Chapter 553. Not Even a Cold

Chapter 553: 553. Not Even a Cold

Mauve groaned as she rolled on her side. Her body felt like she had rolled from the top of a mountain.

"Are you okay?" Jael asked.

Mauve forced her eyes to open. "I don’t know," she said trying to sit upright. "I just feel really tired," she let out a yawn.

He frowned, sitting upright with her as he peered at her. "Do you feel sick?" He asked. "I know humans get sick pretty often."

Mauve shook her head. "Just tired." She could feel the start of a headache but it wasn’t bothering her yet.

"You probably overworked yourself yesterday," Jael said.

Mauve wanted to deny this but considering the way her body felt, she couldn’t argue. However, she didn’t think she overworked herself.

After Lady Marceline left, she had spent most of her time with Louis at the rooftop and didn’t come downstairs until it was time for the second meal which meant she didn’t go back to the study until after the second meal.

Jael had interrupted her work midway stopping her from working any further. She didn’t think she got too stressed before bed.

Her throat suddenly felt parched the thirst was indescribable. It felt like her throat was drying up from the inside out. She grimaced, clutching her throat.

"What?" Jael asked, adjusting on the bed.

"Thirsty," she managed to voice out.

Jael got out of the bed and was out the door in seconds. He came back in almost right away.

Mauve found herself smiling even though the parch feeling in her throat was drawing closer to pain.

"A servant should be here soon," he replied and sat on the edge of the bed, his legs on the floor.

She nodded, she doubted she would be able to speak without hurting herself. She scooted closer to him resting her head on his back.

"Do you want me to get Kieran?" He asked.

Mauve shook her head, she wanted to tell him it was nothing to worry about but she couldn’t dare speak.

"Your water is here," he announced. "Come in," he said even before who was behind the door could come in."

The door opened, revealing Mill. "Sire," she said, bowing her head. "I brought the water."

"Come closer," Jael commanded.

Mauve waved when Mill raised her head. Mill smiled at her and Mauve tried to smile back.

Jael handed the cup to her and she forced herself to sit upright as she gulped the water as fast as she could.

"Gently," Jael said.

She pulled the cup away from her lips and stretched it out, taking a deep breath. "More," she called out.

"Of course," Mill responded, pouring out of the jug.

Mauve gulped the contents and asked for another cup. This time around, she drank slowly, feeling much better. She didn’t think she had ever been that dehydrated.

"Feeling better," Jael asked.

She nodded with a bright smile. "Much much better."

"Good," he replied and she smiled and him.

"Did something happen?" Mill asked with concern.

"I just woke up a little tired but I feel better now," she replied with a grin, not missing the way both of them stared at her suspiciously.

"Get some rest," Jael said.

"What? There is no need for that," she replied. "I feel better. I must have just been dehydrated. I feel really good."

Jael squinted his eyes at her and Mill stared at her in the same suspicious manner. She could tell neither of them trusted her.

"I am fine," Mauve reaffirmed.

"If you say so but the instant you feel funny, you are going back to bed," Jael said.

"Yes Sire," she smiled and didn’t miss the smile that appeared on his face. It disappeared immediately as he tried to look stern.

"I shall have your bath water ready," Mill said and started to back away.

"Thank you, Mill," Mauve called after her.

Mill looked back and smiled at her before she slipped out the door. She turned from the door to see Jael looking oddly at her.

She pouted, "Yeah?"

"Are you sure you’re okay?" He asked.

"Of course, never better."

"Alright," he said and Mauve saw his shoulders relax.

He lifted his legs off the ground and onto the bed, he sat upright with his back against the headboard.

She moved closer and rested her side profile on him. His shirt made a funny sound as she rubbed against him.

"Besides, if I fall sick, it will probably be nothing serious. I should feel better in a few days." Mauve replied.

She was never the type to fall sick easily and even if she did, she always recovered pretty fast.

"If you say so," Jael ruffled her hair and placed his chin on the top of her head, without putting any weight on it.

"I do say so," she replied.

"It isn’t going to be easy to get you a physician," Jael explained. "Be careful."

She nodded and looked up at his face. "I will be fine," she smiled up, rubbing the space between his brows to get them to relax.

His worry made her feel really good but at the same time, she wondered if it was because he thought she was weak but she quickly pushed the thought away.

She has never heard of a vampire being sick while humans could die if they get too sick. His worry was valid.

"Do vampires fall sick?" She asked.

"Nope," he replied.

"Not even a cold?" She asked.

"It doesn’t get colder than this," he replied and put his skin against hers.

"Lucky you," she mumbled, leaning against him. She suddenly didn’t want to leave the bed anymore.

"I wouldn’t say that," he whispered.

"Then what will you say?" She asked.

"Don’t worry about it," he replied as he brought her closer to himself, holding her close as she got comfortable. His arms around her warmed her up from the inside out.

She knew she would have no problem staying in his arms for as long as she could.
