The Vampire King's Possession -
Chapter 330. Breathlessness
Chapter 330: 330. Breathlessness
"I wouldn’t say it’s a fight."
"What then would you call it?"
"A slight disagreement," she hoped, it was obvious that this wasn’t like their other issues.
"Well, I do hope it is figured out soon," Mill whispered as she washed Mauve’s hair.
"Yeah, me too," Mauve replied, her voice dropped to a whisper.
She half expected Mill to ask for more details but the vampire didn’t say more on the matter. Mauve was a bit grateful for this, she knew she was currently at the point where she would say something she shouldn’t.
She got into the dining hall to see Jael already seated. For someone who was supposedly busy, he did have time to show up early.
She ignored him completely and went to take her seat. The servants were currently putting out the first meal.
She took her seat and inspected the plate set in front of her. She was hungry but considering her mood, she wondered if she would be able to eat.
"Did you sleep well?" She heard Jael casually speak to her as she dug into her meal.
The spoon slipped out of her hand as she jerked in shock. It made a loud sound as it hit the plate, Mauve was grateful it didn’t roll to the ground. That would have been embarrassing.
She picked up the spoon and said, "Mostly," without looking at Jael.
She scooped the soup and brought it to her lips. It was a bit spicy but nothing too hot. She rolled the taste around her tongue savoring it.
"I see," he replied,
Mauve didn’t add anything more, she had not expected him to speak to her and if he thought giving her permission to go out was enough to forgive him for ignoring her, he was dreaming.
"Sire," Danag suddenly called. "Haney should be returning tonight. I already sent out the guards he would need to help in transporting the iron."
"Good," Jael responded.
"As much as I like the training we have been doing since I got here, I would really like some fieldwork," Corbin said to Danag after a few minutes passed.
Danag raised his head to reply but just as he was about to speak, someone spoke over him.
"I think it’s best if you concentrate on getting better first. With a face like that dealing with Palers should be the least of your worries," Erick snickered.
Corbin immediately looked embarrassed and bent his head. "I am sure my face doesn’t affect my skill."
"I am sure," Danag said gently. "But I’d prefer you be in pristine condition before throwing you out in the wild."
"I understand," Corbin responded while Otis snorted.
"Is there something you’d like to say?" Danag asked.
"What?" Otis lifted his head, feigning surprise.
"Is there anything you’d like to say?" Danag repeated without blinking.
"Of course not. This soup is delicious."
Danag squinted his eyes at him and turned his gaze away. Mauve looked from one of them to the other. Otis did know how to get under people’s skin and piss them off.
She returned her gaze to Danag, she hoped the vampire wasn’t causing any trouble. He was obviously a handful and Mauve prayed there would never be any reason for them to be together for a long period.
She had already started to hate his guts and his constant need to nitpick and start something up. There was also the fact that she was sure he hated her now.
He still ignored her which she was grateful for but there were a few times his gaze would pass across her face and Mauve could see it darken.
She finished her meal without saying a word after Jael spoke to her and with a soft curtsey, made her way out of the dining hall without glancing in Jael’s direction.
Mill literally had to rush after her to keep up with her pace. The guards opened the door for them and they both headed for the stairs.
Mill led the way, cautious of Mauve’s every step. She was a little annoyed by the fussing but she didn’t complain.
"Would you like to go to the rooftop?" Mill offered as they got to the top of the stairs.
Mauve shook her head, "You did say Yasmin was going to bring the dress for me to try on." She didn’t stop walking but rather continued in the direction of her room.
"Oh yes, but it doesn’t have to be right now if you don’t feel like it," Mill replied, going after Mauve
She reached the front of her door before Mauve and pushed open the door. She held it for Mauve to go in and followed in after her.
"You know you don’t have to do that. I can open the door myself."
Mill shrugged, "It’s no problem, really."
"Thank you," Mauve said and walked straight to her bed. She sat on it and bent her head a little.
"I guess, I will go get Yasmin. Please don’t leave your room, I will be right back."
"Take your time," Mauve replied and threw herself backward. The bed bounced a little as her weight dropped onto it.
"Okay," Mill returned and headed for the door.
"Mill," she called suddenly and the vampire stopped.
She turned around retracting her steps, "Yes."
"I know I should have said it last night but somehow it escaped my mind. I am sorry Otis spoke to you in that manner because of me."
Mill narrowed her eyes, "It’s no fault of yours. You shouldn’t be the one apologizing to me. Besides, compared to Otis, I’ll pick your opinions in the blink of an eye. The last thing I care about is what Lords think about me."
Mauve smiled softly, "Still, it wouldn’t have happened if you were taking care of a vampire and not me."
Mill narrowed her eyes, "You have seen Otis, I assure you such don’t matter to him. You shouldn’t let a vampire like him get to you."
Mauve nodded, smiling at Mill. She tried to believe Mill’s words but she would be lying if she said the gap between them wasn’t glaring more than ever.
"I will go get Yasmin."
Mauve nodded and turned her gaze away from Mill to the ceiling. She closed her eyes and tried to clear her mind.
Mill returned with Yasmin less than two minutes later. Mauve could only wonder how they got here so fast.
Mill walked into the room holding the lilac-colored dress while Yasmin held the livid-colored dress. Mauve immediately sat upright as she tried to get a closer look.
"Yasmin," she called but her gaze never reached the vampire’s face.
"Mauve," the vampire said in response but there was no change in her expression, only a blank stare.
"She fixed the dress," Mill said and raised it for Mauve to say. "She is concerned it might be a little snug as she had to make some adjustments but try it on first before we conclude."
"Okay," Mauve said as she stood to her feet.
Mill moved quickly, helping her out of her dress and putting her into the new one. Mauve held her breath as Mill tightened the ropes. The vampire was right, it was tighter.
"Too tight?" She asked as if sensing her discomfort.
"A little but that might be because I just ate," Mauve quickly added.
"If it’s too tight, she can try to make some adjustments."
"I wouldn’t say it’s too tight, it’s just a little more snug than I am used to."
"I like it like this," Yasmin commented. "It brings out your shape more."
Mauve smiled tightly, she could swear she was starting to get light-headed. Forget being snatched, if she couldn’t breathe how would she survive?
Mill suddenly burst out laughing, "I doubt she can get any air into her lungs. I vote that some adjustments be made."
Yasmin frowned slightly, worry etched on her face.
"Can it not be done?" Mauve asked.
"That’s not the case, I had to take out some material to fix the rip that’s why it’s a bit snug. I’m not sure I can make it as loose as you would want."
Mauve spun in front of the mirror, she had to admit that Yasmin did a pretty good job, she could barely see where the tear was.
"But you can make it loose, just not as much as she wants?" Mill asked while staring intensely at Yasmin.
"Yes, yes. I can try to make it less tight, definitely."
"I think I would be fine with anything as long as it’s not as tight as this," Mauve said with a long sigh.
How does anyone walk around with a dress this tight? It didn’t feel like she could get any air in her lungs right now. She was basically gasping for air at this point.
"Could you help me out of this dress, Mill?" She asked as she moved closer to the vampire.
"Of course. Ready to try on the new dress?"
Mauve nodded, she would be lying if she said she wasn’t excited. She hoped it wasn’t too tight, not that it mattered for that dress she would bear the breathlessness.
