The Vampire King's Possession -
Chapter 428. Happy To Be Back
Chapter 428: 428. Happy To Be Back
"Mill," she cried as she rushed to the door. She stopped herself just before she bumped into Mill. She wanted to run in for a hug but she wasn’t too sure about that.
"Mauve," Mill grinned at her.
She moved the light out of her face and spread out her arms. Mauve didn’t hesitate. She jumped into the vampire’s arms hugging her tightly while Mill rubbed her back with one hand as her other hand held the light.
"Welcome back, Mauve," Mill said.
Mauve nodded and just hung onto Mill. She could feel the water in her eyes and she knew she would need some control to stop the tears from falling.
"How was your journey to and fro?" Mill asked.
Mauve nodded again, her voice was clogged. It was especially hard to speak.
Mill rubbed her back and let her take her time. Mauve held on tightly. There was no reason to be on the verge of tears but she was.
It was so hard to hold the tears back. It was without a doubt that she was happy to be back and the realization that things could have gone differently and she would have never seen Mill again was hitting her harder than she wanted it to.
"It is very good to see you again, I almost thought I might never see you," Mill added when she didn’t say anything.
Mauve nodded, it was the only thing she could do. If she tried to speak she would burst into tears.
"I hope you didn’t run into any problems. You look like you’ve lost a bit of weight. Was it the journey back? I am sure it was pretty stressful. Palers are going haywire these days. I am glad you got here safely." Mill didn’t stop speaking to her.
Mauve nodded, still grabbing Mill. She missed Mill’s gentle voice.
The vampire laughed, "You can let go now. I am not going anywhere."
Mauve nodded again and slowly got down. She was sure her face was red. It must be from trying so hard not to cry.
"You haven’t changed," Mill grinned at her, bending slightly so she could touch her face.
"It’s really good to see you again, Mill." She replied with her head bent as she twirled with her fingers.
"Finally," Mill replied. "I thought you’ve lost the ability to speak." She chuckled. "Same here, Mauve."
"Mill," Jael’s thunderous voice reached them. If Mauve didn’t know better she would say he sounded a bit irritated.
They both turned their attention to where he sat by the bed but Mauve saw that he was no longer on his feet.
"Sire," Mill dropped down immediately. "Welcome back. I apologize for not paying my respects immediately."
"There is no need for such formalities. You can go with Mauve and help her freshen up. How much longer would it take before the last meal?" He asked.
Mill slowly raised her frame but she kept her head bent. "At least an hour and a half."
He strutted to where Mauve stood by the door. Mauve couldn’t help but be impressed by how quickly he got to where she was standing.
"That should be more than enough time for you to get ready, right?" He asked, lifting her chin slightly so she would look into his eyes.
She nodded, "Yes, it is more than enough."
She tried not to show the disappointment on her face. She had expected they would take their bath together but this was good too. At least she could spend some time with Mill.
"Good, I will come to get you when it’s time. For now, I have a few errands to run but don’t hesitate to let me know if you need anything."
She nodded, "I won’t," she said with a big smile.
"Well, then I will see you very soon."
Mill bowed again before carefully leading Mauve out the door of Jael’s room. They both walked out in silence.
She had several questions and she wondered if Mill had any for her but she knew she couldn’t bombard the vampire.
They had more than enough time to catch up; there was no need to be in a hurry.
They walked down the path together. Mauve’s palm tightly clasped in the vampire’s cold palm.
She watched the back of Mill’s head as they walked together. Mill didn’t look any different from when she left and the vampire did look genuinely happy to see her.
Mauve could feel excitement bubbling in her chest and a weird feeling in her stomach. She was happy to be back, there was no doubt about it.
Mill stopped in front of her room and opened the door. Mauve could not help the gasp that escaped her lips. Her room was almost the same.
There was barely anything out of place. Well, she wasn’t sure yet. She would need more than a candlelight to confirm this information.
Mill closed the door behind her and led her to the bed. "Could you sit here for a few minutes? I will be back with your bath water."
Mauve wanted to tell Mil to stay with her, that she could ask a servant to bring her bath water but she didn’t.
"Thank you," Mauve said instead.
Mill nodded carefully placed the light on Mauve’s bedside table and made her way to the door.
Mauve could barely sit still but somehow she waited until Mill was out the door before jumping out of the bed. She picked up the light as she looked around, trying to get a better view of things.
Mauve walked to her dresser first. The table seemed empty. She pulled the first drawer and she was greeted with her brush.
She smiled to herself, she didn’t realize she had forgotten this until she had gotten to Greenham. The maids had to get her a new brush.
She slowly made her way to the wardrobe. Mauve didn’t know what she was expecting to see but she knew she had to check.
She pulled the wardrobe open and a loud gasp escaped her lips. Simultaneously, a loud knock echoed in her room.
She quickly closed the wardrobe and returned to the bed. Mill pushed open the door and walked into the room with a servant behind her.
