The Vampire King's Possession -
Chapter 534. Saved by the Bell
Chapter 534: 534. Saved by the Bell
Mauve tried to keep a straight face as she sat down to eat. At this point, she might as well scream at the top of her lungs that Jael had something to do with why Vae wasn’t here anymore.
However, it was harder to pretend not to be happy because she was. Not seeing Vae on the floor with that hideous rope around her neck scavenging for what Seraphino tossed at her was enough to put her in high spirits.
She was grateful when the servants finally put her meal in front of her. At least there was something to take her attention.
She glued her gaze to the food and tried to keep her thoughts strictly about the meal in front of her but it kept straying.
She was sure Seraphino was aware that Vae was no longer in the castle, yet he didn’t seem to be disturbed.
Except for the scowl on his face when his eyes met hers, he didn’t seem any different. Did he not care?
She frowned, she was glad Jael had taken her away from him. To think he had done all that to the poor girl simply because he could. He deserved every bad thing that would happen to him.
She lifted her head and once again her gaze met his. Mauve didn’t look away immediately. She felt her heartbeat increase before she forced her eyes away from him.
Jael and Louis turned to her direction. "Are you okay?" Jael asked and Louis gave her a look of concern, even Sabrina had her gaze on her.
Mauve quickly nodded. Jael squinted his eyes at her seemingly unconvinced but he didn’t stress it. Instead, he stretched out his hand and squeezed hers.
She smiled at him to assure him she was fine and he slowly let go of her hand. Louis was still peering at her and he looked like he had questions in his eyes.
Could they all hear their heartbeat? That wasn’t very comforting. They could all notice the slightest change. That was very concerning.
At least she knew not to look in Seraphino’s direction again.
Another set of eyes had their gaze on her and Mauve turned to look at them. It was Lord Levaton and he was looking at her with an unreadable gaze.
She nodded in his direction and he didn’t acknowledge this but neither did he look away.
She turned her gaze away from him. He had been nothing but civil since the first time they met but recently he had barely acknowledged her presence.
She didn’t think too much about it as she was trying to be as invisible as she could at the table.
She remembered that he did have a meeting with Jael after this meal and she wondered if it had anything to do with her. Was that why he was staring so intensely at her?
She continued eating and reminded herself she would have to deal with this for another two nights and she won’t see the vampires.
Mauve wiped the corners of her lips as she finished her meal. She suddenly felt tired, a bath would be just perfect and then she would fall asleep in Jael’s arms like a baby.
She locked eyes with him and he smirked. She blushed slightly wondering if he had any idea what she was thinking about.
He got up first and offered his palms, she took it without hesitation and he led her out of the dining room.
"You seemed a little out of it during the last meal," he said as they climbed up the stairs leading to her room. "Did something happen?"
Mauve shook her head. "No nothing of that sort. I was just trying not to show how happy I was that Vae wasn’t in the hall. I didn’t want anyone thinking you had something to do with it."
"You shouldn’t have bothered. They all know. Well, he certainly knows. Your reaction won’t change this."
"Still," she replied. "I would be suspicious if I showed how giddy I was and I was."
"I am glad you’re happy," he whispered, glancing briefly at her before looking away.
"I am," she grinned. "Thank you again," she mumbled.
"You’re welcome." He stopped in front of her room instead of his and pushed open the door. "Mill will be here soon, let’s wait for her together."
"Don’t you have a meeting with Lord Levaton?" She asked as he closed the door behind her.
The only source of light in her room was the candle by her dresser. Mill must have turned them off before leaving.
She clutched onto Jael as he easily navigated his way through her room. He got to her bed and sat on it.
"Maybe," he said nonchalantly, pulling her down to sit with him.
Mauve sat realizing that she couldn’t wait to get out of her dress. It was uncomfortable to sit with it on her bed.
"Don’t say maybe, you already picked a time."
"Yes, I never said I wasn’t going to go but I am pretty sure I have an idea of what he wants to talk about."
"And what would that be?" She asked.
"You don’t want to hear it," he replied, looking at her from the corner of his eyes.
"I am sure I do. Do you think you could help me undo my dress? You don’t have to take it off, just loosen it enough for me to be able to breathe," she said.
Jael’s eyes twinkled immediately. He didn’t even try to hide what he was thinking as he rested his glowing eyes on her chest.
"Jael," she called, trying to get his attention. "What does Lord Levaton want to talk about? I told you I’ll want to know."
"Well, I don’t want to make assumptions so I’ll just tell you after the meeting and you’ll see I am right."
"How would I know you’re right if you don’t tell me now?" She asked.
"Hmm," he said. "Stand up."
Mauve shook her head. It was her fault, she should have ended the conversation before asking him to help her out of her clothes.
"Fine," she replied and stood up. He adjusted her so she was standing between his legs with her back to him.
He slowly took his time, undoing the ropes one at a time. "I should cancel the meeting," he whispered, his breath on her back made her consider the idea for a second but only a second.
"No!" She replied. "Don’t get any ideas."
"You know that’s not possible and I am sure you wanted me to get ideas when you asked." It sounded like it was a bit difficult for him to talk.
"That’s not true," she pouted. "It was uncomfortable to sit on the bed with the dress on."
"Is that so?" He asked and slowly started to push the shoulders of the dresses down.
"Jael," she cried and grabbed them to stop them from falling. "You don’t have to take it off."
"Hmm," he replied and spun her so she was facing him. His glowing eyes had her speechless for a second.
A knock pulled her from the trance and Mauve sighed in relief.
"Saved by the bell, huh?"
"Don’t say it like that," she chuckled.
He leaned upwards and kissed her, he held her waist and pulled her to himself as he deepened the kiss.
By the time he pulled away, Mauve was breathless, hot and bothered. He smirked as though that was his plan and slowly stood up.
"I will see you in my bedroom in a few minutes. I will try to end the meeting as soon as possible."
Mauve realized that all she could do was nod and hold on to her dress. She could still feel him against her lips.
She was still standing when he walked to the door and let Mill in as he walked out. Mauve’s legs suddenly felt weak and she dropped to the bed.
She watched Mill place the bath in the usual section before rushing to her with concern on her face. At this point, the other servant who had helped her bring the water in had already left.
"Are you okay?" Mill asked as she stopped in front of Mauve who didn’t attempt to move from the bed.
Mauve simply nodded.
"Your dress is undone," Mill said, it was more a comment than a question.
"Yes, Jael helped me out of it when I told him it was a little uncomfortable."
"Oh," Mill said with a frown. "Did I make it too tight?"
"No," Mauve replied, shaking her head. "It was perfect. I guess I was just tired of wearing it for so long."
"Well, alright," Mill responded. "Let me help you wash up then."
"Thank you," Mauve responded and stretched out her hands so Mill could help her to her feet.
Mill helped Mauve out of her clothes completely before she led her to the hot water. Mauve couldn’t help the loud sigh that escaped her lips as she settled into the bath.
