The Vampire King's Possession -
Chapter 336. A Fake Win
Chapter 336: 336. A Fake Win
"Lord Levaton and Lady Jevera," the guards said simultaneously as they bowed their heads.
Mauve swallowed as she watched them step into the castle. She didn’t know how to react or what to do but she was sure horror was written on her face.
Was this a dark joke? She was to leave tomorrow night and here was Jevera walking into the castle. Mauve winced at the thought of Jevera in the castle while she was away.
Her stomach knotted and she sank into the drowning waters of jealousy. If she thought leaving Jael felt awful, it didn’t compare to how she felt now.
She could swear someone ripped her heart out of her chest, crushed it, and scattered it across the earth, leaving her with a gaping hole, an open wound, and instead of patching her up, they poured salt all over it.
Mill cussed and took a step forward, "Lord Levaton, Lady Jevera. To what do we owe the pleasure?" She said with a sweet smile.
They were accompanied by several guards. Two of them simultaneously helped the Lord and Lady out of their coats.
"Mill," he said. "I didn’t think you’d be the one to greet me. How’s your brother?"
Mauve felt herself stiffen at Jevera’s gaze. The vampire was looking at her with eyes that made Mauve uneasy. Mauve didn’t hold the gaze, she couldn’t. She was afraid she would see the vampire’s warning glaring at her.
"He is very well, thank you," Mill responded with a frown, Mauve also found his diversion a bit annoying.
Why were they here truly? Did Jael send for Jevera? If he did, that was a little too fast even she didn’t find out she was going to be sent off until a few hours ago.
Unless this was part of his plan and he needed something to send her off. Mauve shook her head, that was too much thinking but at this point, what else could she do?
"That’s good. Princess," Lord Levaton called out, turning his gaze to her. His piercing gaze made her shuffle on her feet, her body alert. "I see you are still here."
Mauve nodded, not knowing what to say. They would find out sooner or later but she hoped it was later. At least this told her Jael wasn’t the one who called them here.
"I heard you were attacked by a Paler, I’m glad you’re safe."
"Thank you," she replied. Lord Levaton threw her off, she was never sure how he truly felt about her.
One minute he was condescending toward her, the other minute, he acted like he didn’t hate her. It was a bit annoying to deal with but somehow she didn’t hate it but it did put her on edge around him.
"Where is the Primus?" He asked no one in particular
"He should be in the study," Mill replied.
"Do inform him of my presence..."
"Lord Levaton," Danag called out, appearing from the corner of the castle, the direction that led to the kitchen.
He sounded surprised to see the Lord, this gave Mauve more assurance. It didn’t improve her situation since she was still leaving but at least it didn’t look like he was moving on even before she left.
"Danag," The Lord responded, turning his entire frame to look in Danag’s direction.
Danag picked up the pace. "To what do we owe the pleasure that you traveled all the way from Levaton Estate? You should have sent a letter or better still, you could have requested for me, if it was so important. I wouldn’t have minded making the trip to the Estate."
"That’s too much trouble. Besides, I needed to leave my house, I never go anywhere. You all think I am too old to travel." He chuckled.
"I would never call you too old, Lord Levaton, and welcome to the castle once again, Lady Jevera."
"Thank you, Danag. It’s good to be back."
Mauve winced at the way Jevera phrased her words. Something told her this wasn’t a day’s visit.
"The servants will lead you to your room, I will inform the Primus of your presence. However, I am afraid he is quite busy right now and might not be able to see you until later."
"That would be preferred, after a journey like that I would need more than a few minutes to freshen up."
"Father," Lady Jevera called out, the worry in her voice imminent. "That’s why I told you not to run so fast."
"Enough whining Jevera, there is no need to underestimate me. I am not that weak but there is nothing wrong with getting more rest."
"If you insist, father, but do tell me if something is wrong."
"I hear you, you don’t have to treat me like I would break at any moment."
Mauve took a deep breath. She already knew this but it was still annoying to see why Jevera was a better match. So this was what a proper father-daughter relationship looked like.
She would see her father soon enough and it would be nothing like this, it had never been anything like this.
"Princess," he called.
Mauve jumped slightly, she had not expected he would call her again. "Yes."
"I guess I will see you later." He smiled at her, she got a glimpse of his teeth, they were unusually white.
"Yes, of course," she replied, sounding more confident than she felt. "Do get enough rest."
"I will try," he said as he went past her, following behind a servant.
"Lady Jevera," she said when the red-haired vampire came close enough. "Welcome." She didn’t look into her eyes nor did she bend her head.
Lady Jevera sized her up, "Have you been crying?" She asked with a snarky tone.
Mauve wasn’t sure which was more shocking: the fact that the vampire saw right through her or the fact that she even responded.
Mauve didn’t falter, "I didn’t get enough sleep."
"Really?" The vampire said with a smirk. "Something tells me things are about to get interesting."
Mauve felt Mill squeeze her hand lightly, it was more than enough to keep the tears at bay and she was grateful for that.
"Whatever do you mean?" She asked sweetly. She was going to keep up the act for as long as she could.
Jevera scoffed, "Good to see you again, Mill, and send Yasmin to my room."
"I am afraid that would not be possible. She is busy on The Primus’ orders," Mill said without hesitation, her tone was filled with contempt.
Lady Jevera arched her head, "Busy doing what?"
"Sewing Mauve’s new dresses. I will send a different servant to you, bear with that for now. As soon as she is less busy, I will send her to you."
Mauve couldn’t help the satisfaction that coursed through her, even though it was a fake win, it was still a win and she would take it.
Lady Jevera looked horrified. Her expression quickly changed back to normal.
"Well then I expect them in my room immediately," she said and turned away but not before Mauve saw the look on her face.
"Thank you," Mauve said when they were alone again. "But you didn’t have to do that. I’ll be gone by tomorrow."
"I know," Mill said with a sigh. "But I couldn’t help it. Seeing her look down her nose at you like that pissed me off. You shouldn’t have to go through that, not after everything you have been through."
Mauve grinned, "I didn’t hate it. I am a little glad, I wouldn’t have been able to say anything in return."
"You should. She wouldn’t be able to do anything about it. No one would dare hurt you."
Mauve smiled, she wasn’t worried about getting hurt. "Thanks, Mill." However, she has to admit it was nice to see someone fight for her and urge her to fight on.
She would definitely miss the vampire. At first, she had simply thought the vampire was doing her duty and didn’t care about her as a person but that has changed drastically.
"We should go," Mill said, leading her to the door.
"No," Mauve said. She was drained and she would probably be too lost in thought to concentrate. It was her last night here, it was best to have fewer memories so this would be over with quickly.
"I suddenly feel very tired," she continued. "Do you think we could go back to my room? I have a long journey ahead of me tomorrow night. It would be best if I got enough rest."
Mill looked at her with sad eyes and Mill thought the vampire would argue but she simply nodded. "I will follow you to your room."
She nodded and followed after the vampire as she pulled her up the stairs. They got to her room and Mauve immediately threw herself on the bed. The tears were already flowing before she lay down.
"Let me know if you need anything. I will get it for you."
"I am fine, thank you." She was sure Mill could hear she was crying.
"Do you need me to stay, Mauve?"
She shook her head, "I will be fine."
