Chapter 483. Expressive

Chapter 483: 483. Expressive

"Can we continue this another time?" Louis suddenly asked.

"No, it’s usually hard to get you alone these days and you still haven’t explained..."

The rest of her words drowned out as the door was thrown open and Jael strutted into the library. The space was huge but somehow he dominated it and had her full attention the instant he walked in.

"Jael," she called, already standing to her feet. "What are you doing here?"

He stared down Louis before his eyes came to rest on her. She could tell immediately that he knew something was up.

"Danag came to show me the plans and he informed me you were here. Since I am practically done with my work, I decided to drop in and say hi, it looks like I might have picked the wrong time."

"Actually no," Louis said. "You picked the perfect time. I shall take my leave then."

"Louis," Mauve called and he simply smiled at her before making his way to the door and walking out of it.

"I take it that something happened," Jael said as he stopped in front of her.

"Well, yes," she replied and rubbed her arms as she hugged herself.

"Okay, I am listening." He touched her hair and Mauve leaned into his hand.

"I don’t think I can tell you," she whispered.

Jael didn’t hide his displeasure fast enough. "Why?" He asked.

"Don’t take it that way," she whispered and fell onto his chest. "It’s about Mill and I already feel like I have broken one rule by telling you. I doubt Mill would be pleased."

"Oh," Jael said.

She pulled away from him and looked at his face, "Don’t say oh, like you couldn’t care less."

"Truthfully, I couldn’t. I only care about matters that concern you." He grinned.

"Don’t sound so proud about that." She pouted. "It’s Mill we are talking about."

"I care about you, is that a problem?"

"Of course not, if you only care about me that’s when there is a problem." She brought her hands together as he spoke.

"Hmm, you don’t hear me complaining that you worry about other people more than me so I don’t think you should complain about this."

"That’s not true," she replied.

"Are you saying you care about me more than anyone else?" He closed the gap between them forcing Mauve to lean on him if she wanted to look at his face.

"Of course," she replied. "I thought that was pretty obvious."

Mauve almost smacked herself across the cheeks. Why was she blushing? She should be angry that he was dismissive about Mill’s situation.

"Hmm, okay. Well, since you’re not going to tell me what the issue is with Mill. Would you tell me why you looked so concerned when Louis was leaving?"

Mauve looked up at him. Was it that obvious? She could tell him that much. She didn’t have to tell him what the original issue was and Jael looked very curious. Was it because she looked bothered?

"Would you stop staring at me like that?" He said and ruffled her hair.

"Arghh, Jael. You know sometimes, I think you treat me like a child."

"I assure you, I treat no child like this." He proceeded to close the gap between them and kissed her soundly on the mouth.

Mauve’s eyes widened before she slowly melted into his arms. He pulled away, leaving her breathless.

"So, is that enough to tell you, I do not think of you as a child. Though I would have thought that was already obvious."

"Whatever," she said and walked past him.

He chuckled and grabbed her wrist, pulling her back as he stopped her movements. Mauve was embarrassed and didn’t know how to respond to this. Running away was the only answer she had.

"We are not done talking," he replied and brought the palm he was holding to his lip.

There was no doubt about it, Jael absolutely enjoyed seeing her getting flustered. You’d think after all this time she would be used to his antics but each one of them still had the same effect.

She pulled her hand from his grasp and she would have sworn he pouted but she wasn’t sure. She sighed as she rubbed the back of her palm where his kiss left a tingling feeling.

"I am worried Louis might do what he’s not supposed to do because of me."

"What?" He asked.

"I told him about what happened to Mill and he seemed very angry. I worried things might blow out of proportion."

Jael groaned, "If you have time to worry about unnecessary things, think about me instead. Louis is always logical even when he doesn’t have to be. You don’t have to worry about his emotions taking control and him doing something stupid except he wants to piss me off... What?" Jael yelled when he noticed her looking up at him with wide eyes.

"I think this is the first time you have ever said anything good about Louis. You always sound like you hate his guts."

"And I do," he replied.

"Not the way I see it," she said with a grin.

"You only see the things you want to see," he smiled at her. "Now enough about Louis. I didn’t come to see you to hear you yap about another man."

Mauve glared at him, he was the reason they were still on the topic. However, she was glad he had wanted to know what was bothering her.

"How did your meeting go?" She asked. "I saw Danag and he didn’t look very good. I am sure he was..."

Mauve words dried in her throat as Jael’s gaze darkened. "What did I say about another man?" He asked.

"Sorry," she whispered. She had truly wanted to change the subject and had ended up talking about Danag before she realized it.

"Don’t say it like that. I am not angry, I am just slightly irritated. Here I am wanting to spend some time with you and all you talk about is everything but me."

"I am talking about..."

"Come with me," he said and pulled on her wrist before she could finish speaking.

"Where are we going?" She asked in horror.

"You’ll see," he replied and led her out of the library to the stairs.

Mauve had no choice but to follow after him. His death grip on her wrist was close to hurting.

"Are you out of breath?" He asked as they got to the bottom of the stairs.

She glared at him, "And whose fault is that?"

"I can carry you," he offered.

"Thank you but I’d rather use my legs."

"You’re no fun," he said and turned away but this time around he slowed his pace down.

"Whatever. Where are we going?"

"Impatient much?"

"We both know you are impatient enough for the both of us."

"Well, you’re right."

"Wow look at you, admitting to your flaws." She chuckled.

Jael stopped in the middle of the stairs and closed the gap between them. "Do you hate that I get impatient sometimes?"

She leaned backward and Jael put his hand behind her waist to stop her from falling. His blue gaze held her brown ones.

"Sometimes?" She asked with a raised brow. "Don’t you mean every time?"

"That’s a stretch, Mauve," he replied. "Even you know that."

He pulled back but his grip on her waist didn’t move. Instead, he led her the rest of the way with his hands on her waist.

They got to the stairs leading to her garden and Mauve would be lying if she said she was surprised. However, she couldn’t help but wonder what had gotten into him to lead her here.

The familiar creak as the door was pulled open was starting to feel nostalgic. Maybe it was because she had thought she would never see it again when she left.

"You could have just told me you were bringing me here," she whispered.

"What and ruin the surprise?" He asked as he followed after her.

"It’s not a surprise if it’s my garden."

His eyes sparkled at the end of her words.

"What?" She asked in horror.

"Nothing," he said.

"Are you here to look at the flowers? Though obviously, they are out of the blooming sea..."

"No," he said. "I just wanted to spend time with you somewhere you liked."

Mauve’s eyes widened, she was used to him saying sultry things but cheesy was going to need a lot of getting used to.

"And you chose here?" She asked, looking away from him.

"Of course, I know how much you love the garden. Besides, I would be lying if I said I can’t see how much work you put into it."

She nodded and hugged herself, "Thank you," she said.

"For what?" He asked as he closed the gap.

"You know," she said.

"Actually, I don’t. If you don’t say it, I won’t know what you mean. Same thing with me. That’s why I am trying to be as expressive as I can."
