The Vampire King's Possession -
Chapter 461. Perfect
Chapter 461: 461. Perfect
"Mauve, are you okay?" Mill asked when Mauve didn’t raise her head from the desk even though Mauve was aware they had entered the library.
Mauve felt Mill’s palm on her shoulder but she still didn’t move. Mill shook her a little and she let out a sad sigh.
"Mill, help." She cried as she raised her head. She grabbed Mill’s arm and put her head on the front of Mill’s dress.
"Did something happen?" She asked as she patted Mauve’s head.
"Yes, something terrible. Jael put me in charge of designing the outside of the castle."
"Oh, yeah. I was informed," Mill said casually.
Mauve pulled her head from Mill’s dress. "You don’t sound stressed."
"Because I am sure you’ll come up with great ideas."
"That’s a terrible idea."
"Mauve, you don’t have to worry, I will help you every step of the way. We will," she said, glancing at Louis.
"Don’t look at me, I am just here to confirm you ladies get everything you want. If you need more help, I can definitely find some. Just don’t expect direct contributions from me."
"No, no, this is more than enough." Mill turned away from him quickly.
"Huh? No, it’s not. Basically, he is saying all he is going to do is stand and watch. That’s not very helpful." She glared at him.
Mill chuckled a little. "I suppose it isn’t but I am sure we can handle it and won’t need much of Lord Louis’..."
"Just Louis, Mill. It shouldn’t be so hard to call me that." As he spoke he took a step closer to her.
She looked like she wanted to step away but she couldn’t because Mauve was still holding onto her. She pulled her gaze away from him.
"I don’t think I can call you that Lord Louis."
Louis squinted his eyes. "Surely, it will make conversation much easier since we will be working together."
"I don’t think it makes the conversation any harder."
Mauve noticed Mill kept her gaze on her and didn’t look at Louis as she spoke. She could also feel how tensed up Mill was.
Mauve looked at Louis and she could clearly see that it slightly ticked him off that she wouldn’t stop addressing him by his title.
For some reason, she found the entire exchange amusing and she made sure not to interrupt and just kept staring from one of them to the other.
"If you say so then you should have no problems with me calling you Lady Mill."
Mill jerked her head in Louis’ direction. She had obviously not been expecting this and by the horrified expression on her face, she didn’t like this idea very much.
"Lord Louis, you couldn’t possibly do that."
"Why not Lady Mill?" He asked with what looked like a genuine puzzled expression. It took all Mauve’s willpower to not laugh out loud at this.
"I will try to call you without your title but please drop the honorific, it doesn’t suit me."
Louis frowned, "What do you mean? It is your title too."
Mauve watched Mill’s expression and could immediately tell Mill was thinking about her father. Mauve wondered if Mill also had similar feelings as she did.
She wondered if the fact that Mill wasn’t accepted by her birth father made her feel less about the title that was automatically handed to her at birth.
Mauve brushed these thoughts away. It was not her place to think such. Besides, no matter what Mill will always be a Lady to her.
"Fine, Mill," Louis said when she didn’t immediately respond.
She jerked her head at him and gave him a bright smile. Mauve watched Louis’ expression change and then he turned away.
"I will leave you ladies to it. I will be in the corner if you need me."
"Okay," Mauve responded and made space for Mill to sit next to her.
"Is there anything you want?" Mill asked.
"A fountain," Mauve said without hesitation. There was one in her father’s castle and it wasn’t like she wanted it to look exactly like it did but she was sure a fountain would look good.
"Good thinking," Mill praised. "I told you, you could do this."
"It’s just one idea. The castle’s compound is huge."
"Well, it’s definitely a start. Anything else?" Mill asked.
Mauve shook her head. It was hard to come up with ideas when she barely knew what the layout of the castle walls looked like.
"I would have to take a proper look," she whispered.
"Yes, absolutely. I and Louis will give you a tour."
"No," she shook her head. "I won’t be able to see it properly in the dark and I doubt standing at the top of the castle would be enough. I will have to walk around during the day."
Mill blinked as she realized the implication of Mauve’s words. "Are you sure? I could describe it to you and I will make sure to hold enough light."
"Just ask Jael," Louis’ voice broke in. "The fence is high and the sun will be out. I am sure it will be safe."
They both raised their heads to look at him. He was right, however, Mauve knew it wasn’t as easy as he was making it sound.
"I suppose I could do that," Mauve replied and looked away from him.
"We could come up with more ideas with the layout you’re familiar with," Mill said hurriedly. Mauve could tell she was trying to lighten the mood.
"Yeah, I suppose we could do that. A garden would be nice and since there are already growing trees, we could leave them as they are."
"Shouldn’t you jot all of these down?" Louis suggested.
"You could do that for us," Mauve suggested. "It’s not like you have anything better to do."
"Mauve, I am sure Lord Louis has more important matters. We don’t have to..."
"I will do it," he said with a glare directed at Mauve. "Just concentrate on what you have to do."
Mauve wasn’t trying to be rude but there was no way she could do it as her writing wasn’t the best and she didn’t know if Mill could write, it felt a bit rude to ask that’s why she had said what she said.
