The Vampire King's Possession -
Chapter 345. Now Sir Galath
Chapter 345: 345. Now Sir Galath
"Princess," a loud voice called. It echoed into the night and for a second everything went silent.
Mauve felt her eyes water, she quickly blinked it away as she turned in the direction of the voice. The voice wasn’t familiar but at least, someone was calling out to her. It gave her hope.
He came from the opposite direction, from the deeper cluster of houses, the path was dark so it was hard to see. Mauve squinted her eyes as she tried to him out in the dark.
He was holding a lamp but it was held down so there wasn’t enough light reflecting on his face.
"Finally," Erick’s voice echoed loudly in the night. "Someone decided to show up."
"I apologize," he said as he got closer. He sounded a bit out of breath. "However, I didn’t think you would get here tonight since it was already so late."
Mauve held in a snicker as he realized he was wearing mismatched shoes. That was definitely enough indication that he had rushed here.
"Have we met before?" Danag asked suddenly.
Mauve jerked her head to Danag and back to the stranger. Nothing about him was familiar but she couldn’t say so until she saw his face but his voice didn’t ring any bells.
"I believe so. We met at a town inn a couple of months ago. I am Galahad."
Galahad? Mauve’s eyes twinkled as her memory didn’t fail her. Though she couldn’t remember specific details about him, she could remember Galahad, the knight who helped her in the inn.
A/N: I chose this name in a hurry but as I write it thrice in a roll, I can only think absolutely not. So for the rest of the story, I will use this version of the name, Galath.
"Sir Galath," Danag said.
"I see you remember, that’s relieving. I was worried I would need to do more than that to explain who I am."
"It was quite the encounter, I doubt anyone would have forgotten it so easily."
"Well, true. I apologize again that you had such a nasty experience."
"It’s no fault of yours that happened and it’s in the past, there is no need for any recollection."
"Enough chit-chat," Erick interrupted. "We are leaving."
"You intend to return tonight. It is already so late, that you can stay the night and return the instant the sun sets. I have already prepared rooms for you."
"Thank you for your kind offer but absolutely not. Our work here is done," he said and started walking toward the gate.
"Is that how you also feel...?" Galath asked turning to Danag. "I am not quite sure I got your name."
"Yes, and the name is Danag..."
"Danag," Erick called out. "There is no time for an introduction."
"That’s Erick."
"It is a pleasure to meet you both and thank you for bringing her here safely."
"Oh that reminds me," Erick stopped abruptly and turned around. "You might want to fix your gate. I might have accidentally destroyed it while trying to get in." He sounded smug.
Mauve could see the glint of Erick’s teeth in the moonlight, she could tell there was nothing accidental about the broken gate.
"That’s okay, if I had opened it on time you wouldn’t have had to find a way to come in yourself."
"Aren’t you nice?" Erick said and turned away again. "Hurry up, Danag, I am about to pick up the pace."
"Mauve," the vampire called and Mauve turned so she could see his face.
There was an intense look in his eyes but other than there was no other expression on his face.
"Thank you for your help," she smiled brightly.
"I suppose this is where I leave you, Mauve. I wish you the best."
"I am grateful, Danag."
He nodded to her, turned away and she watched him catch up with Erick. Both of them were out of sight before her eyes could even follow their movements. She had forgotten how fast vampires were.
Mauve swallowed as she turned her gaze in the direction of the lamp. She was alone with a stranger, now was not the time to think like that but she couldn’t help it.
He walked closer to where she stood and lifted the lamp so she could get a good look at his face or if he wanted to see her face, she wasn’t sure.
He had brown hair that was in disarray, giving the idea that he had just woken up. His face was symmetrical and easy on the eyes. Mauve thought he was good-looking.
She realized she didn’t get a good look at his face that day as he was completely unrecognizable to her and if they had met in a different situation she certainly wouldn’t have known it was him.
"Princess Mauve," he said with a small bow. "Welcome." He was still holding the lamp high.
"Thank you," she responded quickly. "I am in your care."
"I promise to get you to the castle in one piece."
"I’d appreciate that," she said while keeping eye contact. She could kind of relax now. She didn’t trust this but it was better than nothing.
He turned his head to his right, "That’s your carriage."
She nodded.
"Someone will take care of it. Can you walk? I am sure you must be tired."
She was more numb than tired. Her bump was sore and she could swear she still couldn’t feel her legs for leaving them in a particular position for so long.
"I can walk," she replied.
"The inn is quite a distance from here. We could use the carriage if you’d like."
"No, I am fine. What direction is the inn?" She asked, looking around him so she could see.
He turned his frame around so they were both facing the same direction and he pointed. Mauve could see a light coming toward them.
"Sir Galath," a voice called out.
"I am sorry I am so late."
He stopped and bent forward, panting a little. Just how far did he run? Mauve wondered. She hoped it wasn’t the same distance she was expected to walk.
