Chapter 554. Pretty Bad
Chapter 554: 554. Pretty Bad
Mauve sat closer to Jael’s desk than she needed to but this was the only way she could get any work done without feeling uncomfortable.
His chair was lower than she had expected but she didn’t always notice as he would usually have her sit on him.
Her head felt a little heavy and she knew she should stop but she had already started and she didn’t want the night to end like the night before.
It was almost time for the second meal which meant any minute from now. Jael will burst through the door.
She leaned back onto the seat as she thought about her life. At this point, the only reason she was trying to see this through was stubbornness.
She touched her forehead, maybe she should let Jael toss them out as she hadn’t learned anything new.
To top it all, taking a break had made her realize just how badly her head was hurting.
It wasn’t bad enough to be concerned but she knew if she pushed this, she might regret it later.
Her eyes glanced at the door at the sound of it opening. Jael walked in and his frown was the first thing she noticed even though he was still a couple of feet away and the room was dark but the instant his eyes rested on her, he could tell he was frowning.
"Are you okay?" He asked, walking closer.
Mauve shrugged and forced herself to sit up. "Maybe, I am more tired than I want to admit."
Jael gaze darkened even more. "I told you not to push it," she whispered.
"I didn’t," she whined. She stretched out her hand and grabbed his pants, pulling him closer.
He moved as she tugged on him and she rested her head on his leg. "I promise, I didn’t," she whispered.
"How do you feel?" He asked.
"Only a slight headache," she replied. It truly didn’t feel that bad but she realized that the more she used her eyes the worse it got.
"Are you sure it’s not too bad?" He asked. "I could ask Kieran or would you like me to get you the physician?"
"There is no need for that. I might just need some rest. These past couple of days have been busy."
"Yeah and instead of you to rest, you’re here making it worse."
"Don’t scold me," she mumbled.
Jael sighed, "I am not scolding you. I am concerned and you don’t seem to care about your health."
"I do care."
"Doesn’t seem that way to me," he replied.
"Jael, don’t be angry."
"I am not angry," he said and pulled her head away from his leg. "I am taking you to my room. We will eat the second meal there and you’re to remain in bed until I say so."
Mauve grinned at him, feeling a little lightheaded. "As you wish."
"Don’t smile, I am scolding you."
"I thought you said you weren’t?" She laughed.
"I am now."
"I heard you and I won’t leave the bed without your permission."
He narrowed his eyes as he stared hard at her face as if he were trying to see if she was lying.
She smiled up at him, feeling a bit swoozy. He lifted her from the seat and she wobbled in his arms.
Jael frowned, "Are you okay?" He asked again.
"Yes, it’s just much easier this way."
Jael didn’t reply to this as he led her to his room. He gently paced her on the bed and she curled up a bit.
Jael joined her on the bed and adjusted so she laid her head on his leg while he sat upright with his back to the headboard.
"How do you feel?" He asked.
"Better," she replied. She just felt like lying there unmoving, her body was starting to feel heavy but nothing concerning.
"Okay. Would you like to eat anything?" Jael asked.
Mauve shook her head. She didn’t feel that bad, she could try to go for the second meal if she wanted but for some reason, she felt like she shouldn’t push it and it did feel very nice to just stay here.
"Are you sure?" He asked as he caressed her hair.
Mauve moved her head closer to his palms. "Yes," she replied, closing her eyes.
"If you feel any different, just let me know," Jael said.
"I promise I will, it’s just a little headache. It’s no reason to make a fuss."
"I’d do as I like."
Mauve chuckled and opened her eyes to look up at him. "Thank you and I love you," she blushed and looked away immediately, wondering what had prompted her to say it.
"Don’t confess your love and look away."
"It’s hard to hold your gaze when you’re staring at me like that," she cried, pouting a little.
Jael chuckled and gently touched her head. "How was I staring?" He asked.
"It’s hard to explain," she replied.
"Take your time, I have all day."
"No, you don’t."
"Yes, I do."
She wanted to argue further but the sound of a knock on her door prevented her from doing so.
Jael gave the order and the servant walked in with their meal. Mauve frowned, that was a little too soon.
The servant placed it on the table and walked back out. Mauve looked at Jael suspiciously.
"Did you plan to make me miss the second meal?" She asked.
"No, however, I did consider the chance that you might need to rest so I made the order before coming to meet you and it turned out I was right."
Mauve glared at Jael, she couldn’t even be angry. She was glad he had considered the possibility, it meant that he was constantly thinking about her.
"And you’re not going back to the study unless you are completely better."
"Fine," she replied and sat up. "But it doesn’t mean I am not angry."
"That would be easy to deal with. I don’t know what it means to treat a sick person and the last time you needed medical attention was pretty bad."
