The Vampire King's Possession -
Chapter 414. Straws and Leaves
Chapter 414: 414. Straws and Leaves
"How is it? Can you stay here?" He asked gently, his eyes didn’t hold the anger she saw a few seconds ago.
She nodded immediately, "I can..." she started to say but Louis interrupted her.
"You see, it’s not that bad. If Mauve can take it, I am sure you can too," Louis smirked.
"If you find it unbearable, we can go elsewhere," Jael said, still looking down at her as he completely ignored Louis.
"It’s not that bad, really but I don’t know about you," she whispered. "Vampires have a stronger sense of smell, right?"
In another couple of minutes, her brain was bound to forget about it; she doubted that would be the case for Jael.
"Don’t worry about me, I’ll figure something out but you don’t have to bear it simply because of that. I am sure they can find a good enough place for you to stay."
Was he suggesting that she left so the smell wouldn’t bother her? The fact that he wasn’t thinking about leaving meant he truly needed to stay in the cave.
At this point, she couldn’t decide if Louis was messing with Jael or if this was the only place they could find.
"For me? Does that mean you’ll remain in the cave while I stay elsewhere?"
"That would be best. I can hold my breath for longer. I will be fine."
They weren’t under water for goodness sake. Besides, the source of the smell has already been taken out. It should be better soon enough. Also, her sense of smell wasn’t that strong.
"You should be more concerned about yourself. Don’t worry about me." She threw his words back at him. "Unlike you, I can almost no longer smell it."
The words were barely out of her mouth when she jumped down from his hands. She got to the ground and lost her footing a bit but he held her steady.
"Well then, I suppose my work here is done. Let me know if you do have any more requests but make your requests as soon as possible, sunrise is upon us."
Louis didn’t even wait for a reply before slipping out the way he had come, leaving her and Jael in the cave.
Mauve looked around the cave. It wasn’t too bad if you took out the smell. She was sure there were insects in the corner. She shivered as she thought about it.
As long as she wasn’t attacked by ants or roaches she was sure she would be fine. This was a huge lie but she would try not to dwell on the worst parts of the cave.
The cave was big enough to hold all five of them snugly. Therefore there was more than enough space for her and Jael.
Unfortunately, Jael had to keep his head bent at a certain angle to keep from hitting the ceiling. This wasn’t unexpected, the rock that the cave was a part of wasn’t so big either.
It was even a mystery how this much space was inside the tiny rock. However, she couldn’t help but think the cave wasn’t a natural occurrence. It looked made.
It looked like sharp instruments had made this hollow space inside the rock. The only thing she could think of that could possibly make this was Palers.
Her heart skipped a bit. They were definitely here. This was their home and considering how the sun was in the Nolands, it was only typical that there were structures like this all around.
"You don’t have to worry about anything," he said. "It’s daylight. Also, I am sure they checked the cave thoroughly, and even if they didn’t, I’ll protect you.."
She turned to look at him with wide eyes, nodding slightly. Maybe it was the way he looked at her as he spoke, she didn’t have one doubt in her mind.
Mauve turned her head as she noticed something out of the corner of her eyes. There was some sort of bed in the corner of the cave.
It was just one and it didn’t look very comfortable but the floor of the cave was smooth enough. Unfortunately, she was sure it was as hard as it looked.
However, that wasn’t the problem. It was the fact that she realized they would have to spend the entire day on that small cloth. It was a crime to call it a bed.
It wasn’t an issue, she just spent the entire journey on his legs. She shouldn’t have any problem.
She looked back at him and he just stood staring at her. "Is it not to your liking?"
He looked worried, she couldn’t help but smile to herself. Was it just her or did he look a bit nervous?
"That can’t be to anyone’s liking," she replied with a smile.
"I suppose," he replied.
"But it’s not my first time in the Nolands and it looks comfortable enough."
Mauve was lying but there was no reason why Jael should treat her like she couldn’t handle a little hardness.
"Alright, after you. Get comfortable."
The word ’comfortable’ shouldn’t exist in this situation. It was just for a few hours, she was sure she would do just fine.
She walked to the bed without hesitation and slowly got on her knees. Mauve’s expression showed her surprise. It was softer than she had expected.
"It’s not as hard as I thought," she exclaimed. "Is that straw and dried leaves?"
She had not been able to see it because of how dark the cave was. It wasn’t that comfortable but it surely made a difference to just lying on the ground.
"It looks like it," he said, crouching down with her.
She smiled at him and his eyes scanned her face. She noticed his gaze slowly lower and came to rest on her lips.
She leaned toward him and then a loud sound interrupted. Her stomach had let out the loudest sound she had ever heard.
"Would you like something to eat?" He asked, she could hear the laughter in his voice.
