The Vampire King's Possession -
Chapter 432. Exotic
Chapter 432: 432. Exotic
"What do you think?" He asked.
Mauve’s eyes widened a little as she saw her reflection. Was it the dim light in the room that gave her such an exotic appearance?
Her hair was down but it was all gathered to the side, thanks to Jael. However, she couldn’t deny that it didn’t give her an allure.
The necklace on her neck, though small, stood out more than she expected. The light couldn’t properly reflect how beautiful the jewelry was but it didn’t dampen it.
She instinctively grabbed onto it as she turned her neck to the side. It was beautiful and the matching small earrings went very well with the neckpiece.
"It’s beautiful," she said.
"You’re beautiful," he whispered.
"Jael," she chuckled.
He spun her, "Do you think I don’t mean what I say?" He asked, his eyes scanning her face.
Mauve froze, her brain was having a hard time forming words. How was she supposed to think when his hands around her waist were burning a hole through them?
It was almost unbelievable as she couldn’t feel his skin through her clothes and even if she did, his hand would be cold.
However, the idea of holding her in this position was enough to send her into a frenzy.
He followed her gaze and bent his head. Mauve immediately placed a palm on his chest. If he did anything right now she was certain they wouldn’t make it for the last meal.
"I think we are done here," she said.
He squinted his eyes at her, not hiding his disapproval. "Yeah, we will continue this later. Shall we?" He asked and let go of her only to stretch out his palm to her.
She nodded, grinning at him. "Of course."
They walked out of her room and were soon at the foot of the stairs. Mauve tried to walk with space between them so she wouldn’t bump into him but Jael kept pulling her closer to himself.
Thankfully she got to the door of the dining hall without tripping because at some point she had to walk close enough to step on his feet.
The guards didn’t waste any time in getting the doors open. They had their head bent until Jael went completely past them and they shut the door behind him.
Mauve winced a little as they walked into the hall. She thought it was more brightly lit than normal.
There was a chandelier of candles hanging over the dining table and there looked to be more people than usual.
Louis was the only new person she knew of. Were there more? They were most likely Lords.
As she has found out, only Lords and Jael’s personal guards used the dining hall with him.
She supposed the rest of the guards ate separately or had some section they ate in. She has never really wondered about it.
They walked closer to the table and it was Mauve’s turn to cling to Jael. If she thought the people who sat at her father’s table had an intense gaze, she must have been out of her mind. It was certainly nothing compared to the look the vampires were giving her right now.
Mauve held her chin up as she clung onto Jael’s hands. She was in a pretty dress and wearing Jael’s late mother’s necklace, there was no reason to feel less than the rest of the people at the table.
Jael was obviously proud of her. He was walking into the dining hall with her in his hand for all to see. Maybe it wasn’t any different than before but she would like to believe it meant something.
They got closer and the vampires gave out their greetings. Jael moved to the empty spot on his right side.
It was the only empty spot next to Jael’s seat as the one on the opposite end was taken by Louis who was winking at her.
She bit the inside of her cheeks to keep from laughing, "Thank you," she whispered to Jael as she took her seat.
He stretched out his hand and touched her face. He looked reluctant to let go and then Louis cleared his throat.
Mauve reddened all the way to her toes. She kept her gaze straight ahead, she didn’t want to see the expression on the rest of the vampires’ faces. It didn’t help that she was the only one in her seat.
Jael finally sat down and the rest of the vampires dropped to their seats after him.
"You look absolutely breathtaking, Mauve." Louis let out as soon as he took his seat.
"Thank..." Mauve started to say but the look on Jael’s face dried up the rest of her words.
"Easy tiger," Louis smirked and leaned back but not before giving Mauve another wink.
She couldn’t help but think he was just precious, he was obviously trying to get on Jael’s nerves.
She looked down the line she was seated in and her eyes met Danag. "Danag," she cried. "You are alright."
"Of course, Mauve. There is no need to look so concerned it was naught but a scratch."
"I am glad you’re alright." It was definitely more than a scratch but as she has discovered dwelling on vampires’ injuries seemed to piss them off.
"Enough fussing," Erick said, he was seated right next to her. She had to bend forward slightly to see Danag.
She gave him an unimpressed look and turned her gaze away. Just as she looked away her gaze rested on Corbin and right next to him was Otis.
She looked away immediately not wanting to see the look on their faces, she could tell it wasn’t good.
Haney was also at the table and unusually he didn’t seem to pay her any mind. There wasn’t any look of disapproval, he just completely avoided her gaze.
Mauve found that she didn’t mind that at all. It was definitely better than hostility.
There were three other faces she couldn’t recognize but Mauve wasn’t about to ask or stare at them. She figured they were Lords who were part of the Paler Elimination squad.
