Chapter 524: 524. Alleviate

Mauve sat in the hall trying to draw as little attention as she could to herself. The hall was pretty quiet, she wondered if the upcoming meeting had anything to do with it.
She slowly raised her head from her meal as she looked around. The Lords were engrossed. There were whispers going all around but none were loud enough to hear.
She brought her gaze down, she didn’t want to make eye contact with anyone and then have to deal with the awkward moment when she would have to look away.
She glanced towards the feet of Seraphino where Vae sat on the floor. She grimaced as she stared hard, urging Vae to look at her but Vae didn’t budge.
Tired, she looked away from Vae to Jael. He gave a little smile and Mauve realized she didn’t have the energy to smile back.
She didn’t know what Jael’s plan was nor did she know when he planned to get Vae out of Seraphino’s clutches. She wanted to ask him all of this but somehow it felt right for her to be patient.
She simply nodded to his smile before turning back her attention to her meal but not before her eyes met with Louis and he gave her a look.
Mauve frowned, giving him a questioning glare but he was already looking away and no matter how hard she stared at him, he didn’t look back at her.
Mauve was happy when the second meal finally ended. She picked up the napkin and wiped it across her lips as she looked at Jael.
"I won’t be able to go with you," he said and stretched out his hand to touch her.
Mauve nodded and smiled a little. She started to rise to her feet, prepared to leave the hall by herself. She didn’t want to spend another minute in here if she didn’t have to.
"Wait," he said, stopping her movements. "Mill should be here soon. She will take you to your room."
Mauve frowned but simply nodded, wondering if Jael already gave the order to Mill to come get her as soon as the second meal was over.
She wasn’t very pleased about this as she would have been out of the hall by now but she knew better than to refuse;
She looked around the table as she waited.
Most of the Lords were done with their meals and the servants were already clearing out the dishes.
They remained seated, however, only adjusting in their seats to be more comfortable. It was obvious they were ready to commence the meeting soonest.
The sounds of the door opening made Mauvs jerk her gaze to the door but it wasn’t Mill walking in rather they were guards she didn’t recognize.
They stood by the door and dropped down. Mauve thought they were paying their respect for an awfully long time. It wasn’t until Seraphino spoke that she realized that they had been waiting for him to give the order for them to approach.
Mauve noticed that during the entire process, not a single word left the two guards’ lips. As soon as Seraphino gave them the order.
They stood to their feet simultaneously and walked to the table, stopping behind him. Without looking at either of them. He handed the leash to the one on his right side and waved his hand, dismissing them.
The guards moved quickly, tugging on the rope around Vae’s neck for her to get to her feet. They didn’t wait for her to keep up with their movements as the other guard reached down and grabbed her arms pulling her up.
Vae grimaced in pain and Mauve immediately looked away, knowing she wouldn’t be able to stomach the rest of the show, and to avoid ruining her dress and possibly the table, it was best to look away.
Mauve didn’t look at Vae again until she was close to the door. The guard was still holding onto her arms as he pulled her while the other held the rope tightly.
Mauve tore her gaze away and she looked at Jael. She blinked in shock when she saw he was looking at her. He blinked twice before looking away.
Did he just tell her not to worry? She wasn’t sure, she didn’t know what that meant and it was slightly frustrating and disheartening that all she could really do was wait.
Less than two minutes after Vae left, the door was thrown open and Mill walked through them. Without any pause, she headed straight for where Mauve was seated and bowed her head to Jael.
He nodded at her and she raised her head. Mill turned to Mauve and stretched her hand to Mauve.
Mauve wasted no time accepting her help and the vampire led her to the door. Mauve didn’t miss the whispers behind her back.
She made sure not to pay them any mind. The sound of the door closing released the tension in her shoulders and they slumped.
"That bad?" Mill asked, giving her a quizzing look. The vampire was no longer holding her hand.
"Yes," Mauve said and let out a huge sigh.
"Then why do you bother eating with them? You can eat in the confines of your room. Surely, that would be more comfortable."
Mauve didn’t miss Mill’s confusion and disapproval as she asked the question. Mauve could clearly tell that Mill didn’t like Lords.
"Yes," she replied. "However, Jael would want to join me in my room and I don’t want that."
Mill looked away from her, "Is that so? You condone this for his sake?"
"You could say that," Mauve said with a shrug. "But at the same time, Jael invited me to join him in the hall, it would be rude to decline."
Mill chuckled, "I doubt he would see it that way but you’re free to do whatever makes you feel better."
Mauve nodded and grinned at her. "Where are we going?" She asked with a frown, seeing that Mill was leading her in the direction of her room.
Mauve didn’t want to go there just yet. She wanted to go to the Library, she could tell the meeting won’t be over until the last meal if not longer. She would be bored if she decided to stay in her room the entire time.
"Your room," Mill replied without looking back. She was already close enough to the door of Mauve’s room at this point.
"No," Mauve said, shaking her head. "I was hoping I could go to the library. I can go to my room later."
Mill finally turned to look at Mauve who had not moved an inch from the top of the stairs. "I am afraid that won’t be possible."
Mill closed the space before Mauve could even form her reply. Vae closed the gap between them too fast for Mauve’s eyes to keep up.
Mauve was taken aback, it was easy to forget sometimes that Mill was a vampire as Mill didn’t use her superhuman strength around Mauve very often.
"Why not?" Mauve asked as Mill grabbed her arm and tugged. She couldn’t help but think the vampire was acting very strangely.
"The Primus orders but don’t worry. You won’t be alone, I’ll keep you company until the end of the meeting. I’ll get you whatever you need but you will get that in your room."
Maybe it was Mill’s serious expression or the way the vampire squeezed her wrist as she spoke but Mauve found that she didn’t protest but simply nodded as she let Mill lead her to her room.
The room was surprisingly brighter than the last time she was here. Mauve did a little spin as she looked around.
"I didn’t want you to be bored so I brought some things."
"What is that?" Mauve chuckled as she rushed to the bed.
"Well, I didn’t want you to be bored so I brought what I thought you’d have fun doing."
Mauve laughed again, "You didn’t have to, we could have just had a conversation while we waited. We could gossip about the Lords," she said with a giggle.
"Well, the Primus said to let you get whatever you wanted."
"It’s just a few hours. I have had to stay in my room for longer. There is no need for this," Mauve said with a bright smile.
"Well, you could teach me. I haven’t the faintest idea on how to do it," Mill said with a serious expression. "I brought another needle for myself."
Mauve’s eyes widened, "You’re serious."
"Of course," Mill said with a nod as she walked closer to the bed.
Mauve shook her head as she tried to contain her laugh. "You don’t have to go this far Mill, simply because you’re trying to alleviate my boredom. Your company is more than enough."
The two of them frowned as they turned their attention to the door and by the look on Mill’s face, they weren’t supposed to be interrupted.
