The Vampire King's Possession -
Chapter 510. Sickening
Chapter 510: 510. Sickening
"I apologize for my late appearance but I only just arrived at the castle. I do hope provisions were made for me to have a meal at the table," Lord Seraphino judiciously announced as he walked in.
Vae walked close to him. She looked exhausted but somehow she was keeping up with the vampire and Mauve knew it was because if Vae didn’t Seraphino would pull on the rope.
Vae was still dressed in the same clothes she had walked through the front doors of the castle. Seraphino seemed to have changed.
The marks the rope left around her neck were bright red and Mauve was sure they were sore and needed treatment.
She bit the inside of her cheeks to stop herself from saying anything. She was amid vampires, it wasn’t hard to forget that.
If she did anything in an attempt to alleviate Vae’s situation, she knew she was likely to make it worse.
She wasn’t stupid, she could tell this wasn’t about Vae, Lord Seraphino was trying to get to Jael and he knew this was the right way to go about it.
"Sire," he bowed to Jael when he got close enough. Vae fell to her knees and bent her head.
"What is the meaning of this?" Erick asked.
"Erick?" Seraphino called out with feigned shock. "What are you talking about?"
"You know exactly what I am talking about."
"Oh, I didn’t understand it. What’s the meaning of what?"
"This," Erick said in horror. "Why are you with a human?"
"Don’t act so surprised, the Primus has one, there is no rule that says I can’t."
"Sit Erick," Jael replied.
"Thank you, Sire." Seraphino grinned, "I knew you would understand." He pulled on the rope, lifting Vae off the floor.
Mauve bent her head, helplessness wasn’t a good feeling. She wished Jael hadn’t stopped Erick and for the first time ever, she was glad the vampire had a loud mouth.
However, she could tell Seraphino would have turned in on her. In the eyes of vampires, all humans were the same, princess or not. A fake princess like her didn’t stand a chance.
If Jael’s human could eat in the dining hall, there was no way he could stop Seraphino from pulling Vae here. Mauve winced at the way she referred to herself.
She ground her teeth as the whispers increased. She noticed Louis’ gaze on her and she met it.
His inquiring stare made her want to cry. She looked away from him and back to Vae who was seated on the floor right next to the seat Seraphino had chosen.
The servants moved quickly and served him, putting out his meal. They made to do the same to Vae but he stopped them.
Mauve frowned, why would he bring her here if he had no plans to feed her?
Mauve was still pondering on Lord Seraphino’s strange action when she saw him pick food off his plate and drop it on the ground.
Mauve held her gasp in. Did he truly expect her to eat it off the ground?
Mauve watched Vae hesitate for only a moment and then she picked up the crumbs and gobbled.
Vae kept her gaze down as she ate and Mauve could clearly see how she hated every minute of this.
Vae slowly raised her head to look in Mauve’s direction but she brought it down almost immediately.
She wiped her lips clean as she ate the last of the food poured on the ground. She kept her gaze down as she made herself smaller.
Lord Seraphino chuckled, his voice echoed in the large space.
Mauve found it odd that no other Lord was saying anything about it. In fact, Mauve would have sworn that some of them seemed to have a smug expression on their faces.
Mauve felt her stomach churn. She couldn’t eat the rest of her meal and she knew if she tried to force herself, she would throw up all over the table.
"Are you okay?" Jael asked, looking at her.
She shook her head as she bit the inside of her cheeks. Crying wouldn’t help her but she knew she couldn’t watch another minute of this.
Jael stood up immediately. Mauve’s eyes widened as she looked up at him wondering what he was doing.
He stretched out his hand to her and she accepted it. He pulled her up to her feet.
"I shall be retiring early tonight, the servants will attend to your needs."
Jael didn’t wait for a reply before he led Mauve out of the dining hall. She could tell by the commotion behind her that the Lords weren’t very pleased.
However, she was glad Jael had taken her out of there.
"How do you feel?" He asked, as the door closed behind them.
"Better," she returned. "Thank you. I thought I was going to throw up." She leaned on him as she spoke, still feeling sick.
"I was afraid of that. I am sorry you had to see that."
"Don’t apologize to me, it’s Vae we should be worried about." As she spoke, she looked back to the closed door.
She hoped Lord Seraphino wasn’t doing worse things to Vae. She wondered how long the young woman had been in his clutches. She wondered just how much she had had to bear.
Vae looked like a shadow of herself. She looked shrunken, sad, and most of all tired. There was no life in her eyes. Mauve was worried.
"What can we do?" She asked Jael. "We need to do something fast. We can’t let her stay with him any longer. At this rate, she’ll die."
"I won’t let that happen," Jael said and pulled her to himself. "I want you to know I’ll do everything in my power to make sure Vae gets away from him."
He pulled her into a hug and she nodded into his chest. She sniffed, she had failed at holding back her tears.
"Let’s get you to your room and you can get some sleep. We will talk about this in the morning."
