Chapter 466. The Scarf

Chapter 466: 466. The Scarf

Jael frowned as he walked into her room, "What’s with the scarf?" He asked.

Mauve stood from the dresser, her eyes staring daggers at him and without saying a word, she scoffed and walked toward him.

He stretched out his hand for her to take it but she glared at him and walked past him. He turned his gaze to Mill with a puzzled expression but Mill just kept her head bent as she bowed to him.

He blinked realizing that he had to rush out if he wanted to catch up with her. "What’s the matter?" He asked and grabbed her hand to stop her.

"Nothing," she said stubbornly and pulled her hand from his grasp. She continued, ignoring him as she walked towards the stairs with her nose in the air.

"What do you mean nothing?" He asked, catching up to her easily.

"Nothing means nothing," she said and started down the stairs.

He sighed, "What’s with the scarf? Your dress looks pretty without it."

She stopped in the middle of the stairs being one step in front of him and turned around so fast he was worried she would trip and fall. He instinctively reached for her but dropped his hand at her glare.

Her big brown eyes held nothing but anger in them. He could have sworn there was steam pouring out the top of her head.

Somehow he didn’t think she was angry at him. She was obviously mad but it didn’t seem like something he should be deeply concerned about.

More like he hoped so. They were fine before she left his room, very fine if she asked him. Jael shook away the picture of Mauve splayed on his bed with all of him deep in her.

He shuffled on his feet as he tried to redirect his train of thought but it was hard to do so when she was staring at him with puffy cheeks and angry eyes. She was so cute, he couldn’t help but be distracted.

It didn’t help that even though she was cute now, he knew she could be sexy and he had seen that version. Hell, it was burnt in his memory.

"No thanks to you!" She yelled out. This was the third time she was telling him this today but it didn’t have its usual teasing ring to it.

"Are you even listening to me?" She yelled when he didn’t say anything.

"Yes," he replied.

"I don’t understand. If I did something you don’t like, I’m sorry." He touched the side of her face, "I don’t want to fight."

He watched her face soften and he made sure to hold back his smile.

"You didn’t do anything bad," she responded and then looked away from him.

"Then what is the problem? I will fix it immediately."

She glared at him, "How will you fix this?"

She pulled on the scarf revealing marks he had left. They were red enough to draw attention to them.

Jael took a step down, standing on the same step as Mauve. His eyes didn’t leave her neck.

They were standing sideways, facing each other. Mauve’s confidence faltered and he could see her eyes look up at him in confusion.

Jael forced himself to relax his expression. There was no need to get angry. It made sense that she wouldn’t want to show this around.

He didn’t even realize he had left this many marks on her. However, a very huge part of him was very angry that she wanted to hide this.

He wanted every single person to see. He wanted them to know she was his and they should know their place.

Was this what it felt like to want to mark your mate? He wondered what Mauve would think about it. Would she want that? If marks that would fade quickly bothered her this much, what about if it was permanent?

"Jael," she called when he didn’t say anything.

He blinked, snapping out his thoughts, he wrapped the scarf around her neck. "I didn’t realize," he whispered. "Does it hurt?"

She slowly shook her head, "No, it doesn’t."

She spoke in soft tones, he knew she was trying to understand his reaction. He wanted to tell her how he felt at the same time he could tell he was too angry to make any sense.

"Do you hate them?" He asked.

She pouted and looked away, "Not really."

He leaned forward, "I’d still prefer you lose the scarf but I’ll be careful next time," he responded.

"Okay," she mumbled into the scarf.

He grabbed her arm and started for the stairs.

"Wait a minute," she said.

"What?"

She leaned in, peering into his eyes. "Where is the scarf I made for you?" She asked. "Don’t tell me you tossed it after I left."

A/N: Yes, I completely forgot about the scarf.

"Why would I do something like that?" He asked in horror.

"But you never wear it," she pouted. "What else am I supposed to think?"

"Because it’s too precious to wear around. A very important person made it for me."

Mauve blushed and looked away from him, "Is that so? Then where is it? It sure doesn’t look like you’re properly keeping it."

"Is that what you think?" He asked.

She nodded.

"That’s too bad. Considering I sleep with it every day."

"Huh?" She looked up at him.

He winked at her. "I will never toss out your gift, Mauve. I keep it closer to me than you think while also keeping it safe."

"Then where is it?" She asked.

"I am not telling," he smirked.

A/N: It’s under his pillow.

"Jael, come on."

"If you drag this any more, I doubt they would be able to wait for us any longer, and considering you hate getting to the dining hall late it’s funny you’re the reason we are going to be late."

"What? That’s a lie, it is your fault!"

She was already leading the way to the hall as she scolded him. Jael tightened his grip on her hand and walked faster to match her pace.
