The Vampire King's Possession
Chapter 401. Prince Charming

Chapter 401: 401. Prince Charming

Mauve watched the vampires look at her in horror as they heard her plans to take on most of the journey without them. Danag looked particularly displeased.

"Why?" He asked, looking desperate. "Surely, a carriage would be more convenient."

"I am not looking for convenience," she said. "Besides, this way would be faster."

"But we won’t be able to join you in your travels," Danag added.

"Unfortunately for most of the journey. However, you would not need to slow down your pace on my behalf. I know it takes you less than three nights to get to the entrance of Nolands."

Danag still didn’t look pleased with Mauve’s explanation, "We promised the Primus we would get you to the castle."

"I have more than enough resources to get her safely to the edge of Nolands. You don’t have to look so concerned," Malcolm interjected. It was obvious he didn’t like Danag’s insinuation.

Danag looked hard at the Crown Prince, his disbelief apparent. He looked like he was about to say something but Louis interrupted.

"And this is what you have chosen?" He asked.

She turned her gaze to him, "Yes," she said unwavering.

"Well then if that’s what you decide. To us, all that matters is that you get to the Vampire Regions, to Jael. The means by which you do so doesn’t really matter."

"You can’t seriously be agreeing with this Lord Louis," Danag protested.

"Well, it doesn’t look like we have any say in the matter. Mauve has chosen it and Prince Charming here says he has the resources to get her safely to the Nolands. I suppose you could say that’s less work for us. Of course, I will agree with it."

Mauve couldn’t help the relief that showed on her face. It wasn’t like she thought the vampires would be hard to convince but she was glad this didn’t drag out any more than it needed to.

"Okay then," Danag said reluctantly. "I suppose we would meet in the village where we dropped you off."

Mauve nodded and Malcolm said, "I am glad we could all come to an agreement."

"I suppose," Danag responded.

"Is there anything else?" Louis asked.

"Not that I know of," Malcolm was the one who replied.

"Mauve," Louis called. "Is that all?"

Mauve didn’t miss the look on Malcolm’s face at Louis’ blatant disregard of his response. However, he didn’t say a word about it and just watched it unfold.

"Yes, that is all, I don’t think there is anything else to add."

"How long does it take to get to this village?" Louis asked, looking at no one in particular as he spoke.

"About a week," Malcolm responded, "I am not entirely sure. No one has exactly ventured a straight trip to the Nolands. However, if I am allowed to guess, I would say about a week."

"A week? That’s not too terrible," Louis replied.

"Provided that they don’t run into any obstacles on the way."

"Basically, a week it’s the lowest it could take to get to the village. Depending on what happens on the way, it could be longer."

"That’s about right," Malcolm replied.

"Well, I wish you a safe trip." He gave Mauve a curt bow as he made his way to the window.

"Thank you," she responded.

He smiled brightly at her and was gone the moment she blinked. Danag, however, hasn’t moved from the spot he stood.

Malcolm stared at him and took a step closer to him. "I am pretty sure we have concluded."

Mauve stretched out her hand and grabbed the end of Malcolm’s coat. There was no reason to be hostile. Danag was no reason to be alarmed.

"Mauve, I am glad you are willing to come back despite everything. Thank you."

Mauve looked away from him, "You shouldn’t thank me." She wasn’t exactly doing this out of the goodness of her heart.

"I wish you a safe trip and you can be assured of the rest of your journey going as smoothly."

"Thank you, Danag."

He nodded at her and jumped out the window. Mauve didn’t even hear him drop to the ground. Vampires were really a different breed.

Malcolm turned to face her as they were left alone. "Get some sleep. We would leave before the crack of dawn. You need to be ready long before then."

Mauve nodded her head, at this point if he asked her to sleep with her riding clothes, she would gladly do that.

"I told your maid to give you a hand but I didn’t exactly tell her why. If there is anything you need, let me know now and I will put it in place."

She shook her head, "I am fine, really."

Thankfully, she didn’t have a lot of things to carry with her. Aside from the new dresses and maybe clothes she would wear during the journey.

"Alright, I will let you get some sleep."

She nodded and rolled to a lying position but in the same way that she could see him as he walked out of the door of her room.

Mauve felt her stomach knot. She was really going back. She took a deep breath and immediately made it her goal to get as much sleep as she could.

Since she no longer had the King’s support, this was most likely the last time she would be able to sleep in something this comfortable for a while.

*********************

Mauve jerked out of bed as she heard the soft sound of a knock. Even though she had said she would get some sleep, she doubted she had been able to sleep more than two hours, her nerves kept her up.

She rushed to the door before another knock rang out and opened the door. "You shouldn’t have bothered knocking," she whispered as she opened the door.

"Princess," Maria said with a bow. "You’re awake."

"Yeah, come in. I doubt we have much time left."

Maria rushed in shaking her head. "The Crown Prince said he would be here in less than an hour and that I should get you and your things ready in that time."

"Okay, let’s get to it."
