The Vampire King's Possession -
Chapter 363. Breakfast
Chapter 363: 363. Breakfast
Mauve didn’t retire to bed until the early hours of the morning. She had spent most of her time outside in the gazebo and now she felt a little drained. She knew she wouldn’t have any issues falling asleep.
"Good night, princess," Galath said, stopping her in front of her room.
"Thank you," she said, smiling at him as he held the door open for her.
She got into her room and without undressing threw herself into bed. She was asleep before she thought about it.
Mauve swore as she heard loud voices. It felt like she had only been asleep for a few minutes. Why was she being disturbed? She doubted it was dawn yet.
"What is it?" She grudgingly replied as she rolled to her side.
"Wake up princess."
"No," she said, shutting her tighter. "Come back later."
"I am afraid I can’t do that princess, we are here on the King’s orders."
Mauve’s eyes flew open immediately. "What? Why?"
"He would like you to join him for breakfast as he intended to have a conversation with you after the meal."
She sat up, "Did he say what the conversation was about?"
"No, we were only told to get you ready for breakfast," Maria replied.
Mauve rubbed her eyes, she could still use a few minutes of sleep but she had to get ready. "Okay," she said, sliding out of bed.
She wore a short-sleeved dress. It stopped about half her arm length, only a bit of her scars were sticking out. She walked down the stairs leading to the dining hall with her dress in hand.
"Milady," she heard Sir Galath call to her from the foot of the stairs. He looked like he was also on his way to the dining.
"Galath," she said smiling.
"I didn’t think you’d make it to breakfast, Princess," he said to her with a smirk.
"I assure you, it wasn’t on purpose." Mauve frowned as she noticed there was someone next to Galath.
He had blond long hair with bright eyes that glared at her. Somehow she could tell he was a knight and from the look of things, he didn’t look like he liked her very much.
"Are you on your way to the dining?" She added.
"Yes, would you like us to accompany you?" He asked.
"That would be wonderful," she replied, reaching the last steps.
"Well then, right this way." He gave her a soft bow.
"Thank you," she replied.
"Did you happen to get any sleep?" He asked.
She nodded, "I fell asleep as soon as I got to my room."
"That’s good."
Mauve could see the blond knight from the corner of her eyes. He was a couple of steps behind them, it was obvious he was putting distance between them.
Mauve ignored it, there was no reason to let such an inconsequential event bother her. Besides, she had received such a warm reception since she got here which was very unusual, coldness was familiar.
Galath pushed the door open, holding it for her to go in. As soon as Mauve walked through the doors, she felt the intense stare.
She tried not to falter as she made her way to the dining table. There were a lot of people she didn’t recognize. She figured they were guests at the castle or knights.
The two people she did recognize did not hide their disdain. Queen Lale and her youngest son.
Mauve blinked as she darted her eyes across the table, wondering where she would sit. She instinctively followed behind Galath and the blond knight.
It was funny how she had faced everything head on but now that she was in front of these two people, she could feel her confidence waver.
"Your majesty," they simultaneously said bowing low. Mauve gave a low curtsey behind them.
"How nice of you to join us, Mauve," The Queen said, noting her bow.
She smiled stiffly as the words dried from her mouth even though she knew the words to say, she couldn’t convince her mouth to move.
Galath pulled out a chair for her and she was grateful for the distraction. She took her seat and adjusted her dress.
She didn’t like the fact that she was seated close to the queen and directly across from her half-brother. She didn’t bother to look at his face because she was sure she wouldn’t like what she’d see.
"How was the journey back?" Queen Lale asked, eyeing her up and down.
"It was good, thank you."
"Hmm," she scoffed and turned away from her.
Mauve was grateful, it was very odd when the queen paid attention to her. It was easier to handle being ignored.
The sound of the door opening drew her attention to it. Her father walked in with two guards. One was in front of him and the other behind him.
He caught her gaze immediately and smiled at her. Mauve reflexively smiled back. She broke eye contact and brought her head down, preparing to rise to her feet.
"Your Highness," they simultaneously greeted.
"Have your seats," her father said, gesturing towards the chair as he took his seat.
The soft sound of chairs being dragged filled the room. The huge carpet underneath the table made it less annoying.
"Mauve," he said, smiling at her. It was quiet again as everyone was properly seated and ready to serve out their meals.
"Yes," she replied, lifting her head to look at him. She thought he looked a little bit older than before she left.
"I can properly have a good look at you. Did you sleep well? I am sure it must be hard to get used to the way things work around."
"It’s not so bad," she said with a shrug.
She only left for six months and it wasn’t like vampires did things drastically differently from humans. The only difference was vampires only moved around at night.
"Well, that’s good. Is everything to your liking?" He asked.
Mauve nodded, the forced conversation was starting to get a little awkward. Right now, she just wanted to eat and leave the hall.
"That’s good. Eat well, we have much to discuss."
