Chapter 526. Can’t Back Out
Chapter 526: 526. Can’t Back Out
Louis squinted his eyes as he sat on the table beside Jael. The meeting was about to commence and by the air, a lot of tension could be felt.
All the Lords were seated except for Lady Sabrina. Louis had noticed her run out after Mauve but he didn’t think much about this. How could he? His thoughts were consumed with the task ahead of him.
Damon was also missing, however, Damon didn’t even join the second meal in the first place. Louis knew it was because he was supposed to help the human escape.
He turned to Danag, wondering if the guard was aware of Jael’s grand plan. Something told him Danag didn’t.
Louis’ brows furrowed a little as Danag rose to his feet and walked to the back of Jael’s seat. He cleared his throat and started to speak, "Thank you all for coming. The meeting shall begin."
Louis didn’t miss the frowns of the Lords and the way they whispered to each other. Some of them glanced at his direction and their disapproval was as clear as day.
Louis merely gave them a bored expression. At this point, he was tired of providing a logical explanation for Jael’s actions.
Compared to what he had to do, letting a guard start the meeting of Lords even though the guard was Danag seemed absolutely normal.
"What is the meaning of this?" A voice broke through the whispers. "Why is a guard officiating the meeting?"
Louis wasn’t surprised by who spoke up, he had expected Lord Phelan to speak up even faster.
"Whatever do you mean?" Jael asked, his tone dripped with nonchalance.
Louis sighed, of course, Jael was the reason they weren’t making any headway with the Lord. Too bad he couldn’t try to appease the situation, he was too busy thinking about the human he had to kidnap.
"This is a meeting of Lords, we didn’t all gather here to listen to a guard."
Jael sighed and touched his nose as though he was about to talk to a child. By the way, Lord Phelan’s gaze darkened, he didn’t miss the disrespect.
"Danag is in charge of the Palers elimination squad. He accompanied me on the journey to Francine’s castle and was also the one the guards reported to about the attack on Lord Drusile’s castle. Not only that, he is also well aware of the drug both its production and uses. Surely, you can’t say there is a better person to officiate the meeting than him."
"We won’t only be talking about Palers," Lord Phelan refuted.
"But for now, we will be. However, if it displeases so much, someone else can take on the role. However, it has to be a Lord knowledgeable about the subjects in question."
"I will do it," Otis volunteered and stood to his feet.
This time Jael’s gaze darkened and Louis watched the confidence on Otis’ face shake a little.
"I may not know much about the incident at Lord Drusile’s castle but I am well aware of Lady Francine’s as I was in charge of the supplies and support in dealing with the after effect of the attacks."
Lady Francine nodded and Louis noticed many Lords followed suit, only Jael seemed to disapprove of him.
"As for the drugs, I use them occasionally even for my personal attacks on Palers."
More nods, Jael’s glare was still directed at Otis. Louis half expected Jael to attack Otis for stealing the drug with how angry he looked but his face broke into a smile.
"Carry on, Otis," Jael said. For some reason, his smile looked scarier than his glare.
Jael turned to him and blinked before looking away. Louis sighed, that was his cue to get out of here.
He thought it was still too early but maybe it was best to do it early enough so he wouldn’t miss the best part of the meeting and the faster he could get this over with the faster he would stop thinking about it.
Louis pulled back his seat and stood to his feet. "If you’ll excuse me," he said, and without waiting for a reply he walked to the dining hall doors.
Louis knew his action probably shocked a lot of Lords but truthfully, he didn’t care. Maybe Jael was starting to rub off on him.
As soon as the door closed, Damon appeared from the corner. "This way, Lord Louis," he directed.
Louis simply nodded, surprised that he didn’t notice Damon until he spoke. He quietly followed behind Damon.
Damon led him to the kitchen, which was surprisingly empty. Louis looked around, the dishes looked to have been done. The second meal ended only a few minutes ago. That was a little too fast.
Damon pushed open the door at the end of the kitchen space and the cool breeze rushed into the room. Louis took a deep breath before he stepped outside behind Damon.
Louis frowned, the moon wasn’t full but it was bright as though it wanted them to be caught. Louis smirked, he couldn’t deny that he would be curious about Jael’s next step should Seraphino get wind of the plan.
Damon was walking along the side of the castle building, leading him all the way to the back. As soon as they turned to the corner, Louis caught sight of Mack not waiting far off.
"I will wait here," Damon said.
Louis simply nodded and crossed to where Mack was. Mack looked him right in the eyes, he wasn’t fidgety, rather he looked pretty relaxed.
"Lord Louis," he said with a bow.
Louis nodded and looked up. The building was huge and by the looks of it, Seraphino wasn’t on the first or ground floor. It would be a hassle to jump down with a human from that height.
"What floor?" Louis asked.
"Fourth," Mack responded.
Louis swore, "Climbing up there won’t be a problem, it’s getting down we should be worried about."
Louis looked up again, he was already regretting it. Too bad he couldn’t back out.
