The Vampire King's Possession
Chapter 473. Squiggly Lines

Chapter 473: 473. Squiggly Lines

Mauve moved her eyes across the paper as she looked at Louis’ work of art. It was so unbelievable she didn’t know how to react.

Aside from the castle and fountain, he had also drawn trees. They were squiggly lines with squiggly branches. It was so astonishing, she could even make a joke about it.

For the path, he drew curved parallel lines and dots in the middle. For the bush, long strokes and she assumed the short strokes were the lawn.

It was hard to look at, not to mention exceedingly chaotic. The drawing was so bad, it looked like he had closed his eyes throughout.

"What do you think?" He asked.

Mauve blinked and forced herself to look away from the paper. She couldn’t believe he had proudly talked about this, it was so bad she felt sorry for him.

She turned to look at Mil and there was no expression on her face. She just blankly stared at the paper.

"This is what you intend to give to Danag?" She asked, watching his expression.

He nodded, "This highlights the position of where everything is supposed to be, doesn’t it?"

Mauve couldn’t argue. Aside from the ug—bad drawing, it was pretty accurate, there wasn’t one thing out of place. He had even included the stable and the farmhouse.

"It does," she replied with a deep breath.

She looked at Mill again and the vampire wouldn’t look in her direction. There was no way she would expect Mill to say anything about this.

Mauve looked back at Louis’ serious face, it would have been easier if he could draw well. She would have been able to make fun of it but the fact that it was bad and he didn’t think so made it hard.

"Louis," she started softly. "When you mentioned that you were going to sketch out the plans this was not what we had in mind." Mauve could see Mill’s eyes widened slightly.

"What do you mean?" He asked innocently. "What’s wrong with it? You can clearly see the plans." He pointed to the drawings and Mauve forced herself to shut up. "Or did I miss anything?"

"No, you didn’t," she said softly. "That’s not the issue here. Everything is correct. It’s the drawing itself that’s the problem."

"Oh, is it because I didn’t use colors? I can always do that but I don’t see how it would make much difference."

Mauve’s mouth fell open slightly and she would have sworn she heard Mill snicker. She was fighting to keep a straight face.

"It wouldn’t, color couldn’t save this." Mauve winced as her true thoughts escaped her lips, in an attempt to fix it she quickly added, "It would be best to give Danag the written plan. I do think he should have no problem understanding what you..."

Louis snickered and Mauve blinked. Her expression darkened as she slowly watched Louis’ snickering change to a peal of full-blown laughter.

He grabbed his stomach as he crackled. The loud sounds echoed in the room. Mauve had to keep still to stop from lunging at him and pulling out his blonde hair.

"What’s so funny?" She said after he stopped laughing.

"That’s not the sketch."

"I think we both know this now," she replied with an unimpressed look on her face.

"I can’t believe you believed it!" He laughed hard again. "Do you have any idea how hard it was for me to keep up the act?"

"Whatever," Mauve replied nonchalantly. She was very annoyed.

"I can’t believe you fell for it. It was so watching you be careful with your words." He laughed even harder.

Mauve heard something snap in her head, the sound was so loud, that she was worried she would lose her hearing. She didn’t think she moved.

She picked up the paper and gave it an odd stare before putting the end towards the candle. The paper lit up immediately, the smell of burning hard to ignore.

"Mauve!" Louis yelled. He pulled the paper from her grasp and tossed it to the ground. He stomped on it to put out the fire.

"What are you doing?" Louis asked in horror after putting out the fire.

"You’re lucky I only set that on fire," she said to him.

"Violence is never the answer, Mauve."

She gave him an unimpressed look. "We don’t have time and you do this."

He was still snickering before she spoke and then his tone turned serious.

"Why do you sound so angry? Oh, you can’t believe you fell for something like that huh?" Louis crackled. "It was so funny watching you try to be polite at the heinous drawing."

He crackled again. Mauve didn’t like how right he was. She wasn’t that angry, her pride just took a hit. She was more annoyed that she didn’t wreck his drawing.

There was a library of things she could have said about it but she held her tongue and now here he was mocking her about it.

"It’s my fault. For once I tried to be nice to you. Never again."

"So you admit you’re never nice to me," he grinned.

She glared at him, "If you don’t have anything more to say, I am going to my room. You can give Danag what you’ve written, you don’t need me for that. This has been a complete waste of time."

Mauve stood to her feet, she glanced at Mill who was pretty quiet. She didn’t seem annoyed but she didn’t seem amused either.

"Wait, don’t go," Louis cried. As he spoke he pulled open the drawer on the desk and pulled out another paper.

"Nope!" Mauve said, strutting to the door. "Knowing you, it will probably be another gibberish drawing.

"I promise it’s not. If it isn’t then just give it to Danag," she said without slowing down.

"Don’t tell me you’re leaving Mill," Louis cried.

"I am afraid, I have to Lord Louis. I can’t let Mauve go to her room all by herself." She bowed and rushed after Mauve.

Mill closed the door as they both stepped out of it.

"You didn’t have to follow me," Mauve said.

"You know that’s not true." Mill walked side by side with her.

"Sorry for leaving so abruptly and making you leave too."

"It’s not a problem. Are you that angry?" Mill gave her a concerned look as their eyes met.

"Actually, no. I just didn’t want to give him the satisfaction. The map is mostly well done. The first one was good to give an idea, if he was messing around there I am sure the next sketch is perfect. It does explain why he took a little bit too long. The original was already in the library. I bet he sketched the fake one before coming in."

"Yeah, but I don’t get it. Why would he do all that?" She asked with a frown.

Mauve bent her head forward as she laughed. "I told you, you’re taking him too seriously. He’s like that. He wanted to get on my nerves. He doesn’t mean any harm but he is annoying."

"It was funny though, I would give him that," Mill said as they got to the end of the stairs.

"And his serious expression throughout the entire exchange that’s why I didn’t think he was messing around." Mauve laughed.

"At some point, I couldn’t hold it in any longer," Mill giggled.

"Yeah, I heard you laugh. I think that made him break character."

"I am surprised you didn’t laugh," Mill said as they got to the front of her room.

"I assure you I was trying my hardest not to. It looked like it was something sacred. I regret not laughing now."

Mill giggled and pushed open the door. "After you."

"Yeah," Mauve said and walked in. "I think you should go back."

"What? Why?" Mill frowned.

"At least one of us should look at the sketch. I am sure it would be good but I think you should look at it. I won’t leave my room until the second meal and I’ll lock the door. You don’t have to worry."

"Are you sure?" Mill asked, staring hard at Mauve’s face.

She knew the vampire was just checking if something was amiss but Mauve just wanted to spend a few moments to herself.

"Very," she smiled.

"Okay," Mill said. "Lock the door immediately, I want to hear it."

"Yes, Ma’am."

She closed the door and turned the lock in place. She rested her back on it and sighed.

She knew Louis had done that for her sake, he was probably trying to cheer her up from all the incidents. Either that or she was giving him the benefit of the doubt.

However, it was still not enough to push her worries away. Somehow she couldn’t shake off the weird feeling she had.

She hoped it was just her overactive mind going into overdrive and nothing else. Mauve threw herself on the bed as she tried to stop her mind from going rampant.
