The Vampire King's Possession
Chapter 405. Jael and Galath

Chapter 405: 405. Jael and Galath

Mauve jerked suddenly at the sound of a knock on the door. She pulled away from Jael, wiping her face. She didn’t miss Jael’s frown.

"Who is it?" She called out.

"Galath," the voice said. "I see you’re awake princess."

"Yeah, come in."

"The vampires said they are ready to leave whenever you are. We have been trying to get you to wake up for more than three hours now. I figured the journey took a toll..."

Galath’s words trailed as he noticed Jael’s presence. "Who is that?"

Mauve frowned, she had assumed Galath was aware of Jael’s presence but by the looks of things, he wasn’t.

She adjusted putting more distance between them. "This is Jael, the Vampires’ Primus."

Mauve felt his stare but she didn’t meet Jael’s gaze. She didn’t want to, she could tell with the way her skin shivered that unless she was willing to die on the spot, it was best to not look up.

She wasn’t sure what about this pissed him off but she was willing to bet it was Galath’s interrupt.

"Jael," she pointed to him without looking at him. "Galath," she held Galath’s gaze. "He is a knight and was in charge of my journey."

"Don’t care," he said and touched her chin. Forcing her to look up at him.

"Your meal was ready hours ago, I already told the cook to reheat it. It should be here soon but before then I need to have a word with you."

Mauve turned her gaze to Galath, and Jael jerked it back. "He can speak," he said stubbornly.

"In private," Galath added.

"Jael," she said and placed her palm on the hand that held her chin. She slowly pulled his hand away as she moved her head from his grasp.

His gaze darkened and for a second she thought he was going to protest or worse, send Galath flying out of the room.

"I need to speak to Galath, alone."

She spoke as softly as she could. It was like trying to calm a wild beast, she could see his anger. He didn’t even try to hide it.

"You want me to leave," he said and pulled away from her, rising to his feet. "I will leave."

"I-I didn’t... Thank you."

There was no point trying to sugarcoat the situation, she did want him to leave. In fact, she was grateful for the interruption.

Sure, he did say how sorry he was but that wasn’t nearly enough. Not to mention what she had to go through.

However, she was just saying all these to give herself a reason not to forgive him so easily and it was so hard to not do that when he was staring at her like that.

She wasn’t going to lie to herself, she was absolutely grateful for Galath’s interruption. Another minute more and she would have fallen into his arms as easily as that.

She watched his back as he walked away from her. He headed straight for the door, stopping in front of Galath. Galath was by no means short but Jael towered over him, easily.

"Move," Jael ordered.

Mauve winced, he didn’t have to be so dramatic, there was more than enough space for him to go around. The fact that he was choosing not to do that was just childish.

Mauve couldn’t see Jael’s face as he had his back to her but she could clearly see the Galath’s face. She watched it slowly change from annoyance to fear as he looked up at Jael.

He bent his head quickly as if reeling from looking at Jael’s eyes. She wondered what he saw in them.

He moved without saying a word, making enough space for Jael to get to the door. Galath then took a step forward toward Mauve.

There was no indication of what had just occurred on his face but Mauve noted he didn’t say anything even after the door had closed.

"Galath," she said, trying to get his attention as she pushed herself to the edge of the bed.

"Ah yes," he said, shaking his head as he snapped out of it.

"What did you want to talk to me about?" She asked, staring at him with concern on his face. "Did something happen?"

"I-I wanted to talk to you about the journey but..." He stopped speaking and rushed toward her squatting to his knees.

"Galath." Mauve’s eyes widened as he grabbed her palms. "What’s going on?" She asked.

"It’s not too late, we can call off the journey."

"What?" She asked, staring at him in horror.

"You can’t go with him. His menacing glare is enough indication of the type of person he is. I can only imagine the things you had to go through."

This wasn’t a joke, she could see the seriousness on his face. Just what did he see on Jael’s face? He looked absolutely concerned.

"Galath, there is no need to be so concerned. I am fine," she said.

"You always say that. H-How..." he looked at a loss for words.

"Thank you for your concern."

"I insist, Princess." His voice turned serious. "He is dangerous without a doubt. You don’t have to do this."

Mauve pulled her hands from his grasp. "That’s my husband," she said.

She didn’t really have a reason to defend him because Jael could be dangerous. However, she couldn’t sit back and watch Galath talk about Jael like he did heinous things to her.

He was nice to her and he treated her better than she thought vampires would. It would be unfair to let Galath sit here and assume the worst.

"That’s not enough reason to plunge headfirst into hell," he said. He was still on his knees and his gaze was still as intense. "Please Princess, think about it."

Mauve frowned. "As I have said, Jael is my husband and I do not appreciate the assumptions. Thank you for your concerns but there is absolutely no need for it. I am fine and that is the truth. So please, let this go. It’s embarrassing in itself that I have to stress this."
