The Vampire King's Possession -
Chapter 348. Shall We?
Chapter 348: 348. Shall We?
"Princess," a loud voice called out to her and it was followed by incessant knocking.
Mauve was pulled out of her sleep with force. The knocks weren’t that loud but for some reason, it felt like the banging was happening in her head. She sat up and the room spun.
"Whoa," she said, grabbing her head.
She held it in her palm for a few seconds as she waited for the room to stop spinning. It was a bit odd that it was spinning even with her eyes closed.
After a couple of seconds, it stopped and she opened her eyes, her head still felt heavy and she could feel the start of an ache. Nothing was more annoying than waking up with a headache.
She pushed herself out of the bed. From the light streaming through the window, the sun was out and by the intensity, it had been out for quite some time now.
"Princess," the voice called again. It sounded like it belonged to a young girl.
Mauve unbolted the door and pulled it open. The young girl gasped and jumped back. Mauve wondered why the girl was shocked, the sound of the bolt coming was loud enough to alert her.
"I-I am so sorry for yelling so loudly but I have been knocking for some time now and I didn’t get any response."
"What can I help you with?" If this wasn’t important, she would like to return to sleep. She could feel her headache increase with every minute she was awake.
"Sir Galath sent me," she kept her head down as she spoke. "He said I should wake you up and help you get ready because they would leave the inn soon."
"Okay," Mauve said, rubbing her eyes. "What time is it?" She asked.
"A-a little after noon," she replied without raising her head.
Mauve yawned, that was not enough time to recover. After eating, she spent the next couple of hours just rolling in bed.
She didn’t fall asleep until it was almost nine. Which meant she only got about three hours of sleep. That wasn’t nearly enough.
However, she also knew the reason they had not left earlier than this was because Galath wanted to give her some time to rest. He shouldn’t have bothered.
She couldn’t help but think she wouldn’t have felt this bad if she hadn’t tried to sleep. "Okay, come in then," said and moved away from the door.
"Yes, Princess." She gave Mauve another bow and walked into the room carrying a bag with her.
"What’s that?" Mauve asked.
"Sir Galath gave it to me. He said he found it in the carriage and it looked easier to access its contents than the others."
Mauve knew immediately that Mill must have packed it up for her to have easy access to necessary clothes. She missed the vampire already.
"You can place it on the table," Mauve said, pointing to the table.
The girl bowed her head again and did as Mauve ordered. She still hasn’t looked Mauve in the eyes.
She rubbed her palms on her dress, "I will be right back with your bath water."
"Okay."
She bowed again and picked up the dirty dishes from last night. She turned and walked out of the room.
Mauve sat on the bed and looked out the window. From where she was seated she could only see the roofs of other houses.
She slowly stood up, scuffling closer to take a look. She pushed the curtain aside and was greeted with noises.
She could see a carriage riding across the path and children running around everywhere as they played with one another. A woman yelled as they kicked a stone into her bowl of water. Mauve chuckled a little.
Compared to earlier this morning, the village was bubbling. It made Mauve a little nostalgic. This was a sight she hadn’t seen in months.
Everything was so bright, it was like she was seeing through a pair of new eyes. She winced as she drew back into the room.
A soft knock and Mauve called out, "Come in, it’s open."
The young girl walked in first, she was holding a bucket, and behind her was Owen. She wasn’t sure she didn’t get a very good look at him last night.
"Good day, Princess," he said giddy with excitement as he placed the tub in the middle of the room.
"Hello Owen and thank you," she said with a smile, turning her entire neck to look at him."
Owen brightened as she said his name. "I will take my leave now, I am right outside if you need anything." he bowed and rushed out of the room.
The bath took a while as the young girl had also washed her hair and she helped Mauve style it. She had kept Mauve’s hair down, braiding the front to keep the hair out of Mauve’s face.
She had chosen to wear another pair of pants and a shirt similar to the one she had worn. It was long-sleeved and covered her scars.
The girl hadn’t reacted when she saw Mauve’s scar but Mauve noticed she had been extra careful when she washed her left side.
Her food was brought as soon as she was done with the bath. She ate quickly and as soon as she was done, she stood to her feet ready to leave. Her old clothes were packed and her bag arranged.
"Thank you," Mauve whispered to the girl.
"You’re welcome," she blushed and bowed her head.
She rushed to the door and opened it revealing Galath. "Sir Galath," she gushed.
"Are you done?" He asked as he looked down at her.
She was quick to look away, "Yes," her already soft voice sounded softer. She nodded and slipped through his side as he fled the room.
"Princess, good day. I hope you were able to get some sleep."
Mauve shrugged, "Yeah."
She tried to keep a straight face as his eyes scanned her face and the rest of her body. She felt them linger on her right shoulder a little longer than necessary before returning to her face.
"Shall we?" He asked, stretching his hand out and bending his head.
