Chapter 542. Fermented Wine

Chapter 542: 542. Fermented Wine

"Then why are you here? If you’re so certain, why did you walk up to me? Aren’t you the one who said not to worry about necessary things?"

"Associating yourself with the human won’t increase your minuscule chance," Jevera replied, not acknowledging Sabrina’s questions.

"I heard you the first time," Sabrina replied, glaring at Jevera. "Is there anything else you’d like to add?" Sabrina asked.

"No," Jevera replied, looking at her up and down.

"Then I’d like to be left alone. You’re ruining my party mood."

"Hah we both know who is ruining the mood here," she replied.

Sabrina heard something snap in her, she was going to go easy on Jevera. It was already a joy to see Jevera this stressed out.

She was just going to leave Jevera guessing what her plans really were but the superior attitude Jevera put up, wore Sabrina’s patience thin.

"Maybe if you had been a little bit nicer to Mauve you would have stood a chance with the Primus but unfortunately, you’ve ruined that chance and we both know he’ll never pick you."

Sabrina watched Jevera’s face darkened before it returned to neutral. "Don’t act so conceited because you think you’ve got the upper hand now. It won’t last."

"Why ’cause you have something up your sleeves? Don’t you think you’re worried about the wrong person? I am not the one who makes the choice. Besides, what’s to fear from someone who lost to a human."

As soon as the words left her lips, Sabrina winced. She knew she had gone a little too low and by the pale look on Jevera’s face, she had struck a huge nerve.

Jevera spun and walked away without saying a word in reply. Sabrina shrugged, she was glad she was left alone but she wasn’t so sure about what she said.

However, she didn’t dwell on this for too long as she soon found herself enjoying the party, the conversation with Jevera forgotten.

Sabrina caught sight of Mill at the corner of her eyes. The vampire was seated alone on a couch with her legs crossed. She was neither drinking nor speaking to anyone.

Sabrina approached her and she watched Mill’s gaze move from staring at nothing in particular to resting on her face. She gave her a quizzing look but there was no hostility in her gaze.

Sabrina couldn’t help the smile that appeared on her face. Spending all that time with Mauve and Mill did pay off.

Mill sat upright as Sabrina got close, uncrossing her legs. Sabrina frowned, wondering how Mill had so much movement in her dress.

She was as still as a board and could only move in one direction. It felt like she was hovering over the floor with the way she walked.

Mill didn’t stand up but waited until Sabrina came close to her. Sabrina threw herself on the seat with a loud sigh.

"What happened? I doubt you sought my company because I am fun."

"Yeah, you’re right. You’re no fun. You already ruined it before I got to say anything."

Mill shrugged and laid back.

"Where is your brother?" Sabrina asked. "The last time you two were together."

"Where is your sister?" Mill asked and Sabrina winced as she remembered the encounter.

"Somewhere," she responded.

"Yeah, me too."

"Mauve was looking for you, she told me to let you know," Sabrina brought up.

"You went to meet her?" Mill asked.

Sabrina nodded, "You didn’t see."

"I was probably distracted then," she casually replied. "Thank you for letting me know."

"Are you going to go see her?" Sabrina asked.

Mill glanced at her, "I don’t think I should. I’d rather go back to my room. This party is not my cup of tea and if I go to see Mauve, I am afraid she would see that clearly on my face."

"That’s not enough reason," Sabrina replied, giving her an odd look.

"It is for me, I’d rather stay here in the corner by myself. I’m sure she’ll be fine..."

"I could go with you," Sabrina offered and Mill looked stunned for a second, unable to say anything.

"I am sure it must be a little hard to walk across the room with all the Lords staring," Sabrina added.

"Maybe," Mill replied. "I guess I am just used to attending this with Mack." She threw her head back and laughed. "He will mock me if he discovers I am the one with my nerves in shambles. Alright, thanks."

"Well then, shall we?" Sabrina asked with a smile and stretched out her hand to Mill after standing to her feet.

"Yeah."

*********************

Mauve watched Mill walk towards where she was still sitting on Jael’s legs. Besides her was Sabrina. She had to stop herself from jumping off. She couldn’t believe Sabrina had actually gone in search of Mill for her.

"I can feel your excitement," Jael said with an annoyed tone.

"You can?" She asked, wondering if he was just mocking her again."

"Yes, you look like you’re about to fly off."

"I can right?" She asked.

"You didn’t ask for my permission before. Why ask now?"

"Can I walk around with them?"

Jael frowned.

"Not for long, I just feel a little weird sitting here," she added.

"Okay, I will keep an eye on you, and don’t wander too far."

She grinned at him, "Thank you," she replied, and this time she jumped.

She rushed down the podium and got to them even before they got to the foot of it. Mill looked shocked.

"What are you doing?" Mill asked.

"Jael said I could," she replied with glee.

"Really? I thought he’d never let you out of his arms." Sabrina chuckled.

Mauve realized the vampire didn’t sound like the idea annoyed her, rather she was amused.

"He also said I could walk around with you two..."

"I don’t think that’s a good idea," Mill said.

"Why not?" Sabrina asked. "Don’t worry, everyone knows better than to try anything while the Primus is watching her like a hawk. Besides, we can stop anyone from approaching her.

"Where do you want to go?" Mill asked, resigning.

"Well, I don’t know. It just feels much better to be part of the crowd than staring down at it," she whispered.

"We could go back to the couch I was sitting on, it was in the corner and I am sure no one will disturb us there."

"Yes," Mauve said a little too enthusiastically. "Let’s go."

At this point, she didn’t care where they took her as long, as it wasn’t around Jael she was absolutely fine with it.

Mauve felt a stare on her back and half expected to see Jael as she turned around but her eyes met with Seraphino.

She froze up for a second, maybe it was the look in his eyes but she suddenly felt very cold.

She turned away as quickly as she could and walked between Sabrina and Mill, feeling safe in their midst.

The couch truly was in the corner of the room and Mauve had to give up her sight. She wasn’t complaining though, this felt fun for some reason.

She relaxed on the chair, her dress took up more space than she actually would. Sabrina sat next to her while Mill remained standing.

"Aren’t you going to sit?" Mauve asked.

Mill shook her head, "I have been seated literally all night. I’d like to exercise my feet a little."

Mauve watched a servant move towards them, he wanted to walk past Mill but she blocked him. "What are you doing?"

"I apologize but I was asked to bring this to the human."

His head was bent as he spoke and Mauve realized she couldn’t see his face.

"Who sent you?" She asked.

"Lord Louis," he replied and stretched the tray holding cups towards them.

"Oh yes," she replied. "I did ask him to."

"Did you ask for blood too?" Sabrina asked with a laugh.

"Of course not! I am guessing that’s for you two."

The tray held four glasses. Two held wine and the others held the same contents. Even in the low-lit corner, Mauve could clearly see the difference between wine and the content Louis was holding.

"Don’t mind if I do," Sabrina stretched out her hand and picked up her drink. She downed it all in one go.

Mill looked suspiciously at the servant as he walked away. Mauve stretched out her hand and picked the cup.

She brought it to her lips and frowned, it was fermented wine. She winced, she did tell Louis not to bring this but there was no reason why she should waste it.

She drank a large portion before placing the cup down. She thought it had a stronger tang than usual.

She noticed Mill made no attempt to take her cup yet and she was looking away from them.

"What happened?" Mauve asked

"I don’t know," she replied absentmindedly. "I didn’t recognize the servant."

"He could be one of the Lord’s servants. I didn’t really see his face," Sabrina suggested.

"I suppose," Mill said and turned to face them. She picked up the cup and brought it to her lips.
