Chapter 347. Galath’s Reaction
Chapter 347: 347. Galath’s Reaction
"I will try to get you more than just dried fruits," he replied.
"I will appreciate that." She smiled and watched him walk out the door. He closed the door and she bolted it.
She didn’t know how long she would stay in the tub but most likely it would be longer than she was supposed to. She could already imagine what the water would feel like against her body.
Mauve ripped away her clothes without any hesitation and sat in the tub. The warm water eased her sore muscles and she nearly cried out.
Mauve didn’t know how long she sat in the tub but she didn’t want to move, didn’t want to think. She just wanted to stay there for as long as she could.
Mauve had to force herself to move as she was afraid she would still be in the tub when Galath returned. She didn’t want to keep him waiting.
She dried her body. Her hair was still in a bun, it would be a hassle to try to wash it herself and it would take too long to dry. Besides, Mill did a proper job, she didn’t want to ruin it.
The dressing gown was a short-sleeved cream dress. It was a bit faded but it smelt clean and felt comfortable against her skin.
It wasn’t transparent and was very loose which of course was the reason why it was so comfortable. If it wasn’t so hideous and big, it would pass off as a regular dress.
However, comfort was more important in a sleeping dress than appearance so this was just perfect for her.
She picked up her old clothes and folded them. She placed them in the corner of the room and just as she was about to get into bed, she heard a knock.
"Princess, it is I, Galath."
"Just a moment," she replied and rushed to the door.
She unbolted it and he walked into the room with a tray in hand. The contents were covered but by the smell she could guess what it was.
"Some broth and bread, Princess. It was the only thing I could find. If this isn’t to your liking I could ask that something else be made."
"No, no, no. This is fine." It was even better, the warm broth would certainly make her feel much better and hopefully help her fall asleep faster.
"Okay," he replied and walked past her. He carefully placed the food on the table before slowly turning around.
Mauve watched his expression change from an awkward smile to a horrified wide-eyed look. She blinked in shock, wondering what was wrong.
"What-What happened?" She asked, looking behind her. He was staring straight at her but there was nothing wrong with her so she could only assume it was behind her.
Galath closed the gap between them, "What happened?" He asked, repeating her words, his horrified expression still hadn’t changed.
"What?" Her worry showed on her face. She didn’t know what this was about and she was starting to get worried.
"The scars," he said, taking another step forward.
"Oh," Mauve said with a sigh of relief. She took a step back, he was too close for comfort.
"Sorry," he replied and stepped back.
It was her fault, she had completely forgotten about them. It was only proper that someone who was seeing them for the first time would react like that.
She shrugged, "You don’t have to apologize."
"What happened? They look deep."
"Yeah," she glanced at the scars, fighting the urge to touch them. "I supposed they do."
"How did you get it?" He asked.
Mauve turned to look at his face. He looked so sympathetic that she felt sorry for him. She didn’t really want to talk about it but she doubted he would be satisfied without an answer.
"Was it the vampires?" His tone turned cold and his expression darkened.
"What? No." She said, raising her hand and vigorously shaking her head. "I was attacked by a Paler."
She placed her hand on her shoulder, covering the part of the scar that showed. Not that it mattered, the sleeves stopped mid-arm and the scar was almost to her elbows.
"A Paler! I can’t believe you had to go through that. You could have died."
Mauve nodded, she did feel like she did at some point. The pain had been so intense. She shook her head, trying to chase away the memories.
"Yeah, I needed a long time to heal from the wounds," she said.
"How could they let that happen to you?" Galath looked angry and she could see his hand close into a fist.
"It was nobody’s fault really. We were attacked out of nowhere but it’s all in the past now and my wounds are healed."
In the last part of her sentence, her voice went a little higher than normal. She didn’t want to talk about this anymore and she hoped Galath would take the hint.
All she just wanted to do was eat and hopefully get some sleep. Humans moved around in the daytime and since she had spent more than half a year sleeping during the day, it would take her body a while to adjust.
"I am so sorry for bringing up such a painful memory. I just couldn’t contain myself."
"Anybody would react the same way you did. They are huge scars after all." She smiled at him, hoping to ease the situation.
"I am so sorry that you had to go through that."
"It’s not your job to apologize. I would like to eat now and since it will dawn soon, hopefully get some sleep before we have to leave."
"Oh, right. I will leave you to eat. Do let me know if you need anything."
"I will, thank you so much for your help."
"You’re too kind, Princess. I am simply doing my job." He bowed and headed for the door.
She waved him off, closing the door behind him. She bolted the door and returned to the table. To say she was famished was an understatement. That was a bit draining.
At least her appetite was back because she felt like she could eat everything on the plate. Hopefully, she will be able to get some sleep.
