The Vampire King's Possession
Chapter 474. No

Chapter 474: 474. No

Mauve sat on the bed in her nightdress. The bed was huge and with only her on it, it made this fact quite obvious. She winced at the thought that Jael was still not back.

She knew she wasn’t going to get much sleep or any sleep at all. She wanted to stand outside to wait for him but that would only make her anxious.

Here, she could at least pretend he was right out but couldn’t come in because he was discussing with other vampires.

In thirty minutes, the sun would be high up in the sky and there was no way Jael would be able to make it to her. She should roll back and sleep but she was willing to hold out hope. After all, what else could she do?

She looked around the huge space in an attempt to figure out what she could do to keep her mind occupied while she waited.

There was nothing, more like there was nothing she wanted to do. She groaned and adjusted so she was lying on the bed.

If Jael was here, she would surely find out. Constantly checking the door and jerking at every sound wasn’t going to help her.

She had spent the majority of her day in the room. She had run into Louis a few times but he was never alone. Which meant she hadn’t been able to discuss that topic with him.

Aside from him not wanting her to talk about it, he was also going to great lengths to avoid the question but with everything that has been happening, it was kind of hard to get him alone.

Now that Jael and his personal guards were gone, she figured Louis would be in charge of whatever was going on in the castle which meant he was definitely busy.

She rolled on her back and stared at the ceiling. Mauve sat upright again. She was tired of shuffling from one thought and position to another.

She got out of bed, walked through the side, and stopped in front of the huge windows closest to the bed. The curtains were tightly closed, shutting off all the light that could penetrate the room.

She opened it a bit to peek and was met with the start of dawn. The horizon was starting to gain color and the darkness of the sky started to lighten.

The moon and stars were completely gone. Mauve winced. She could see the trees from this height. Jael was not coming home.

She swallowed and adjusted the curtains. The faster she tried to sleep the better for her. Hopefully, if she tried hard enough she would fall asleep.

"Why the long sigh?" A familiar voice asked.

Mauve gasped, letting go of the curtains, she spun around and almost tripped. "Jael," she cried and tried to rush to him. How did she not hear him come in? Was she that engrossed in her thoughts?

"No," he scolded.

She pulled back frightened. "What?" She asked, bringing her hands to her chest.

He was standing a few feet from the door. There was quite a distance between them. She couldn’t even see his face but he didn’t want her to come any closer.

"I smell like crap," he said. "I need a shower before you come even ten feet close to me."

"Oh," she responded, feeling relief. She had feared the worst. "I am sure I won’t mind the smell." She was walking again before she realized it.

"Don’t be stubborn, Mauve. The servants would be here with my bath water soon. Be patient."

"No!" She cried.

Her lower lips sticking out. "It’s just a little smell, I am sure I can handle it."

Her chest felt tight, she wanted to run across the room and into his arms. She had been worried sick, had tried to not be worried sick which had even stressed her more.

Now, he was here and she couldn’t even get any closer. It felt very unfair. No one told her anything. If he hadn’t shown up now she would have probably had to wait until sunset again.

"Don’t cry," he said. His voice softened and Mauve could tell he was staring hard at her.

"I am not crying," she yelled but still wiped her face.

"I am sorry, I left without any explanation. I am sure you must have been very confused but I am back now so you have nothing to worry about."

"But you don’t want me to get any closer," she cried.

"Yes, for your safety."

"It is just a little smell, it can’t harm me. I just want a hug," she said. "Nothing more or at least close enough to see your face."

Why was she being so dramatic? She asked herself as she wiped the tears off her face. He was back that should be good enough right? Jael wouldn’t tell her to stay away without a good reason.

"I will give you all the hugs and kisses you want in a moment but for now I need you to wait on the bed for me. I should have cleaned up before coming here but I wanted to see you as soon as I got here. So would you hold out for a few minutes?"

Mauve nodded, still wiping her tears. She gathered her nightdress in her hand as she climbed the bed. She got under the sheets and made herself comfortable.

"Good girl," Jael praised and she blushed.

"Don’t say it like that!" She yelled out in horror.

"Have I ever told you I really like it when you obey my orders?"

"What?" Her face got even redder. "What does that have to do with anything?"

"You’ll find out in a few minutes." Even though she couldn’t see his face, she could tell he was smirking.

A knock resounded in the room before she could give her reply. Jael threw the door open and two servants walked in.

"No, here is fine," he said when they wanted to walk further into the room.

Mauve’s eyes widened; she couldn’t believe he was willing to bathe near the door just so she wouldn’t smell him.

She was annoyed that he didn’t want to tell her but he was already stressed, she didn’t want to stress him anymore. She figured she would just ask all her questions when he got into the bed.
