The Vampire King's Possession -
Chapter 467. Love Marks
Chapter 467: 467. Love Marks
Mauve found herself leaning onto Jael as they walked into the dining hall. She wondered if it was because of the scarf on her neck but she was extra self-conscious today.
His palm around hers squeezed lightly and Mauve briefly forgot her fears. She looked up at him and found herself smiling.
He led her to her seat while the vampires said their greetings. He pulled back her seat and made sure she was comfortably seated before he moved to his.
"You’re awfully early," Louis said sarcastically. "Did something happen?"
Maybe it was the way Louis wiggled his brows or it was the knowing look in his eyes but Mauve’s head turned to a very ripe tomato.
She buried her face in the bundle of the scarf. She was glad it was big enough to hide her face in it. This was what she was afraid of. She was already an open book and now there was more than enough proof on her neck.
"What’s with the scarf?" He asked as she brought his attention to it by hiding her face in it.
"Do you not have anything better to do than to pester her?" Jael asked him.
Louis raised his hands as he dropped to his seat. "I was merely curious."
The meal commenced as soon as they were all seated and Mauve immediately noticed someone was missing.
Corbin wasn’t seated next to Otis. She wondered if his absence had anything to do with what he wanted to talk to Jael about.
She wasn’t the least bit curious and had no plans to ask about it. She pushed the thoughts of other people out of her mind and concentrated on her meal.
She would often catch Jael staring at her and of course, he wouldn’t look away when she glared at him.
However, she couldn’t help but think there was a serious air around him as he stared at her. He wasn’t trying to mess with her as he usually would.
It made her a bit uneasy but not in a bad way. It was a strange feeling and she didn’t know how to explain it.
"Sire," A voice said halfway through the meal.
Of course, it was Otis. Mauve didn’t bother looking at the vampire, rather she turned her attention to Jael but he seemed unfazed and didn’t even look in Otis’ direction.
"Yes," he responded coldly.
"I’d like permission to patrol tonight. I am a bit antsy from not doing anything for more than three days now. I am guessing we will still be on a break from going after Palers for a while but I’d like to just look around the fence."
"Do whatever you want," Jael responded. From his expression, Mauve could tell he couldn’t believe Otis was asking him something like that.
"Here," Jael said to Mauve. He was stretching out a piece of his food on a fork to her.
Mauve’s eyes widened as she realized what he wanted her to do. She blinked, what was he doing?
"Go on, eat it."
She squinted her eyes, there was no way she could say no now. "Okay," she replied and stretched her head forward.
Their eyes met as she accepted his offer. He pulled the fork away and resumed eating like he didn’t just stop everyone from eating.
Mauve tried to return her attention to her food but she could forget about what he had done.
He was already standing by her side by the time she was done eating. She accepted his outstretched hand and followed him out of the dining hall.
"You’re going to the library, right?" He asked as they went out the doors.
She nodded, "Yeah. Louis will meet me there and when Mill comes around we’ll continue the discussion about what we’ll do about the castle."
"Alright," he said.
"Are you okay?" She asked, peering at his face.
"What? Why?"
"I don’t know," she replied. "You seem somber."
"That’s an odd description. I wouldn’t exactly say I am bright as the morning star."
"Jael," she said. "I am serious. Did you not like that I made a fuss about the marks? It was a little too much, you can’t deny."
"True, I can’t deny but I do not feel sorry about them. I am just annoyed that you’d cover them up. I should have marked you in a place you couldn’t cover up, for all eyes to see."
"Jael," she said in horror. "I don’t want to walk around in obvious hickeys."
"Why?" He asked with a raised brow.
"It’s inappropriate," she said.
"To whom?"
"To the poor people who have to see it."
Jael closed the gap between them. "Are you saying my love marks on your body are inappropriate?"
"No, that’s not what I mean. I just get really embarrassed."
Jael smiled at her, "I am teasing. I have a lot of work to do but I hope I’ll see you later."
"Of course," Mauve said with a huge grin. "I will drop by."
He bent his head and kissed her in front of the library.
"Seriously? Get a room," a voice said. "Why do I always get a front-row seat to your romance?"
Mauve’s eyes immediately flew open at the sound of Louis’ voice but Jael held her in place and kissed her even harder before taking his time to pull away.
He touched her left cheek lightly, "I will see you later."
She nodded, looking up at him with a flustered expression. His eyes went over her face before he let go of her cheek and turned around.
Without saying a single word to Louis, Jael walked past him and headed straight for the stairway.
"Rude," Louis muttered but it was loud enough for Jael to hear.
Mauve chuckled, "You’re always trying to get on his bad side."
"That’s not true. I am actually being very friendly."
"No wonder you don’t have any friends."
Louis gasped, "I do."
"I am sure," Mauve replied, standing beside him as she waited for him to open the library doors.
"Just because I spend time with you, doesn’t mean I don’t have better things to do."
"I never said anything about that," she chuckled.
"You insinuated," he responded.
"You sound like someone trying to convince me you have better things to do when you really don’t."
