Chapter 525: 525. Welfare of Vampires

"Who is it?" Mill asked with a frown as she approached the door.

She looked back at Mauve and gestured that she stayed behind. Mauve simply nodded and gathered her hands to her chest.

Surely, there was no reason to be antsy but Mill’s behavior made her a bit concerned.

Mill turned her gaze back to the door, she was close enough to open it but did not attempt to.

"It’s me," a familiar voice said.

"Lady Sabrina?" Mill asked with a frown. She turned to look at Mauve with a questioning look in her gaze and Mauve shrugged.

"Yes," she replied.

"What are you doing here?" Mill asked as she turned to the door shook but she didn’t open it.

"I want to see Mauve," Sabrina replied.

"Why?" Mill asked sternly.

"Just..." Mauve said, turning Mill’s attention to her. "Let her in. I am sure it is important."

"If you say so," Mill replied and opened the door even though her expression said she’d rather let Sabrina remain outside the door.

"Mauve," Sabrina cried as soon as she walked in even before she even laid her eyes on Mauve.

"Hi, Sabrina," Mauve said, standing on her feet. Mauve didn’t miss the fact that she completely ignored Mill who was still standing by the door holding it open.

Mill closed the door with a loud bang, not hiding her displeasure. "What do you want?" She asked.

"You don’t have to sound so cold to me, Mill. I only came to see Mauve. I truly apologize for the interruption." She gave a small nod as she spoke but her expression didn’t say she was sorry.

"Don’t you have to be at the meeting?" Mauve asked, genuinely concerned.

"Nope," she said and rushed to where Mauve stood by the bed. Her eyes caught the items on the bed. "You can knit?" She asked and picked up the yarn.

"Just a little," Mauve smiled at her. "I am still learning."

"Could you teach me?" She grinned.

"I am not too sure about that," Mauve replied. "It will be better if you learn from someone good."

"I am sure you are, Mauve," she said with a genuine smile. "You don’t have to be so modest."

"Why won’t you be attending the meeting?" Mill interrupted.

"Because there is no reason why I should. I would have no input on what they are talking about and to be honest, I don’t really care."

Mill’s eyes widened. "You don’t really care about the affairs and welfare of vampires. That’s not something you should proudly announce."

Sabrina jerked her head in Mill’s direction. "I am pretty sure that’s not what I said but since you care so much why not attend the meeting? You’re a Lord, aren’t you? I am sure you have every right to be there."

"I can’t, I am on orders to watch over Mauve," Mill said.

"I can gladly take over your duty," Sabrina said with glee.

"No, thank you. I can do it myself," Mill replied and turned away.

"I guess I am not the only one who doesn’t care about the affairs and welfare of..."

"Sabrina, I appreciate you coming to see me but I don’t think you need to give up going to the meeting for that," Mauve interrupted. "I am sure it is important and your absence will be noticed."

"No, it won’t. May I sit?" She asked, pointing to the bed.

"Of course," Mauve replied sweetly and unconsciously sat alongside Sabrina.

"Trust me, it will be a waste of my time to be there right now. Besides, I figured it was more fun to hang out with you than a bunch of geezers."

"Isn’t your father there?" Mauve asked with a slight chuckle.

"Doesn’t make him less old and my father isn’t the only old geezer at the meeting," she glanced at Mill who refused to look in her direction. "You don’t have to worry about it."

"If you say so," Mauve replied with a nod.

"Would you teach me how to knit then?" Sabrina asked.

"I suppose I could but I did promise Mill, I’ll teach her too and there are only enough needles for," she gave Sabrina a sad look.

"That’s okay, I don’t mind watching. I can practice another time. How are you going to learn if you’re all the way over there?" She called out to Mill.

Mill rolled her eyes but she slowly walked from the door to the bed. Mauve adjusted to make room for her. The bed was big enough to hold the three of them without it getting cramped.

"What do we do first?" Sabrina asked, her eyes twinkling.

Mauve chuckled, if this was an act she had completely bought it. She was still cautious about Sabrina and she guessed that the distance and everything that happened in between didn’t help.

However, she could not help but praise Sabrina’s effort in trying to close the gap between them and she appreciated this.

"Well, first off you have to learn how to hold the needles to knit. Let me show you."

She picked up her set of wooden needles and held one in each hand. She held them with her index finger and thumb and placed them across each other.

Mill quickly replicated her actions. Mauve nodded and smiled at her while Sabrina looked from Mauve to Mill.

She then picked up the starting piece of the yarn and began to slowly roll it around the needle as she intertwined the string.

"Unfortunately," she started. "I only know how to make a scarf and maybe a hat but I’m not really good at that either so the techniques I can teach you will be limited."

"The fact that you can do this much is pretty impressive, I don’t even know how to hold the needles," Sabrina commented.

"Here, you want to try? You could continue what started."

"Are you sure?"

"Of course, that way I can look at what Mill is..." The rest of Mauve’s words drowned out when she realized Mill didn’t need any help. "Mill, you lied," she whispered in horror.

"No, I didn’t. I truly haven’t used these needles before but I guess I have seen enough of it to get the hang of it."

"Not fair," Mauve pouted. "I needed a long time to get the hang of it."
