The Vampire King's Possession
Chapter 331. Prisoner

Chapter 331: 331. Prisoner

Mauve spun as she stared into the mirror. The dress hung to her slim figure but not in a way that was uncomfortable, it rested comfortably on her skin, the soft material was easy to carry around, Mauve knew she would have a hard time taking it off.

The neck hung low but it wasn’t anything she wasn’t used to and the sleeves started right at the edge of her shoulders, giving the neckline a square cut.

"What do you think about it?" Yasmin asked impatiently when she just stared at the mirror without saying anything.

She turned to the vampire with a bright look on her face, "I love it, it’s so pretty." She spun again, enjoying the flay of the dress.

Yasmin’s expression relaxed, "There is nothing you’d like me to change?"

"Change?" Mauve asked in horror. "I don’t even want to take it off."

She wrapped her arms around her body, clinging to the dress. Yasmin was right, the color did match very well with her skin tone. Even the dim candlelight didn’t hide this.

"Unfortunately," Mill chipped in with a chuckle. "You have to take it off."

"I know," she pouted a little. "But this is so lovely," she spun again.

"Careful, you don’t want to get dizzy," Mill warned.

"I won’t," she grinned but Mauve knew it was high time she stopped spinning.

"I guess that’s one dress done," Yasmin said.

"I suppose," Mauve said with glee.

"Well, then I will get to working on the rest and fixing that dress."

Mill had placed it on the bed and as Yasmin pointed to it, Mill handed it to her.

"Thank you," she said to Mill as she accepted the dress. Turning to Mauve she said, "I will get this fixed in a few minutes, please wait, I will be right back."

Mauve gasped, "That fast?"

"Yes, I just have to fix the sides. It shouldn’t take that long."

"Thank you," Mauve replied.

Yasmin didn’t reply, just turned and walked to the door.

"Now let’s get you out of this dress and into your old one," Mill said as the door closed.

"Nooo," Mauve let out a mock scream.

Yasmin was right, it didn’t take her a long time to fix the dress and she was back before Mauve could get bored of waiting.

Mill helped her try it on and it was much better. It wasn’t as comfortable as the livid colored dress but it was definitely an improvement. She would be able to move around in the dress without any issues.

Mill left her room as soon as dress-up was over. "Don’t hesitate to call me if you need anything," the vampire said as she slipped out the door.

Mauve waved her away and was still staring at the closed door even after Mill left. She knew what she had to do but now that the time was closer, it was a lot harder to.

She sighed and slowly got to her feet. If she didn’t address this, it would probably stretch out more than it needed to.

She walked out of her door and approached his study with caution, she just wanted to talk this out. Better now than later, besides, he spoke to her during the first meal. Maybe he could see reason now or at least they could just talk about it.

Mauve knocked once, twice, and a third time. She shuffled on her feet as she waited for a response or he wasn’t in the study?

She looked around wondering if she should leave or wait a couple minutes. If he wasn’t in there then he was probably outside and she didn’t want to interrupt.

This could wait but it was best to deal with it now that she wanted to, if it dragged out, it would be easier to let it go and harder to address.

"Come in," Jael’s voice called out, she could easily tell he wasn’t pleased about this.

She opened the door and immediately heard, "Come back later as you can see, I am a little busy."

Mauve raised her head and squinted her eyes as she fought to see into his study. She could see Danag sitting across from Jael and it did look like they were discussing important matters."

"Oh," she said and brought her hand to her chest. "I didn’t know, I guess I will just come back later."

"There is no need for that," Danag said and stood to his feet. "I will come back later. Besides, I was just about done here. I need to check on the recruits." He smiled at her as he walked away from the table.

Mauve could see Jael’s expression change behind Danag but surprisingly, he didn’t say anything.

"Thank you," she whispered as he passed her. He walked out of the open door and closed it behind him.

Mauve slowly turned her gaze back to Jael, his eyes met her and then he brought it down. She could see his hand moving as he scribbled something, most likely writing another letter.

She swallowed and took a step forward, the air suddenly felt so tight and each step was a hassle. She stopped in front of him and stood.

"I hear Yasmin is done with a dress," he said without raising his head.

Mauve nodded quickly, a soft frown on her face as she wondered how he would have found out so fast, Yasmin literally just left her a few minutes ago.

"I see," he said and stopped writing, raising his head to look at her.

Mauve watched him lick off the blood on his finger and held her breath. She never really asked but she was sure that must be a little painful.

"Now what can I help you with?" He asked, his gaze a little intense, and for a second she wondered if she shouldn’t ask what she wanted to but rather turn around and leave.

She stiffened her resolve and took a step forward, "You seem awfully busy recently."

"Yeah, there are a lot of things to do and put in place."

"Is that so? But you used to spend some time with me before now."

"I guess, I will see what I can do about that. Is that all?" He asked darkly.

Mauve didn’t know what set her off. It could be his tone or the way he stared or his attitude at her as if daring her to bring it up, she wasn’t sure but something did set her off.

"Are you avoiding me because of my father’s letter?" She asked, stepping forward. She stopped just in front of the table.

Mauve watched Jael’s eyes darken at her question. His expression, however, didn’t change but his eyes alone were enough to tell her she was treading where she shouldn’t.

"Are you that against me leaving?"

"I am not," he said emotionlessly. "I told you it was dangerous."

"I am sure something can be done."

Jael frowned, "I’d rather not put the lives of my men in danger simply because your father wants a visit."

Why was he making a big deal out of this? Why was he lying to her face? Danag said they could get her out of the Nolands without any issue or was Danag lying? He didn’t have any reason to.

"You can make an exception," she tried again. "I just need to get out of the Nolands, my father said he would take care of everything else."

"The danger is in the Nolands, don’t act like he is making a sacrifice."

Mauve blinked, "I didn’t say he was, I am just trying to find a middle ground here."

"There is no middle ground. Your father is making an absurd request that I am afraid I can’t grant."

"Why not?!" Mauve asked darkly, there was a bitter taste in her mouth and at this point she wasn’t sure if it was her anger or the tears in her eyes that was making her vision blurry.

"I am sure I already gave you a good enough reason, Mauve. This conversation is over, I am quite busy as I have mentioned earlier."

"Am I a prisoner here?" She asked suddenly, stamping her hand on the table.

Jael looked taken aback.

"Was there never a chance for me to go back? The moment I got here, I was never going to see Greenham again," she said. Mauve could feel the anger seeping out her pores.

If her father was a good father and perhaps marrying the vampire was the only option they had. Would she have never had the chance to see him? Was that why this meant?

Did she already sign her life away and if what she wanted wasn’t in line with what Jael wanted, it was completely out of the question.

Jael’s brows dipped and Mauve immediately felt cold. She could tell he didn’t like her response but not only that, he was likely to say something she didn’t want to hear. Something that would likely escalate the fight.
