The Vampire King's Possession
Chapter 335. Vibrant Red

Chapter 335: 335. Vibrant Red

Mauve looked down the rooftop, she was leaning on the fence around the rooftop that prevented her from falling off the roof.

Mauve chuckled as she leaned on it. She was getting courageous, months ago she wouldn’t even go near the edge.

She tried to look straight down but she couldn’t see anything. It was too dark to see what was at the foot of the castle.

She could hear voices and she could tell vampires were around but couldn’t really see them. They were currently working on the other side so that was expected.

Mauve pulled away from the edge and turned around to look at the garden. To think this was the last time she was going to see this scenery.

She shook her head, it was hard to think this was it. She still refused to believe she wouldn’t be able to come back here but it was too late to think about that now.

She didn’t really have any particular reason to come up here but she didn’t want to be in her room. Mill was busy with the servants trying to pack, she didn’t want to be in the way.

She touched the nearest plant, it was a shrub. Mauve rubbed the rough edges, she still didn’t get around to trimming the flowers and plants that needed it.

There was no need for that now, she would be gone before this time tomorrow. She gave the garden one last look. She was proud of it.

In less than six months, she did have a functional garden. She wondered what would happen to it when she left. She could take a guess.

According to Jael, his mother used to have a garden here too and after her death, it had fallen to ruin. Mauve could see the same fate for her flowers.

"I am sorry," she whispered. "Maybe, I should have stayed."

She could feel the incoming tears and she turned away. If she started crying again, she doubted she would be able to stop.

Mauve headed for the door leading back into the castle. Mack was at the end of the stairs when she got out.

"You’re done?" He asked, his face a constant sneer.

"Yeah," she replied.

"Tch! Why did you drag me here if it was going to be a quick check? Any guard would have sufficed."

Mauve simply walked past him. Why was he taking his annoyance at her? Like she would ever request for him. If he was irritated, he should take it up with his sister, she had bigger concerns than care about anyone else’s feelings.

She got to the stairs and turned around to see he was right beside her. He didn’t say a word as she stopped suddenly just looked at her. She turned away and continued down the stairs.

Mack followed her until they got to the front of her room. Mauve pushed the door open and Mack remained by the entrance of the open door.

"Mauve, I was just coming to join you. What happened? You’re back a little early." She turned to her brother and glared at him.

"What? She is the one that wanted to leave," he replied.

"Are you sure? Considering how annoyed you were about watching her, I won’t put it past you to try to sabotage."

"Give me a break, Mill. You called me out of my duty for this."

"It’s fine, Mill. I wanted to leave early. I just wanted to see the flowers and plants. It was nothing serious, I didn’t really plan to do anything."

Mill’s face softened as she turned to Mauve, "Is everything alright?"

Mauve nodded, nothing really held any appeal for her right now. There were still a few hours before the last meal.

Jael hadn’t been at the second meal, there was no surprise there. He might not even be at the last meal. She wasn’t going to put any hope on this.

She was trying to be as nonchalant about this as possible but she was failing woefully. The good news was she had cried so much it was much harder to cry now.

"Can I leave now?" He asked impatiently.

Mill turned to him and narrowed her eyes. "No, I need you to stand guard outside the door."

"What? Why? I have things to do, unlike you, I’m actually part of the special squad."

Mill sneered at him, "Whatever, get out of here but don’t go too far, in case I need you again."

"Call somebody else," he said as he walked away.

The door shut and Mill returned her gaze to Mauve. "I hope he didn’t cause you any trouble."

"No," she shook her head as she walked to the bed.

Mauve blinked, she was probably out for like thirty minutes or thereabout but her wardrobe was empty and she could see the bags stacked on the corner.

She winced, the room wasn’t as bare as she thought it would be, and she wasn’t sure if that was a good thing or not. Somehow, it made her feel she could be easily replaced.

The servants kept on with their tasks, paying them no mind. She dropped onto the bed and Mill sat next to her.

"Sorry, I couldn’t go with you. I wanted to oversee this."

"It’s fine," Mauve replied as she rested her head on the vampire’s arm as they both stared forward.

"Would you like something to eat? I could get you snacks."

Mauve shook her head, "I am fine."

She was sure she didn’t have any appetite, she was surprised she had been able to eat half of her share of the second meal.

Mill grabbed Mauve’s palm and squeezed, "If you need anything, let me know."

Mauve could only nod. Thankfully, the vampire hasn’t brought up the topic since then and Mauve was grateful for that but the incessant checking-up was worrisome.

However, Mauve knew it was Mill’s way of comforting her and she was glad she had this. She smiled and pulled her head from Mill’s arm.

"Do you think you could go outside the castle with me?" She asked.

Mill blinked as she turned to look at Mauve, "You want to go outside?"

She nodded, "It would certainly be better than sulking in my room. Technically, this is only going to be my room for the remainder of the night. By tomorrow night..."

"Mauve," Mill called sternly. "Don’t be like that."

"You’re probably right," she said and flipped her hair. "It wouldn’t do me any good to dwell on such things."

"It would still be your room..."

"I appreciate the optimism, Mill but I’d rather deal with reality than lie to myself." She smiled at Mill but the smile didn’t reach her eyes.

Mauve winced at the sad look Mill gave her, she really was pitiful. She sighed. All that crying had cleared her head, it was time to get together.

After dealing with people who didn’t want her, she knew it was worse to mope around and think the situation would change. It would only be more heartbreaking and disappointing when it didn’t.

"You can handle the rest here, right?" Mill said to no one in particular.

"Yes, Miss Mill," One of the servants responded. She had a soft voice and her bright eyes stood out in her features.

"Shall we?" Mill stretched out her hand and Mauve took it.

The vampire stood to her feet pulling Mauve upward. With her hand still clasped around Mauve’s palm, she headed for the door.

"Anywhere you want to go particularly?" Mill asked.

Mauve shook her head, "I don’t really know the geography outside of the castle."

"I guess, you could call it a tour then."

"I doubt it, my eyesight isn’t as good as yours. You don’t have to stress, I just want to step out for a couple of minutes, give myself something to distract me."

"You can leave the distraction to me," Mill announced proudly.

Mauve simply nodded as they went down the stairs. She was hoping she would run into Jael or something like that.

She was pathetic even after everything that transpired, she still wanted to see him. A part of her was hoping this could be resolved but thankfully, the logical part of her was taking the lead.

As they got to the end of the stairs Mauve and Mill stopped in their tracks as the huge castle doors were thrown open.

Mauve frowned, they weren’t close enough yet, it could only mean someone was coming in. Mauve stared hard trying to see.

A vampire walked in through the doors, his steps slow. Mauve felt Mill stiffen up and her grip around her palm tightened.

At the same time, Mauve recognized the figure coming in. However, he wasn’t the one who held her attention; rather it was the redhead behind him.

The vibrant red color was something she could never forget. Mauve felt her blood drain out her feet and her heart fell to her stomach.

She could have sworn this situation couldn’t get any worse but here was life smacking her in the face to remind her just how worse it could get.
