The Vampire King's Possession
Chapter 337. Time To Go

Chapter 337: 337. Time To Go

Mauve chewed softly as she sat at the dining table for the last meal. The table was filled with more people than usual but one person wasn’t at the table and by the looks of things he won’t be joining them.

Even Haney was back, Mauve didn’t know when he returned to the castle but it was safe to assume it was sometime after the second meal as he didn’t join them.

Mauve watched Erick give the orders to the servant to start serving. Lord Levaton had a puzzled expression and even Lady looked worried.

"The Primus won’t be joining us?" Lord Levaton finally asked. He glanced from one of Jael’s personal guards to the other.

"I am afraid not." It was Danag who spoke, he looked like he had tried to do something about this but had failed woefully.

"Did something happen?" Jevera asked. "We haven’t seen him since we arrived." She sounded more worried than annoyed.

"Yeah about that. I don’t think it would be possible to see him tonight. Hopefully, tomorrow night will be different."

Mauve winced, tomorrow night would be different because she won’t be here. Surely, he wasn’t going through these great lengths just to avoid her.

"Did you inform him of my presence?" Lord Levaton asked.

"I did and he said to welcome you properly and give you whatever you may need. He is a bit tied up now but as soon as he can he will let you see him."

"Tied up? Where is he right now that he can’t spare a couple of minutes for the last meal? Seems a little odd."

Mauve nodded, it was a little unlike Jael. This was two meals in a roll. He always made sure to make the last meal of the day except something came up.

She couldn’t figure out what it could be and to be honest, she was starting to get worried. It didn’t help that Danag had a strange expression on his face.

"I don’t think he is at the castle right now. He said something about patrolling but I’m not sure. However, since he isn’t here, I can only imagine that what he had to do is of utmost importance. The Primus won’t take your visit for granted."

"I know, I am just concerned as this is unlike what he would do. Thanks for explaining the situation, Danag and do tell him, it is wrong to keep an old vampire waiting."

Danag forced a chuckle, "I shall inform him."

"Haney," Lord Lebanon called out. "Who would have thought that Garth would send you out here? I see you are doing a good job."

"Thank you, Your Lordship," Haney replied, bowing his head. "I didn’t know you were at the castle until I saw you walk through the dining door. I should have paid my respects before now. I just returned myself."

"You don’t have to worry about that."

"I hope the journey went smoothly. I hear you can’t travel as you used to."

Lord Levaton cussed, "You all should stop spreading that awful rumor. Thanks for your concern but I assure you I can travel."

"I apologize for the insensitive words. You look to be in great health, Your Lordship."

"Indeed. How’s your father Corbin?"

Corbin looked startled for a couple seconds as if he had not heard Lord Levaton. "Very fine. He was here a few nights ago."

"Oh okay," Levaton nodded and then frowned. "Did something happen to your face?"

"A slight injury," he said and turned his head away.

"I hope it gets healed quickly," Levaton said with a strange expression.

"Thanks," she mumbled to the servant and they served out her food.

He picked up his cutlery and started to eat, Mauve could immediately tell the pleasantries were over as everyone started to eat.

"Lord Levaton," a shrill voice suddenly called out. "I am Lord Otis Sage," he announced proudly. "I don’t think we have officially met."

"I wouldn’t phrase it like that. I didn’t think Seraphino would send you." Lord Levaton said, raising his head.

"We all want the Paler situation to be dealt with as soon as possible. It is only expected that best hands be set out for this expedition." Otis announced proudly.

"True but you’re his very best hand, aren’t you? Seraphino doesn’t even let you leave his castle and now he sends you all the way here..." Lord Levaton paused and looked at Otis from the corner of his eyes. "I’ll say that’s pretty odd."

"I don’t understand what you’re hinting at, Lord Levaton." Otis’ voice had dropped a few notches and Mauve could see the anger in his eyes.

"Don’t take it the wrong way," Lord Levaton said with a sly smile, keeping his gaze on the food. "I simply meant, I didn’t think a day would come when Seraphino would be so cooperative. We might have more of a chance at this than we thought."

He raised his head to properly look at Otis with a bright face but the vampire wasn’t amused. Mauve could see why. Lord Levaton clearly didn’t trust him.

"We sure do, it has always been hard to deal with Palers because of how hard it is to kill them and since we can’t walk under the sun too, that makes it even harder. However, with The Primus and Kieran making this miracle drug, we might finally have a chance. Irrespective of how headstrong My Lord Seraphino might seem, we all have one goal and that is the prosperity of vampires."

Lord Levaton nodded, "I am glad we are all on the same page. Let’s cooperate on this to make it work. I’ll expect you not to give us any problems."

Otis nodded and returned to his meal without saying another word. He looked a bit deflated.

Mauve didn’t know how to feel about the situation. She could see reasons why Lord Levaton didn’t trust Otis, however, she didn’t think he would be so upfront about it.

However, that was no concern of hers, she and other things to be worried about. Once this night was over, her time here was done.

"Mauve," Mill called to her.

She slowly turned her head, "Yes."

Mill was looking at her with a piercing gaze as if she was trying to figure out what was going on in Mauve’s head.

"How’s the food?"

Mauve grinned at her, "Just right."

"Okay, let me know if you need anything."

Mauve nodded and turned away from Mill to see Jevera staring at her from the other side of the table, she looked away.

She was certain the red haired vampire had some suspicions but she refused to show any hint of it. Trying to keep her face as neutral as possible.

Mauve adjusted herself on Jael’s bed as she closed her to sleep. Was this a good idea? Should we have remained in her room?

However, she was concerned that she wouldn’t see Jael otherwise and she wanted to see him.

Besides, her room was empty and she hasn’t slept there in a long time except to take naps. She adjusted in the covers, trying to get as comfortably as she possibly could.

She knew she wouldn’t fall asleep easily and even if she did, the fact that she wanted to see him would probably keep her body partially awake.

She looked up to the dark ceiling, the room was dark except for the candlelight on the table. It wasn’t even bright enough to illuminate the bed side, let alone let her know who was coming into the room.

Not that it mattered, she was fine lying in the dark. She was never really scared of it but now she could say she was used to it. Being around vampires would do that to you. She chuckled to herself.

"Mauve," a familiar voice called to her. Pulling her out of her drowsy state.

Mauve rolled on her side, her brain not wanting to wake up. She had only just fallen asleep, she didn’t want to open her eyes again.

"Mauve," the voice called again.

This time a part of her brain woke up and she remembered why she had taken so long to fall asleep. "Jael," she called, sitting upright immediately.

She opened her eyes to see Mill looking at her with a sad expression.

"I am afraid it’s just me, Mauve."

"Oh," she said, rubbing her eyes as she tried to hide her disappointment. "What time is it?

"The sun set about twenty minutes ago. Danag said it would be better to start the journey as soon as possible."

"Oh, right. What about Jael?" The question clogged her throat and she had to force it out.

"I don’t know, Danag didn’t mention anything about the Primus. You would have to ask him yourself."

Mauve nodded, "Thanks," she said and started to get out of bed.

She knew even before she had fallen asleep that Jael wouldn’t be coming to join her on his bed, it still didn’t stop it from hurting.
