Chapter 431: 431. Deep Red Gemstone

"Then you wouldn’t have to wear anything."

Mauve heard Jael’s voice as clear as day in her ears. She was glad Mill was out of earshot because she would rather be buried than have her hear this.

"Jael," she called, pressing her face against his shirt.

Her face was burning but it wasn’t the only thing reacting to his words. She didn’t like the fact that he had this much effect on her.

She knew if he was insistent, she would agree to cancel eating at the dining hall without much cajoling. They haven’t spent enough time together.

She looked up at his face to see him looking down at her, his blue eyes bright and his gaze hypnotic.

He grabbed her chin and bent his head just as she stood on her toes. She was still barefoot

He kissed her softly, his lips gently sucking on her upper lips. His gentleness was more arousing than it should be.

She wrapped her arms around his neck as she kissed him back. She was in a hurry to deepen the kiss. She pushed her touch into his mouth just as she heard Mill clear her voice.

Mauve pulled back immediately and hid her face in Jael’s shirt. She had been completely lost in the moment and didn’t even realize Mill had returned until she spoke.

"I-I found the jewelry, Sire," Mill said.

Mauve could tell Mill was amused. The smile in her voice was apparent. Mauve hoped the Vampire wouldn’t tease her about it later.

"Is that so?" Jael chuckled.

Why was everyone else amused by this? She wasn’t, not in the slightest. It was a little embarrassing.

She knew Mill already knew but for her to see them in the act was a completely different deal.

"Yes, Sire. I would like to put it on for her."

"No, it’s fine. You may leave us. I will take it from here."

Mauve pulled her face away from Jael’s shirt and saw him accept the Jewelry from Mill.

She couldn’t see what it was because as soon as he accepted them, he closed his palm around them as if to hide it from her.

Mauve frowned. She couldn’t comprehend why. She was going to see them in the end. After all, it was her neck and ears the jewelry was going to be on.

Mill bowed one more time and gave Mauve a knowing look before Mill went out of the door.

"Let me see," she said when it was just the two of them left.

"No," Jael said, pulling his hand that held the jewelry from her reach because she tried to grab it.

"Why not?" She pouted.

He rubbed her lips with a thumb. "Because," he dragged. "Where is the fun in that?" He winked at her.

"Jael," she cried.

"Humor me, unless you want to be late for dinner."

"Fine," she rolled her eyes and rested her gaze on his face. "Would you like me to turn around?"

"Whatever pleases you, if you prefer I move, that can be arranged."

She didn’t like the smile on his lips nor the enticing sound of his voice. She sighed and slowly turned around giving her back to him.

He immediately put an arm around her and pulled her to his body. Her back against his front. She could almost feel every inch of him.

"Jael, I don’t think you will be able to wear it on me if you’re that close."

He didn’t respond, instead, he gathered her hair to the side. She tried to move away to give him more space but he pressed her against him once again.

She felt his fingers on the side of his neck. The cold tips felt nice against her skin.

He touched her earlobe and Mauve closed her eyes. He took his time as he helped her wear the first one.

"Your second ear," he whispered, his voice raspy.

Mauve swallowed as she did as he ordered. It didn’t help that he was speaking very close to her ears.

He was definitely doing this on purpose, right? He took his time as he helped her put on the last earring, teasing her earlobe and touching it more than he needed to.

It took all of Mauve’s willpower to keep still. Her ears were pretty sensitive and she could feel each touch very clearly.

She clamped her teeth to keep from making any weird sounds. If she gave him just the reaction he wanted, he would keep at this and they would be late for the meal.

They were already late but Jael was hellbent on taking his time. She wasn’t complaining but if this dragged on for any longer she would be the one to ask him to cancel the last meal at this rate.

"You can straighten your neck," he said and he stepped backward.

He put both hands over her head and placed the necklace across her chest. Mauve looked down and was met with a deep red gemstone.

She could have sworn it reflected the flame. It glimmered and called to her. It was pretty.

"Keep your neck straight," Jael said and kissed her neck.

"Jael," she said. She grabbed the side of her neck he kissed and turned around to glare at him.

He gave her a blank stare. "If you keep fidgeting, this will take longer."

"You’re not helping, I have been staying as still as possible."

"Have you?" He asked with a small smirk.

"Stop messing around," she said, turning away from him.

"I have no idea what you’re talking about," he smirked.

He clasped the jewelry and moved closer to her his hands moving from the back of her neck to the front.

He traced her skin, heading downward, and didn’t stop until Mauve grabbed his hands.

"Wet blanket," he whispered.

"Jael," she said and started walking away from him. "Don’t call me that." She pouted. She couldn’t believe he was still calling her that.

He stretched out his hand and pulled the chair out of the way so she could see herself in the mirror properly.

"What do you think?" He asked.
