The Vampire King's Possession -
Chapter 326. Damon, Danag and Erick
Chapter 326: 326. Damon, Danag and Erick
Danag pushed the door to hear Jael’s yelling, "What part of ’throw out the letter’ did you not understand, Erick?"
"I don’t understand what you are asking about. What letter?"
They both simultaneously turned to the door as Danag threw it open. Without staring more than a glance at him. Jael gestured for him to come in.
"Don’t play dumb with me!"
Danag stepped in carefully and closed the door behind him. He walked closer but didn’t get too close before stopping. Jael was obviously in a terrible mood, he didn’t want that directed at him.
"I promise, I am not, Sire. I truly do not know what letter you’re referring to. We have received a lot of letters recently," he said and looked to Danag for help but the vampire kept his gaze straight.
"The letter from the human king!" Jael turned to Danag, "And where is Damon and why are you late?"
"I truly apologize, Sire. I was in the middle of training and I thought you might be in Mauve’s room which delayed me a little." He bowed his head. "Damon on the other hand should be here very soon. Whatever the issue is, I am sure we can solve it."
A soft knock was heard at the end of his words and the door was thrown open. "Your Grace, you called?"
Damon frowned as he took in the atmosphere, he glanced at Erick and Danag before returning his gaze to Jael.
"Sire," Erick said, drawing the attention back to himself. "I threw out the letter as you had requested. We received two other letters and I also threw them out without reading the contents."
"Then explain how it found itself on my table," Jael said darkly, glaring at them.
"That I do not know, I apologize for not having the answer but I truly don’t know."
Jael narrowed his eyes as he stared at Erick. It was obvious he didn’t believe the vampire.
"Danag!" He called looking away from Erick. "What do you know about this?"
"I didn’t even know the human king sent another letter."
"Were you all aware of the content of the letter and you didn’t think to warn me."
"We tried to, Sire but you didn’t want to hear anything about it." Erick tried to explain.
"It doesn’t explain how it ended up on my table!" Jael’s eyes flickered and it looked like Erick flinched.
"I apologize about that, Sire and it was an oversight on our path. We wholly apologize for this and we will get rid of the letter immediately. This mistake won’t happen again," Danag quickly said, trying to de-?escalate
"It doesn’t matter," Jael replied, sounding like a grumpy child. His gaze darkened, "The mistake has already been made and you can’t always correct every mistake."
"I apologize for how it may sound but we just have to throw the letter out one more time, I don’t understand how this mistake cannot be fixed."
"One more word from your lips and I can assure you it won’t end well for you."
Danag bowed his head really low and kept his lips sealed. The silence dragged on and just became this uncomfortable cloak over them.
Erick shuffled on his feet, his eyes darting back and forth. One could clearly see the worry and fear in his eyes. Damon just stood unmoving while Danag kept his head bowed.
"Get out! All of you get out!" Jael yelled.
Damon moved first, reaching the door in two strides. Erick followed next scrambling to reach the door like his life depended on it. Danag didn’t rush out like the rest but raised his head to look at Jael.
"I said get out, Danag!" Jael said as he covered his face with his palm.
"I will, I don’t fully understand the situation but please know that we are here to help and in any way we can correct this, we will do everything in our power to fix it."
"Shut up and get out. If you wanted to help in the first place that letter should have never gotten into these castle walls."
Danag bowed again and walked out the open door where Damon and Erick were standing by the entrance staring into the study. He walked out and closed the door behind him.
"Do you have any idea what that was about? I thought I was going to be punished or banished from the castle or much worse. I have never seen the Primus like that before."
"Shut up, Erick! We are still in front of the study room. If you’re going to make an outburst like that, do it away from here," Damon scolded.
"What the hell! Who do you think you are talking to in that..."
"Damon is right. We should move."
"It’s not like we are saying anything bad," Erick blurted out.
"However, it’s best not to say anything that would anger the Primus more than he already is," as Danag spoke, he walked toward the stairs and they followed after him.
It wasn’t until they got to the end that Damon said, "Mauve read the letter."
"What?" Erick asked.
"That’s the only explanation, if the Primus had been the one to see it he could have easily tossed it out. I can’t think of any other reason and considering the content of the letter, I can say it points in one direction."
"What? That doesn’t make any sense. You’re drawing your conclusion from where exactly?" Erick countered.
"No, he is right and not just that, I also think she wants to adhere to her father’s request," Danag explained, looking lost in thought.
"I don’t see how that’s a problem. It’s just a few days, we shouldn’t have any issues taking her right? I mean Palers are still a major problem but we have made it before, we can make it again."
"I am pretty sure his concern is more than the journey. I know you can be slow at times, Erick but to think you’re this slow, laughable." Damon said while staring down at him.
"You better watch your mouth, son of a servant!"
