The Vampire King's Possession
Chapter 443. Returning the Favor

Chapter 443: 443. Returning the Favor

What was she doing? Mauve asked herself as she stood beside Louis who was giving her a confused look.

This was none of her business she knew but overhearing their conversation she couldn’t help but get out of the room. She hadn’t intended to butt in but when Louis spotted her, she just couldn’t stop the words from pouring out of her lips.

"You heard me." She heard herself say. Mauve almost smacked herself. Why was she provoking him?

"Yeah, and I am wondering if you have been paying attention to what’s going on."

"I have. You said it yourself. It’s your fault. Doesn’t that mean you should try harder and not give up? Jael has every reason to be angry. You were away for so long."

"I thought you were on my side."

"I am that’s why I am here right now. I don’t want you to leave. I don’t know many of Jael’s family except Lady Marceline."

Louis raised a brow, "You met her?" He asked with surprise.

"Yeah."

"What did you think about?" He asked.

"She seemed nice."

"Nice," he laughed.

"She isn’t?"

"Well, it depends on how you look at it. What did she say about you?"

"Nothing much, nothing bad."

"I’m sure. She probably thought you were adorable. I am glad you met her. I should probably try to see her before I leave."

"You’re still leaving?" She asked with a glare.

"Unfortunately, Mauve. I have to."

"Please," she said.

She knew exactly why she was adamant. Jael didn’t have a lot of vampire Lords on his side and now that he wasn’t hiding his affection for her things were likely to get out of hand. She didn’t want him to lose any of the good ones, especially one who was literally family.

"Aren’t you persistent? You have no reason to be. Besides, it will be one less vampire in your face."

"On the contrary, I do. Consider it returning the favor"

"Favor? What do you mean? I don’t think you owe me anything." Louis gave her an odd look.

"I don’t know but for some reason, I can’t help but think you have a hand in while I am here right now."

"No, I didn’t. You’re only here because Jael wanted you back."

"I am sure," she replied. "But at least let me help."

"Help? How are you going to do that? As we have both found out, talking to Jael is like talking to a wall. Even for you, I doubt he will be so lenient."

"Would you let me at least try?" She asked.

"I’d rather you didn’t put in any effort than have your effort wasted. It’s not worth it. I am not worth it," he gave her a sad smile.

"Don’t say that. I don’t know what transpired between you two and I truly want to know but for some reason, neither of you would say..." She sighed. "Just trust me on this, please. Let me help."

Louis threw his head back and laughed, "Who would have thought a day I would need a human’s help would come? Fine," he said, turning to her. "I won’t give up just yet but you only get tonight."

"What?" She asked.

"You have to convince Jael to forgive me and let me stay before the sunsets because as soon as they sunset, I will leave," he said.

"You don’t get to set down the rules," she replied, sounding exasperated.

"But I have already given up. I am only holding out because of you," he said.

"What will I get if I get Jael to forgive you?" She asked.

"Well, whatever you want," he replied with a bow. "It’s a feat even I can’t accomplish. If you can, you not only earn my respect but anything else you want."

"I thought you respected me," she said with wide eyes.

He shrugged, "Not really. You’re still a human. Don’t forget that. There isn’t much you lots can do."

"You’re rude..."

"And condescending, I know." He winked at her.

"Well, I already know what I want, and since you said anything you can’t back out."

"Unlike what I seem, I am a man of my word."

"I hope," she said and rolled her eyes.

"Have I given you a reason to doubt?"

"Not yet but well, I don’t know you, and remember you’re a vampire. It would be foolish of me, a human, to trust you."

"Ah, I see. Well played. Let’s hear it then. What do you want in exchange for convincing Jael to let me stay, on the off chance that you manage to pull this off?"

Mauve glared at him, not missing his condescending tone. "You will tell me what happened and why Jael is so angry at you."

He squinted his eyes at her, "I can tell you that now. I was away for a long time."

"Yes, I know but I don’t know why you left."

"Oh, that’s what you want."

She nodded.

"That’s disappointing. You could have gotten the chance to get me to do anything."

She gave him a disgusted look.

He waved his hands, "That’s not what I mean." He sighed, scratching the back of his head, "It’s not as important as you think. That’s why Jael is so pissed at me."

"Still, I want to hear all about it."

He touched his forehead, "If that’s what you want. You will get it but only if you can."

"I can hear the doubt in your voice," she squinted at him.

"In my voice? Hah! I don’t believe you can, not even a little. Yes, you mean a lot to Jael but you can’t convince him."

She squinted her eyes, "You will eat your words."

"Yes, gladly so. Do you think I don’t want his forgiveness? Why do you think I am trying my hardest? That’s enough about the matter. You only get tonight because it’s best not to throw your water in this basket."

"Thank you for your vote of confidence."

"You’re welcome," he grinned at her. "You should go to your room. You look exhausted. Jael wouldn’t be pleased if you didn’t sleep because of me."

Mauve nodded, she didn’t have anything more to say and she might have bit more than she could chew.

She didn’t think she could try to talk Jael into letting Louis stay. She has tried severally and he wouldn’t even discuss the subject more than necessary.

She slowly walked away from him and walked into her room. She touched her brows as she rested her back against the closed door.

What has she gotten herself into? She groaned loudly. She did have a trick up her sleeve but there was no chance Jael would agree to this.

Still, she was going to give it her all even though it was obviously a bad idea that might cause a rift between her and Jael but she would rather risk that than let him lose Louis.

Besides, this was more for her than for Jael. If she at least had one more vampire on her side, that was a win. There was no way she would let the only other vampire who didn’t treat her badly leave.

Mauve pushed herself off the door, her resolve stronger than ever. She lay on her bed and closed her eyes, trying to get some sleep even as her mind went back and forth.

She wasn’t sure she would be able to get enough sleep but she would try.

Mauve’s brows furrowed as she felt something cold on her forehead. She winced a little, she didn’t want to wake up just yet.

"Wake up, sleepy head." She heard Jael say just as he planted a kiss on her lips.

She woke up immediately, her eyes wide with shock.

"Well, that proved effective," Jael said, pulling away from her.

She blinked as her vision cleared. His hair was tied back and it looked wet. Did he take his bath?

The ropes around his neck were untied and a copious amount of chest was in view in the way he bent over her.

Mauve blushed and looked away. "Jael," she said. "Is it time for the second meal already?" She rubbed her eyes, hoping he didn’t notice her ogling him.

"Yeah but if you’d rather eat in, I would also prefer that."

"No, I will get ready." She pulled her hands from her face and tried to get out of bed but fell back and into Jael’s legs.

"We can cancel the second meal and do this instead," he kissed her neck and she giggled.

"Jael," she called. Mauve hated the way she sounded more aroused than annoyed.

He moved his tongue across her skin, his fingers moved her hair to give him more access.

A loud cough interrupted. Mauve hoped the ground would open and swallow her. Right in the corner of the room was Mill.

"I will help you get dressed, Mauve."

"Yes, of course." She jumped out of Jael’s clutches.
