Chapter 346. Tavern’s Inn

Chapter 346: 346. Tavern’s Inn

"Sir Galath," a voice called out. "I am sorry I am so late."

"Where are the rest of you?" He asked.

"They should be here any minute, I left them behind." The young lad stood to his full height. Mauve could vaguely see his face, he looked younger than she was. He was tall, lanky, and slightly drooped over.

His eyes zoned in on her face and he didn’t look away, just stared at her like one would a piece of jewelry they couldn’t afford. Mauve wasn’t sure if she should be flattered or concerned.

"For goodness sake, Owen, don’t stare at the princess like that and say your greetings."

"I am so sorry," he said, throwing his head forward, Mauve would have sworn she heard a snapping sound. "I-I am Owen Martins. It is a pleasure to meet you, Princess."

She smiled at him, "The pleasure is all mine and you don’t have to be so formal."

"Thank you, Princess."

Mauve simply nodded, she couldn’t guess why he was thanking her but she didn’t want to drag this any longer.

"I need you to take care of the carriage. We will head for the inn."

"Okay," Owen replied, looking around. "Where are the vampires?" He asked enthusiastically.

"They left just before you showed up. If you had gotten here on time, just maybe you would have seen them."

"Noooo!" He cried. "I rushed here for nothing."

Mauve chuckled to herself at his dramatic reaction. He had raised his free hand high up in the air and dropped low as he cried no.

"It’s late Owen, I need to get the princess to the inn as soon as possible. I am sure the journey must have been stressful."

Galath was not speaking directly to her so she didn’t respond. She just stood with her arms crossed as she waited for this conversation to be over.

"Right," he said and stood to his full height again. "I’ll take care of the carriage," his voice was less enthusiastic as he walked toward the carriage. "I really wanted to see the vampires," he mumbled to himself.

"Right this way, Princess. I apologize for the delay." He placed the light at an angle that revealed the path in front of her.

She simply nodded and took a step after him. She was too tired and sore to have a conversation. She felt both mentally and physically draining.

All she wanted to do right now was lie down on what she hoped wasn’t a floor. At this point, any bed would do better than what she had laid on during the day.

She glanced at Galath and saw he was looking at her. He turned away immediately their eyes met. Mauve didn’t think much of it.

She was just grateful he was trying to start up a conversation or asking any questions.

Mauve swore internally as she took another step, this was farther than she had thought it would be but it had seemed like a hassle to get into the carriage again and she wanted to use her feet but now she was regretting it.

"Just a few more minutes," Galath said as if sensing her tiredness. "I shouldn’t have let you walk."

"I wanted to," she said curtly. Conversations took energy too and she didn’t have a lot to spare.

After what felt like a century, Galath proudly announced, "We are here."

He pushed the double swinging door and led her into the tavern. Mauve showed no surprise that a tavern was also doubling up as an inn.

"I know this is lower than what you expected but as I said, I didn’t think you would be arriving today."

"It’s fine," Mauve almost felt like she would bite her tongue if she had to repeat this sentence. "I just want some warm water to bathe in and someplace to sleep."

The lack of sleep was getting to her but she was worried she might not be able to fall asleep until daytime.

The tavern was empty, chairs overturned and it looked a bit of a mess. Mauve frowned at the similarity. It wasn’t the same one but it might as well be.

She didn’t stay in the tavern for too long as Galath quickly led her up the stairs. He stopped in front of one of the doors and pushed it open. It was the third room from the stairs.

Mauve blinked as she stared into the room. It wasn’t big but it was quite cozy. The first thing she zoomed in was the bed and it took all her willpower not to rush into the room and jump into the bed.

"This would be your room for the rest of the night, please bear with the minimal state. Tomorrow night will definitely be much better."

She nodded and walked into the room. It was bright and airy, if she could fall asleep, she was bound to have a good sleep.

"Water, please. I would like to have my bath now."

"Yes of course," he said and rushed away.

Mauve sat on the chair, it was the only chair in the room. At least there was a table. She placed her head on it as she waited. This was definitely better than she expected.

A knock alerted and she was on her feet. She walked to the door, opened it and Galath walked in with a tub. He placed it in the middle of the room.

"Here," he said, handing her some towels and a change of clothes. It was some nighties. "I got that from the innkeeper."

"Thank you," she said with a smile. She had been worried she might have to sleep in these old clothes.

"It’s my pleasure. Please let me know if there is anything you’d need."

"Do you think I could get something to eat?" She asked with a soft voice.

She was starving, she barely ate anything all night and in the Vampire Regions, it was almost time for the last meal.

"Oh, I will see what I can do but I don’t think I can find anything substantial."

"Anything would do, even some dried fruits." As much as she wanted something proper to eat, she knew she couldn’t be picky.