She was glad Louis didn’t disagree, she wondered if he figured out what she was trying to do or if he was just being nice.

"You don’t have to follow me," Mauve found herself yelling at Louis as they walked out of the library.
"Are you serious?" He asked with a puzzled expression. "I literally told Potatohead I would bring you myself. Do you want to give him a reason to kick me out of the castle?"
"But you don’t have to come with me, Mill is already going to escort me there."
"Except there is something you both want to discuss without me, there is no way I’ll leave you two alone."
"Yes," Mauve said stubbornly.
"Well, discuss it inside the library, I will wait outside."
"There is no need for that. Besides, don’t you have to go see Danag?" She asked.
There was no reason why he shouldn’t go with them but she did want to get rid of him. Besides, Mill seemed a little self-conscious in his presence and Mill offered to go with her to Jael’s study.
"I can see him after."
"Mauve," Mill called out. "I don’t have to go with you. Since Louis will take you there regardless, you can just go with him."
"No!" Mauve said adamantly.
"Then let’s all go together," Louis offered.
"No!" She yelled out again.
"Just what do you want?" Louis returned.
Mill chuckled and bowed her head to Louis. "Thank you for your help, Lord Louis. I will take my leave now, Mauve. I will see you later."
Mauve could visibly see him wince as she called him by his title. "The pleasure is all mine."
She grinned at Mauve and before Mauve could respond to her sentence she headed down the stairs.
"Do you have a problem with me being around Mill?" Louis asked as soon as Mill was out of earshot.
"Huh? What do you mean?" She asked.
"I don’t know. It just seems like if you could, you would separate us."
"What does that even mean?" She yelled.
"Nothing, maybe I am just reading too much into it. Forget I said anything."
"I don’t have a problem with you being around Mill, it just seems like she’s not very comfortable in your presence and I’m making sure she doesn’t have to deal with you unless she has to."
"Why do you make me sound like such a bad person?" He asked in horror.
"Because you can be."
"But I mean well for Mill. She’s nicer than you, I have no reason to be mean to her."
"Yeah, she is nicer than me which is exactly why you should stay away."
"You make it sound like I am trying to do something."
"Well, if you aren’t then you should have no problem staying away."
"I want her to be comfortable in my presence. I don’t see how staying away will help."
"I am not saying you should completely disappear, I am just saying since she seems a bit tense up with you around, I’ll try to not put you guys in the same space if I can."
"And I am telling you I don’t like that idea very much because I’d prefer she felt more comfortable in my presence."
"Maybe changing your attitude might help," Mauve said.
Louis grimaced, "That’s rich considering you’re married to my evil brother."
"Jael is not that bad."
"Liar! Call a spade a spade."
"Well, maybe he has some things he could work on but he does have a lot of redeeming qualities."
"And what would those things be?" Jael asked.
Mauve gasped and both of them simultaneously looked to the top of the stairs. Jael was standing a few feet away from them.
"What happened to not sneaking around?" Louis asked, sarcastically.
"You were taking so long that I had to come get her, myself." He looked away from Louis to Mauve.
Her breath caught in her throat. She wasn’t sure if he was angry or not. His eyes didn’t give anything away and neither did his expression.
"Jael," she called out after snapping out from the shock. She walked closer to him and stopped a few feet away.
"How are you?" He asked.
She nodded, "Good."
"How did the discussion go?"
"Well," she looked to her feet. "We were able to make headway.
"That’s good." He returned. "Are you done with the conversation here?"
Mauve nodded vigorously. "And since you’re here Louis don’t need to go with me anymore."
Which was the reason for the argument and Jael’s reaction. She wondered how much he heard and just how angry he was.
"Okay," he responded and stretched out his hand.
Mauve accepted it immediately, closing the gap between them. He turned around and led her down the stairs.
"Are you angry?" She asked when he didn’t say anything as they walked down.
"Why would I be angry?" He asked with a raised brow while looking at her face.
"You know," she said and looked away. "Because of what you heard."
"Well, it is annoying to find out that you don’t think I am perfect. The fact that you think I have a lot of redeeming qualities is good enough for me."
"Really?" She asked.
"Of course. Now, except you meant it in a bad way, you didn’t say anything wrong. Sometimes I want to hear what you think about me, unfiltered. I am more annoyed by the fact that you have no problem arguing with Louis."
"There is no way I’d argue with you," she grinned looking up at him with bright eyes.
He looked away, wincing as though she had blinded him. "You get what I mean. You tell him what you think without mincing words. I’d prefer if you were that comfortable with me."
"Oh, I am very comfortable with you. I know sometimes you’re a bit intense and adamant about what you want but it’s not in a bad way," she responded.
"Still, I will try to work on what you’d want me to change." He winked at her.
Mauve blushed and looked away, "I don’t think I want you to change anything. To me, you’re perfect. Annoying, yes, but it doesn’t take away from that."
Jael blinked as he looked at her and she could tell, he didn’t know how to respond. He used his palm to cover his face. "We should go eat."
Mauve chuckled under her breath and leaned into him. "Of course."
