The Vampire King's Possession
Chapter 484. Careful

Chapter 484: 484. Careful

"That’s why I am trying to be as expressive as I can, I don’t want you to misunderstand what I mean."

"Oh," Mauve replied and nodded. She appreciated the effort but it also made her feel as though she wasn’t doing anything.

Jael has done so much for her in such a short time but she hasn’t done a single thing. It made her feel a little bit small.

"What are you thinking about now?" He asked with a piercing gaze.

She frowned, annoyed at how easily he could read her mood and instantly tell when something was wrong. Maybe if she was a vampire she would be able to read his mood as easily as he could read hers

"Nothing," she said and walked toward the bench.

"Mauve," he coaxed gently. "What did I just say about being expressive?" He asked and followed after her.

"Well, I am already an open book. If I tell you everything there would be nothing left for me. Sometimes I like to keep you guessing."

He smirked and sat next to you, "Look at you being a tease."

"Don’t look at me like that," she muttered and folded her arms.

"I can’t help it," he replied and arched his head to the side. "I want to look at you every time."

"Don’t say things like that so easily." She looked away from him.

The night breeze wasn’t too strong tonight but it was still enough for her to feel the cold. The temperature was dropping and fast too. Soon enough she wouldn’t be able to step out without thick clothing.

"The stars are pretty," Jael suddenly said.

Mauve turned to look at him with a shocked expression.

"What?" He asked.

"I wouldn’t have taken you for someone who cared about stars."

"It’s a pity," he replied, looking away from that.

"What is?"

"I thought you at least knew me to that extent. I do know how to appreciate beauty."

Mauve was forced to look away from him. The look in his eyes was enough to set off the butterflies in her stomach.

She glanced at him again. Why did he have to be so handsome? It almost tripled since he grew out his hair.

"What are you thinking?" He asked with one raised brow.

"I was thinking that you look really good with your hair grown out. You were already handsome and now you’re even more so."

Jael palmed his face, "It’s annoying you know. One minute you’re bashful and another minute you say stuff like this."

"You’re the one who said I should be more expressive."

"I am not complaining," he grinned, his right hand moved and rested on the headrest right behind her neck. "I am just saying it catches me off guard."

"Okay," Mauve said, trying to not react to his hand behind her neck.

"It’s going to be pretty busy, you know," Jael suddenly said and as he spoke, he pulled her closer to himself.

Mauve rested her head on his shoulders and he stroked her hair. The moon was out tonight but it wasn’t enough for her to see his face.

"I know," she replied.

"I might not be able to spend as much time as I usually would with you," he continued.

"It’s no problem," she grinned looking up at him. "I can just drop by any time I want."

She wanted to say anytime she missed him but that would be too much even for her.

"You should, it doesn’t matter what’s happening you can always interrupt."

Mauve nodded even though she wasn’t sure about this. There was no way she would be able to interrupt if he was having an important meeting.

She could always wait but considering Jael has been quite adamant about this, she might end up doing this but she didn’t want to piss the other vampires off.

"I don’t think I should do that, I’ll just wait until you’re done," she whispered.

"Hmm, if you say so."

Mauve frowned. He didn’t have to sound so disappointed. She rolled her eyes at him before looking away.

"The castle would be filled again," he started to say. "The party is in about three weeks but knowing the Lords they would probably show up earlier than they need to."

"It’s fine," she whispered.

Her thoughts drifted, she would have to spend another couple of days enclosed in her room. She didn’t like the idea very much but she was sure she would survive.

"Are you sure?" He asked.

She nodded, "I am."

"I wouldn’t have done this if it wasn’t so important and considering the incident at Francine’s estate, I’ll have no choice but to give them some sort of distraction. The first night would most likely be a meeting with the party picking up the next night. I am sure a lot of Lords have a lot to say."

Jael instinctively ran his fingers through his tied hair, undoing some strands as he took a deep breath.

Why didn’t she see how stressed he was before? Right now, she could clearly see how the entire situation was affecting him.

She stretched out her hand before she could think about it and gently touched the side of his face. Jael grabbed her palm with his other hand and pressed it against his face.

"You don’t have to worry about me," she smiled up at him. "I will be fine and I will be very careful this time."

"That’s my line," he said, looking down at her. "I will be careful."

She nodded and leaned into him. At the end of the day, there was only so much he could do. She would have to play her part too.

She knew better than anyone how much the Vampires didn’t like her. She wouldn’t test the waters.

Still, there were a handful who didn’t hate her. She would take that. She wondered if she would see Sabrina and if things hadn’t changed.

"Would your aunt be around?" Mauve asked. Lady Marceline has suddenly popped into her head.

"She’s not my aunt but yes. Why?" He asked with a frown.

"No reason," she smiled at him. "I was just curious."

"Hmm but if you say so."
