The Vampire King's Possession
Chapter 364. The Talk

Chapter 364: 364. The Talk

Mauve walked behind her father with a puzzled look on her face. About two guards accompanied them.

Mauve found it a little bit odd. It was a little hard to not notice that there were more guards around the castle than usual and there were always two with her father.

Did this have anything to do with the rule of not moving around? Maybe it was what her father wanted to talk to her about. All she could do was wait.

He stopped suddenly and Mauve realized they had stopped in front of the drawing room. She didn’t think she had ever been in this room before now.

The guards pushed the door open and Mauve blinked at the bright room. It was very well arranged.

There were paintings across the walls. There were at least three of the King but they were all exquisite paintings. Whoever had done them knew exactly what they were doing.

There was a painting of a garden and she stared at it a little longer than she needed to.

There were two sofas facing each other, the color was a mix between gold and cream. The curtains were a similar color. The color choice of the room was a bit bright but at the same time soothing.

"Have a seat," her father said, pointing to nowhere in particular.

She nodded and sat on the closest sofa while he sat opposite her. The guards stood behind him, she thought they were a little intense.

"I heard from Galath that you didn’t run into any trouble on your way here and the Aristocrats welcomed you with open hands."

Mauve nodded even though she wouldn’t exactly say with open hands. After staying at the Rosenbergs, the rest of the houses she had to spend the night in were a bit stiff towards her.

However, it didn’t matter how they reacted to her, all that mattered was she had a roof over her head. Besides, she was out of those places by dawn and they were completely forgotten.

"That’s good. You’re the princess of Greenham and should be treated as such."

Mauve squinted her eyes a little but she didn’t give in to the intrusive thoughts instead she responded like the perfect daughter.

"I have you to thank for that, Father. I have to thank you for making provision for me to get here safely."

"You don’t have to thank me. I should have never let you..." his voice broke before he could complete his sentence.

"Father?" She called out, leaning forward a little. "Is something wrong?"

"No," he shook his head. "Don’t worry about it."

"Okay," she replied and leaned back into the couch. "Did something happen?"

"What do you mean?" He asked with a frown.

"The castle seems more crowded than usual and there are more guards than usual."

"Well about that...’’ he dragged his words, he then paused, sighing slightly. "You just got here, there is no need to concern yourself with troubling matters."

Mauve frowned, something was definitely up. Was that why he called her back here? It didn’t make any sense. It wasn’t like she would be able to help in any way but that still didn’t explain the nice treatment and acknowledgment. She was beyond curious, she wanted to know what this was about.

"It’s not troubling Father, it is only right that I know what’s going on especially when it concerns the castle. I’d like to help in any way I can."

Mauve would have sworn she saw him smirk. She didn’t think she could help in any way, she was just curious. However, it confirmed her suspicions that she was only here because her father thought she could be useful.

"No father should rely on their daughter. I appreciate your offer but for now, all that’s most important is the fact that you’re back home safely."

Mauve adjusted in her seat, he wasn’t going to tell her yet, she could tell. She didn’t like this, it would likely keep her wondering for longer.

"I am glad to be back," she said through closed teeth.

"The crown Prince will be back by midday tomorrow. There would be a party held in the evening in his honor. I have decided to make it a joint party to welcome you both back home."

Mauve faked a gasp, "A party for me. There is no need to go that far, father."

She didn’t want to guess what she would have to give this time to make up for a party thrown in her honor. Last time she was married to a vampire king.

"You deserve much more."

Mauve couldn’t even work up excitement for this. The lack of genuineness made her stomach hurt.

"Thank you," she smiled and stood to her feet. "I guess I should prepare myself for such an honor."

"Yes, you should..." his voice trailed out as his eyes rested on her arm. "What’s that?" He asked with a frown.

"Oh that," she said. "They are scars from where I was attacked by a paler."

"What?" He asked.

Mauve frowned, something seemed off to her. "Yeah, it was a bit dangerous but I was able to get treatment in time and I am fine, it doesn’t hurt anymore."

He leaned back in the chair, "I see. I am glad you’re fine. I really should have never let you go there."

Mauve smiled softly at him and walked to the door. She didn’t want his pity. She had expected him to ask more questions about vampires but he didn’t. Somehow she suspected he eventually would.

Stopping at the door, she turned to look back at him. "Father," she called. "May I have your permission to learn how to ride a horse?"

"You want to learn how to ride a horse?" He asked.

She nodded, "I figured it is only proper I did."

"You are right and you don’t need my permission for that. You’re allowed to do whatever you want, on my orders."

Mauve beamed, "Thank you, Father," she said before rushing out the door.

She leaned briefly on the closed door. Did her father really think this wasn’t suspicious? It was more insulting than anything else.

Also, this wasn’t nearly enough to cover the fact that he sent her to the lions’ den without thinking twice. However, all she could do was take advantage of this for as long as she could. She was sure as soon as he found out she was sent away from the vampire regions, he would toss her aside again.

Mauve shook her head, she wouldn’t think about that. She would concentrate on the present and do the best she could.
