Chapter 523: 523. The Fuss

Helana looked at her sister in disbelief. She glanced at Mauve and then back at Sabrina. Her shock was almost amusing to Mauve but Mauve was still trying to process the fact that Sabrina had just scolded her sister on Mauve’s behalf.
Helana opened her eyes wider and she opened her mouth to say something. Mauve didn’t miss her hesitation as Helana sent a glare her way.
She let out a loud breath. "I can’t find my gem pendant, the matching ones mother gave us. It was in my jewelry box the last time I checked but now it’s not there anymore," she said in one breath.
"No, it wasn’t," Sabrina replied with an eye roll, it was obvious her patience was dwindling. "You literally asked me to keep it for you."
"I did?" Helana looked incredibly confused.
"Yes, you did. You took it off and handed it to me because it was easier than keeping it yourself. Check my bags, the pendant should be in my jewelry box."
Helana grimaced, "Wouldn’t it be faster and better if you got it for me? I don’t want to make a mess of your bags and the items in them."
"I can direct you on what nah to check. Though I am not exactly sure what bag the servants packed it in, I can guess."
"Why guess when you can just check it yourself," Helana mumbled.
Sabrina gave her an unimpressed look. "Then come back later, as you can see I am busy."
"But I need it now. It’s almost time for the second meal. I intend to wear it then."
Sabrina turned away from her. Mauve didn’t miss her irritation. "Wear something else."
"No, it has to be the pendant. It will match perfectly with my dress," she cried,
"Then you better start checking."
Helana pouted but one look at her sister’s face told her she wasn’t going to get what she wanted. "What bag?" She asked rudely.
"Check the smallest one," Sabrina replied without looking at her.
"What if it isn’t there?" Helana asked without making any move towards the bags.
"Then I will tell you the next one to check."
Helana pouted again and mumbled something Mauve couldn’t hear. She took a step forward, walking to where the bag lay beside the bed.
Mauve frowned as she realized the bags were closer to where she sat which meant Helana would have to come close enough to touch to get what she wanted.
She stopped in front of the bags and dropped down squatting. Helana picked up the bag Sabrina had mentioned and pulled it open.
However, instead of searching inside the bag, she poured the contents on the floor.
"Helana," her sister scolded.
"What? This is faster and don’t worry I will put everything back."
"Whether you put it back or not, it doesn’t matter. I don’t want my thing all over the floor."
"Then you should have helped me," she mumbled pouting as picked up the jewelry box which had fallen out.
"Whatever, get your pendant and leave my room."
"Alright. You don’t have to yell at me."
Helana adjusted the box on her palms. The box was bigger than Mauve had thought it would be. Surely, it was heavy but Helana was holding it as if it weighed nothing.
The box was a gold color and Mauve could tell it had been made out of precious metals. It glittered and Mauve wondered if it was pieces of gem arranged at the top.
She watched Helana press a button and the box sprung open revealing a very exotic set of expensive jewelry.
Helana placed the box on the ground as she searched for her pendant. The sounds of gems hitting each other echoed in the room.
"Found it," she announced, shutting the box close and standing at her feet.
"Good, now bye." Sabrina wasted no time in dismissing her.
She glared at her elder sister before making her way to the door. "Don’t be late for the second meal," she said as she slipped out.
Sabrina let out a loud groan. "She didn’t return the items as she said she would. Sorry about the interruption, though excuse my sister’s behavior. She can be a little inconsiderate most times."
"It’s fine. I am sure it must have been a bit of a shock to see me in your room," Mauve said.
"Maybe, but it doesn’t excuse her behavior."
Mauve simply nodded, "It is almost time for the second meal. I think I should go."
"What?" Sabrina asked in horror. "But you just got her. We haven’t even had the time to discuss anything, not to mention my sister’s interruption."
"We can talk another time," she smiled politely. "I need to find Jael so we can go together."
"The Prinus?" Sabrina asked.
"Uh-huh," Mauve said as she tried not to look confused at Sabrina’s name. She was sure Sabrina knew Jael’s name.
Mauve started to rise to her feet but Sabrina stopped her. She couldn’t help her shock as she dropped back to the bed.
"I heard you had to leave the castle. Something about the Primus chasing you," Sabrina whispered.
Mauve blinked, she knew rumors traveled fast and far amongst vampires but she must have underestimated just how fast. Besides, she thought vampires wouldn’t concern themselves with her business.
"That is correct." Maybe it wasn’t exactly correct but she was chased off.
"When I heard you were back, you have no idea how happy and glad I was."
Mauve stared at Sabrina’s face and she could see how genuine the look on her face was. She closed the gap between them and wrapped her arms around Mauve.
"I am really glad you’re back," she repeated.
"Thank you," Mauve smiled, hugging her back.
A loud knock caused them to jump apart and Sabrina laughed and Mauve immediately followed, holding her stomach as she laughed.
After a few seconds, they both recovered and Sabrina stood to her feet and walked to the door to check who was at the door.
She pulled the door open and Mauve didn’t miss the gasp that escaped her lips. "Sire," she said, bowing her head immediately.
"Jael," Mauve blurted and jumped off Sabrina’s bed. "What are you doing here?"
He looked past Sabrina and his gaze stopped when it landed on Mauve. "Mill told me you were here."
Mauve rushed to the door, "You didn’t have to come all the way here. I was just about to leave," she replied.
"Hmm, were you?" He asked as she got closer.
"Of course." She stopped in front of him right next to Sabrina.
"Then, shall we? I suppose you’re done here." For the first time since the door opened, he looked in Sabrina’s direction.
"Yes, Sire," Sabrina nodded vigorously. "She is done here. She was truly about to leave, she stayed behind because of me."
"I see," Jael said. "Welcome, Lady Sabrina."
Sabrina’s face brightened immediately. "Thank you so much, Sire," she said with glee. "And you didn’t need to worry about Mauve, she was in safe hands. Although I wholly apologize for delaying her."
Mauve watched Sabrina ramble to Jael while Jael just stared at her with an unreadable expression.
"I see," he repeated and looked away from Sabrina. He stretched out his hand to Mauve and she took it.
"See you at the meal," she waved to Sabrina as Jael pulled her away.
Sabrina waved back and Mauve smiled brightly. She walked out of the room and the door closed behind her.
"What were you doing there?" He asked. Neither his voice nor his expression gave away what he was feeling.
"Well, she asked for me and I wanted to say hi," Mauve replied.
"Okay," he said, still looking ahead as he led her away.
"Do you have a problem with that?" Mauve asked when didn’t say anything more."
"Why?" He glanced down at her.
"I can’t tell if you’re angry about it or not so I am assuming you are."
"You shouldn’t assume," he said sternly. "If I had any issues with it, I would have told you. I can tell you like her company. I am not going to tell you to stop talking to her if that’s what you think this is. I am just slightly ticked off that I had to come get you," he replied.
His eyes met her briefly before looking away.
"I won’t be late next time," she whispered.
He chuckled, "Would you know it sounds like you committed a grave offense? Besides, I am not complaining, you just looked like you didn’t want to leave."
"That’s not true," Mauve whispered and Jael looked down at her.
"I believe you," he smirked.
"Wait a minute! Were you even ticked off at all?" She asked in horror.
"Of course not. I just like the fuss you make over me when you can’t tell if I am annoyed or not." The smile on his lips was as clear as day.
"Jael," she cried and smacked him. He chuckled.
