The Vampire King's Possession -
Chapter 400. Ride All The Way
Chapter 400: 400. Ride All The Way
"You want to ride all the way to the Nolands by yourself!" Malcolm yelled in horror, attracting the attention of the rest of the guards.
Mauve glared at him, "You don’t have to yell it so loudly."
They were in the corner of the field, she had pulled him out of the training grounds on the basis that she needed to talk to him.
He had seemed happy to find out the King had removed the restriction and had not objected when she said she would be leaving tomorrow.
However, his reaction to finding out she wanted to ride by herself was a bit over the top and unnecessary. She had thought he would be in agreement.
"Why?" He asked with a concerned expression. That’s at least a full week of riding. You just started, I doubt you would bake to keep up."
Mauve glared at him. "Would you stop underestimating me so much?"
"I am not underestimating what you can do," he said with a serious expression. "I am just concerned. The journey is bound to take a toll on you. It would be better to spend it in a carriage."
"Even though riding a horse would be faster."
Malcolm placed his hand on his head, "You have only ridden one horse and that type of horse isn’t suited for long travels. You won’t be able to keep up with another horse."
Mauve didn’t even try to hide her disappointment. "I know Sir Galath used one horse for most of my training but it doesn’t mean I rode just one horse. Contrary to what you think, I did ride Sir Galath’s horse and I rode on it for at least an hour. I like to think I should be able to handle the horses I have to use on this trip. As long as I don’t have to break them in myself, I am sure I would be fine."
Malcolm looked skeptical at her words, "Are you sure about this? You don’t have to do this? I am more than capable of arranging a carriage and enough guards to ensure your journey goes smoothly."
"I am sure, don’t try to change my mind."
He took a deep breath. "Okay, and you intend to leave tomorrow. That’s sooner than I anticipated."
"Are you saying you don’t have enough time to come up with the resources I need for the journey?" She asked with a condescending tone.
Malcolm gave her a blank stare. "I didn’t say that, I simply meant, I didn’t think you would leave this early. It’s literally in less than a day."
She turned away and looked out to the field where the guards were running about. She wrapped her arms around herself.
"I figured there was no need to stall. It won’t change the outcome."
Besides, she couldn’t help but harbor the feeling that her presence wasn’t welcome and it would be best if she left as soon as she could.
Also, there was no point lying to herself. She wanted to see Jael again. It was almost two months at this point since the last time she saw him and by the looks of things, it would take almost two more weeks before she could see him again.
There was also Mill, she wondered what the Vampire’s reaction would be if she returned. She frowned a little but depending on how things went, she might end up having to return. She pushed the thought away from her mind.
"Well, if that’s what you wish. I will make preparations and give you the details by nightfall. Are the Vampires aware of your plans?" He asked.
Mauve shook her head slightly, "Not exactly."
She did tell them the day she would be leaving but she didn’t explicitly say it wouldn’t be at the night.
She would have preferred to ride all the way but she knew it would be suicidal to not go with vampires while passing through the Nolands.
Paler would hunt her down as soon as it was nightfall. She would be lucky to survive the first few hours.
It also didn’t help that she couldn’t see a wink in the night, she wouldn’t know a paler was coming for her until it was too late.
"Well, your wish is my command. You can leave it to me."
She smiled at him, "I suppose, I should leave you to it."
"Yeah, Sir Galath will walk you to your room."
She squinted her eyes, "I’d rather not go there for the rest of the day."
"I apologize, you can do whatever else you want. However, I wouldn’t suggest riding as you’re about to do that for the next couple of days. A few practice runs are fine but nothing too serious."
"Your concern is appreciated but I’m pretty sure even I can figure that out."
"If you insist," he said, raising his right hand above his head and making a motion with his fingers. Within seconds Sir Galath could be seen setting up toward them.
"What was that?" She asked, looking at Malcolm and then Galath who was fast approaching them.
"Nothing special, I simply told Galath I would call on him when needed."
"Ohh," she said.
"Princess," he said with a soft bow as he got to where she stood.
"Sir Galath," she smiled at him.
"I see you are in good health," he responded. "That’s good."
"Thanks," she responded. "It’s good to see you again."
"I did try to speak to you during breakfast, you seem preoccupied."
"Ah, yes, I was," she replied without offering further explanation. "I was wondering if we could go riding for a couple of minutes."
"Yes, of course," he said looking at Malcolm.
Malcolm waved them away, "Yeah, you can do whatever she wants." The words were barely out of his mouth when he started walking away to join the guards.
"Well then this way please," he replied.
She nodded and walked ahead of him, the distance between the field and the stable was quite some way but Mauve didn’t mind the walk.
"Did something happen?" He asked after a few seconds of silence passed.
"No," Mauve replied, shutting down the question.
He was bound to hear about her leaving from Malcolm, she didn’t want to have to discuss that personally with him, she already knew of his disapproval.
