The Vampire King's Possession -
Chapter 390. I Forbid You
Chapter 390: 390. I Forbid You
Mauve got out of bed with determination in her eyes and a fierce look on her face. She had so much to do today, but there was no way she could back out of this.
She couldn’t believe she had chosen to return to Jael. For several reasons, she has refused to dwell on this thought.
She let Maria dress her for breakfast. There was barely any conversation between them. Mauve was in no mood for casual conversation, and the maid could see that.
She exited her room in a long-sleeved dress and quickly made her way to the dining room. She would have to inform her father about her plan.
She wondered if she should include the vampires, but she decided against that and figured it was best to make it seem like she just decided to go back on her own without any external influence.
Mauve adjusted the sleeve of her clothes. It felt a bit tight. All she could wear comfortably were long-sleeved clothes that hid her scars. At least in Vampires Regions, no one flinched when they got a look at her scars.
Mauve blinked. She was really going back. It was almost unbelievable, and the intense feeling that this was a bad idea was even stronger than ever, but there were many things that needed clarification. If she never returned, she wouldn’t be able to clear this up.
She walked into the dining room with her head high. Mauve didn’t know if it was because she had somewhere to return to, but their stares didn’t bother her one bit.
She didn’t even bother greeting anyone as she took her seat. Most of the people at the table weren’t anyone she conversed with. She was early.
Barely two minutes later, the doors were thrown open, and Malcolm walked through the door. His younger brother followed behind him.
"Mauve," he said as his eyes rested on her. "I see you’re much better now."
She gave him a small smile as he sat next to her. "Yes, thanks."
"How was your night?" He asked. "Did you get enough rest?" He peered at her face as he spoke. "You look like you did."
"Yeah, I did."
He nodded, "That’s good," he said but didn’t tear his gaze away from her."
Mauve frowned a little. She didn’t like the way he was looking at her. It was almost like he could tell something was up.
"Don’t stare at me like that," she said and adjusted in her seat, starting to feel slightly uncomfortable.
"Sorry," he said, turned away, and turned right back to her again. "Is there something I should know?"
"What? Why?"
"I don’t know, it just feels like something is up."
"Nothing is. I was just cooped up in my room for a day. Stop getting ideas."
He raised his hands above his head, "As you wish," he grinned.
She chuckled softly, and the chuckle almost died on her lips when her eyes rested on a certain person. She didn’t look away immediately. She took her time before turning her head away.
At least breakfast was tasted, and she ate to her full. She would need a full stomach for what she needed to do today.
"Father," she said as soon as she finished her meal.
The table immediately went silent, and Mauve watched the Queen’s expression darkened.
If she ever thought their relationship was fixable, she must have been out of her mind.
She would always be something the Queen wished didn’t exist. Somehow, Mauve couldn’t blame her. She could only imagine how much it would break her if Jael suddenly popped out a child or, worse, chose a mate.
At least the Queen wasn’t cruel to her. There were several ways she could have made her life a living hell. Well, aside from ignoring her younger son’s childish behaviors, but that was a long time ago, she could let it go.
"Yes, Mauve," Evan responded immediately. "Is something wrong?" He asked.
"No," she said with what she hoped was a proper smile. "I was going to have a word with you."
"Oh, right now?" He asked with a furrowed forehead.
"Not particularly, but I will appreciate it if it can be today."
"You can’t say what it is about right here?" He asked.
Mauve gave him a soft frown before slowly shaking her head, "I am afraid it had to be in private."
She wondered why he had to ask that. If she could ask him here, she wouldn’t bother to tell him she would like a word. She would say what it is.
"I hope it’s nothing serious," he asked with a puzzled expression.
"No, I just wanted to make a small request."
"Is that so? Well then, if you’re not in too much of a hurry, how about after lunch? I have a few rounds to make this morning and a meeting with a few Aristocrats."
"After lunch is perfect," she replied.
"Good," he gave her a side smile. "Are you sure nothing is wrong?" He asked with an intense gaze.
"Yes, I am sure," she replied and rose. Giving a small curtsey to no one in particular, she said, "Thank you for the meal."
Mauve made her way out of the dining room. She just had to find a way to keep her occupied until lunch, or else her thoughts would burst out of her head.
****************************
Mauve followed behind her father, with about three guards tagging along. She wasn’t complaining. She was pretty much already used to the fact that her father needed guards to be constantly with him.
They were led to the drawing-room, and the door was pushed open. Mauve breathed in the familiar smell, and her eyes rested on the paintings on the wall. They would always be shocking to her.
She quickly made her way to the seat that had somehow become her designated spot, as her father was always sitting across from her.
"Mauve," he said as they comfortably seated. "It’s been a while since we had a conversation like this. Not since you nearly got to the castle."
She forced out a smile. "Yeah."
There had been no reason why she wanted to see her father, and since he didn’t call for her, there was no way they would have been able to see each other privately.
"How has the castle been so far? You like your new life?"
Mauve frowned at his odd phrasing; she wasn’t sure if he was trying to be funny or was just terrible at small talk. "Yeah," she said and forced herself to say more as it would be a little weird to say yeah twice in a roll. "I do like it. Everything has been really nice."
"I am glad," he said. "I didn’t get to do it right the first time, but this time around, I intend to fix my mistakes and make sure you get the life you deserve."
"There is no need for that. You’ve done more than I can ask for." Mauve replied modestly, even though that was far from her thoughts. However, since she needed to tell him before she left, she didn’t mind sucking up to him a little.
"No, I have barely done enough."
Mauve didn’t argue. What could she possibly say to that? Besides, it just felt a little bit unreal.
Maybe it was because she was over the act, and now that she could leave, there was no need to pretend anymore.
"Why have you asked to see me?" He asked when he noticed she didn’t add any comment to his words.
"Ah yes, I wanted to let you know that I would be going back to the Vampire Regions as soon as a couple of days from now. I just wanted to let you know before I take my leave."
"What?" Her father looked at her with disbelief on his face. "You’re not leaving," he said adamantly.
It was Mauve’s turn to look at him with disbelief. "What? Why not?"
"I am not letting you go somewhere so dangerous."
Mauve squinted. "What’s this about really? You had no problems sending me off the first time. What suddenly changed?" She asked.
"I told you the castle was attacked. The only reason I allowed you to get married to the vampire was because I thought it would put an end to the tyranny against us, but it didn’t change anything. They broke into the castle without caring about the treaty."
"I am married to this vampire. I can’t decide not to return simply because it suits you, father."
Mauve watched her father flinch; he looked visibly taken aback, and she realized this was the first time she was telling him no.
"I forbid you from leaving the castle."
"You can’t do that. You could have done that before I married him."
"You are willing to return to that monster even after what he has done."
Mauve blinked, "I don’t know. I just want to ask some questions and figure this out on my own, but you can’t forbid me from leaving."
"I can and I have."
