

If he had continued, there was a high chance she would have fallen asleep. She had barely completed the thought when knocks could be heard. Mauve jerked her head up.

"Ignore it," Jael said. "Whoever is behind the door will take the hint and go away."

Mauve frowned. "Wait a minute? You know who is behind the door?" She asked.

"Maybe," he replied.

"Who is it?" She asked.

"I am sure you can take a guess."

"Louis?" She asked with a bright look on her face.

Jael frowned but not at her, he turned to the door just as a knock rang out. It sounded a little different from the first one. Softer and it was just one knock.

"Come in," Jael said darkly and the door opened.

Louis walked in first while a servant stood behind him with his head bowed. After a few seconds, the servant walked in, remaining behind Louis and he tried to go around him without being rude.

"You had no plans to let in, right?" Louis asked.

"And I didn’t. You let yourself in," Jael responded.

The servant finally made his way around Louis and grabbed the empty dishes as if his life depended on it and out the room, he went.

"Mauve," Louis said with a smile. "You can’t imagine how devastated I was when I heard you were sick."

He walked closer to the bed completely ignoring the fact that Jael was glaring at him.

"I am not sick, I just have a slight headache," she explained.

"I am pretty sure that is the definition of sick. How do you feel now? Much better, I hope?" He asked.

"Thanks," she smiled. "But it is really no cause for concern as I have told Jael several times, unfortunately, he doesn’t seem to believe me."

Louis turned his attention to Jael and quickly returned his gaze to Mauve. "It’s not a bad idea to be cautious. Enough rest will get you back to normal soon enough and you’ll be running around as you usually would."
