The Vampire King's Possession -
Chapter 406. Time To Leave
Chapter 406: 406. Time To Leave
"It’s embarrassing in itself that I have to stress this," Mauve said as she slowly watched Galath’s countenance change.
"It was not my intention to embarrass you," he said as he stood to his feet. "I was merely hoping to..."
"Speak some sense into me?" She asked.
Galath’s gaze darkened, "That wasn’t what I wanted to say."
"I know and I apologize for saying that but nothing you would say could possibly change my mind. It’s too late now. I already married him and I’m not one to abandon my marriage simply because it suits me."
Galath started to speak but he must have seen the look on Mauve’s face because he paused for a couple of seconds before he started to speak again.
"I understand and I am ashamed that I would even offer that you do that."
"It’s okay. My food should be here soon, right?" She asked, changing the subject.
This was depressing and she was sure she was taking out her frustrations on Galath. He was just trying to help, there was no reason to be so harsh on him.
"Yes," he said but didn’t look like he would back away.
She looked at the partially open window. "The sun looks like it has set for a while now. Oh no, we are already behind schedule. I should hurry. I didn’t think I would sleep for that long. I must have been tired."
"About that..." Galath started slow.
Mauve looked at Galath with a puzzled gaze. "What about it?"
"That’s the original reason I came here. I wanted to suggest..."
Mauve could see Galath struggle to phrase his words. She stared intensely at him trying to understand what was going on.
"Okay?" She added, urging him to go on.
"I wanted to suggest that you postpone the trip until tomorrow night. We made it here in such a ridiculously short time. I know you haven’t shown any sign of tiredness but I am sure the journey did take its toll on you. We couldn’t even get you to wake up. It would be best if you get some rest. You are going into the Nolands. I am sure the journey from her on out will be even more stressful."
Mauve watched Galath intently as he spoke. He was right, she was tired and would want nothing better than to fall asleep.
Her shoulders were killing her and she knew she would need to apply some form of pressure to ease the pain. Maybe rest was a good idea.
"Yeah, you’re right," she said. "However, I would prefer to get this over with. I just want to be done with the journey. Having to stay an extra day, would just prolong it."
Galath looked pained but he simply bowed his head and said, "As you wish, Princess. I will go to the kitchen and see what’s taking."
"Thank you Galath," she said and he got to the door.
Holding it open, he turned to look at her with a sad look on his face. "There is no reason to thank me. I didn’t do anything."
He didn’t give her a chance to reply before slipping out the door. Mauve let out a loud breath and threw herself on the bed.
It almost felt like she was fighting to return to Jael. Every time she was given a reason not to, she wouldn’t adhere to it. Mauve shook her head, something was really wrong with her.
She sat upright immediately as a knock echoed in the room. "Come in," she said and a young girl walked into the room with a tray.
Mauve thought the girl was familiar but it was hard to tell as she kept her gaze to the ground and wouldn’t look up at Mauve.

Mauve walked to the door, it was finally time to leave. She wasn’t sure how long she had spent but she was certain it would be midnight soon.
She hoped they wouldn’t have to spend more than two days in the Vampire Regions. However, because of this delay, she was worried that might be the case.
"Took you long enough," a voice said as soon as she opened the door.
"Aah!" Mauve screamed.
"Oops."
"Louis," she said.
"In the flesh."
"You scared me."
"Only because you scare easily."
Mauve kept quiet, she didn’t have anything to say to that. He was right. It still didn’t mean he didn’t do that on purpose.
"Why are you here? Where is Jael?"
"Well, he picked up an attitude. I figured that had something to do with you and I am here to take you to the carriage. Your personal escort."
"I see," she said, hiding her disappointment. She didn’t think she would get one. Why was she disappointed it wasn’t Jael? She had lost it for sure.
"There’s no need for that," she quickly added. "I am sure I can find my way."
"Are you sure? Last I heard humans are as blind as a day-old pup in the dark. We don’t want you to take the wrong carriage so right this way, Princess."
"We are not that blind," she replied.
"We would see about that," he winked at her and started down the path.
Mauve walked behind him as he led the way. They got to the end of the stairs in no time and she could see how empty the tavern was. It was no different from when she came in.
If she wasn’t sure of how late it was, she was sure now. There were about three men asleep in the pub. One had his head on the table, another was in the corner and one was all curled up on the floor.
Mauve could tell they were drunk. The strong smell of ale filled the air. She walked out of the Tavern with a second glance.
As soon as she stepped out of the Tavern, a carriage appeared in her line of sight. She turned to Louis with a dark expression.
How could she possibly miss this? It was right in front of the Tavern. Not to mention there was more than enough moonlight to illuminate the carriage.
