The Vampire King's Possession -
Chapter 462. Prove
Chapter 462: 462. Prove
As Mauve sat for the last meal of the day, she wondered when she should bring up the topic with Jael. She was beating herself up for not bringing up when she saw him before the second meal and even on the way here.
Considering he has told her to be unfiltered around him, it wasn’t that easy. Somehow, she wasn’t able to find the right moment and she was a bit cautious about what Jael would say. He might scold her and refuse and she was terribly afraid of that.
"Are you good?" Jael’s words suddenly broke through her thoughts. "You haven’t touched your meal."
She blinked, she didn’t even realize she had been served. "Oh, I am. Got distracted." She picked up the cutlery and dug into her meal.
"Hmm," he replied and looked to his plate but Mauve could see he was still watching her from the corner of his eyes.
She made a mental note to concentrate on her meal. Since Jael was watching her so closely he was bound to know something was up.
"Sire," a voice said.
Mauve reacted in the same manner as Jael did, turning their gaze to the direction of the voice.
Her eyes met with Corbin who quickly looked away. He has been cautious around her since the encounter with Mill and Mauve couldn’t help but notice he was even more cautious.
"I was wondering if I could have a word with you at some later period."
Jael gave him an unimpressed look. "Take it up with Louis. He will deal with whatever your problem is."
Louis jerked his head in Jael’s direction. "I guess you’re just going to work me until I cave." When Jael didn’t reply he turned to Corbin. "I’ll help you in whatever way I can."
"Um, thank you," he replied. Though he didn’t look pleased about the arrangement, he didn’t argue. He glanced at Mauve again before returning his attention to his meal.
Soon enough she was done eating and Jael led her to his room. "Are you okay?" He asked when they were behind closed doors. "You seemed a little off during the last meal."
"I did?" She asked with a puzzled look on her face.
She was distracted during the beginning of the meal as she was concerned about what she had to ask Jael but after he drew her attention to it, she tried to concentrate on eating. Just how closely was he watching her?
"Uh-hmm," he said and closed the gap between them.
Mauve chest tightened as he entered her personal space. He looked down at her and she had to raise her head to meet his gaze.
"I am fine," she said as she met his eyes. Her throat was suddenly very dry. Was it because of the way he was looking at her?
"Are you sure?" He asked and lifted his palm, cupping her chin with it. "If there was something you didn’t like, you know I would have fixed it."
"I know," she smiled at him and wrapped her arm around his waist. She pulled closer to him and she would have sworn his eyes twinkled.
"Are you thinking what I am thinking?" He asked with a raised brow.
"What? No!" She laughed.
"Too late," he whispered and kissed her soundly while his fingers trailed the side of her face.
"Jael," she groaned into his lips but didn’t hesitate to kiss him back.
A knock interrupted their merry time and even she didn’t want to get the door. He cussed and pulled away from her as he gave the order for them to come in.
The door opened and Mack walked into the room with the bath water, a servant followed behind him with the tub.
They bowed to Jael and carefully placed the items in the corner before bowing once again and taking their leave.
"Let me help you out of your dress," Jael offered.
"Okay," she nodded and moved closer to him so he could get her out of her clothes.
After almost a full hour, they finally got into bed and under the covers because someone had gotten distracted.
Mauve placed her head on Jael’s bare chest. His cold skin felt nice against hers. She purred in satisfaction as she moved closer to him.
"What did you do today?" He asked as he rubbed her hair.
"Oh, it was pretty hectic, I had to review the plans we made to make sure nothing was out of place. Coming up with suggestions was also pretty hard. Louis wasn’t much help but Mill really helped a lot. I do think it would have been a better idea to put her in charge."
"If you say so, I still think you’d do a good job."
She looked up at him and quickly looked away while she mumbled her thanks.
"I am listening," he said when she went quiet.
"Huh?" She asked.
"I can tell something is on your mind. Surely, it can’t be that hard to ask me."
"It’s not hard, I am just... Fine," she sighed loudly. "I went around the castle compounds with Mill but it was too dark for me to see anything and considering you want me to decide how it would look, I can’t really do that if I don’t even know what it currently looks like."
Jael frowned as he proceeded with her words. "What are you trying to say?"
"You said before that I couldn’t go around because of wild animals but now that the fence is up I am sure it is pretty safe for me to walk around by myself." She rambled on, she could even look at him as she spoke.
"I want to ask you to let me inspect the castle walls myself, in the daytime." She announced.
Mauve let out a loud breath at the end of her sentence, her chest was heaving and her throat dry. She was truly scared of what Jael’s response would be.
Was it because of how adamant he has been towards certain subjects? But this was his idea, surely he wouldn’t decline even though he put her in charge.
He lifted her chin, forcing her to look at him. "Let me get this straight, you want to inspect the castle surroundings during the day, by yourself so you can decide what you’d want?" He asked.
She nodded, "That right? I can’t decide more if I don’t see..."
"Okay," Jael said, interrupting her.
"What?"
"I said okay," he said with a soft smile, taking pleasure in the shocked expression on her face.
"Are you sure you’re okay with it?"
He gave her an unimpressive look. "As much as I want to say, I am sure you should be able to see everything from the rooftop. I know you won’t be completely comfortable if I keep restricting your movements and I want you to know this is your home as much as it is mine."
Mauve felt her eyes water as she listened to Jael’s words. She could tell that he meant every word he was saying to her and she didn’t know how to react to this.
He didn’t have to go this far to prove that he wanted her in his life but she was glad he did.
"It is my duty to make sure you’re safe, I shouldn’t keep you locked up because I can’t protect you. Instead, I should build really strong fences and go after anything that tries to harm you."
He pinched the bridge of her nose and Mauve giggled.
"When do you want to go around the castle?" He asked.
"I was thinking this evening," she responded. "Just before nightfall."
"No," he said stubbornly and Mauve feared he was about to retract his promise. "The next sunrise is better."
"Oh," Mauve said. Her reply showed her surprise.
"It is better after sunrise. That way I am sure no Paler would be outside and just before sunrise I’ll ask the guards to go around and make sure no wild animal is lurking. Okay?"
Mauve nodded so hard, that her head spun. "Yes, yes. That’s perfect. Thank you so much," she cried and pulled upward so she could wrap her arm around him.
She rested her chin in the cradle of his neck as she pressed her body against him. She held onto him for a while as she said her thanks.
"If you hold on to me like that Mauve, you can’t blame me if I get ideas."
"Jael," she cried, and then pressing her mouth against his shoulder, she whispered, "I don’t mind if you get ideas."
Jael reacted immediately, flipping her so she had her back to the bed and he was on top of her. How did he move so fast?
His eyes were bright and she could see the aroused look in them. She blushed underneath him feeling more flustered than embarrassed.
"This was your idea," he smirked and covered her lips with his before she could protest.
He pressed his body against her without putting any weight on her and Mauve could feel how hard he was. His lust for her was something she would never tire of and she hoped it was the same for him.
