Chapter 325. Danag’s Help
Chapter 325: 325. Danag’s Help
Mauve tried not to shed tears as she stomped to her room. She thought things had changed but she was still only allowed to do things he approved of. Their relationship would always remain like this, she taking orders from him.
She didn’t need to go back but seeing him being adamant about it, made her a little stubborn. It wasn’t even up for discussion. Didn’t her feelings matter?
He wasn’t willing to listen, she thought they were past this. She wasn’t someone who just listened. She had thoughts and wants of her own. It didn’t make sense that she only had to do what the other person wanted.
It wasn’t really a big deal and to be honest, there was nothing to go home to even her eldest brother Malcolm wasn’t enough to sweeten the deal.
He has been away from the castle for over a year now but their relationship wasn’t strong enough for her to miss him or want to see him.
She pushed the door to her room a little loudly, causing Mill to jerk at the sound. "I am so sorry," she said immediately. "I didn’t think anyone was here."
"It’s fine," Mill said, eyeing her oddly. "We were just rounding up here."
She turned to the servants who had their hands full with the cloths. "Take everything to Yasmin, she will show you where to store them."
"Yes, ma." They said with a soft bow and head for the door.
Mauve cleared a path for them so they could pass. She ignored them as they ignored her, she didn’t even have any energy to care.
The door closed and she walked further into the room. Without saying a word to Mill, she sat down on the bed.
"Did something happen?" Mill asked, her gaze more intense.
"No, why?" Mauve asked, turning her face away.
"You looked so happy the last time I saw you and now you look like you’re about to cry. To pretend there is nothing wrong would be to tell me my eyes need to changed out."
Mauve sighed, "It’s nothing serious, I am most likely just overreacting."
Mill’s eyes narrowed, "Is there anyone I need to threaten again?"
Mauve laughed and lifted her eyes to look at Mill, the thought of her threatening Jael was a bit hilarious. As much as she would pay good money to see that, she didn’t want to put the vampire in a tight spot.
"Nah, I am just a bit overwhelmed," she said with a small smile, hoping it was enough to fool Mill.
"Do you need some air?" She asked, her concerned voice was soothing.
She shook her head, "I just need to lie down for a while, I am really good."
Mill sighed, "If you insist but if you change your mind, you know where to find me."
"Yes, Mill," she said and lifted her legs off the bed, rolled on her side and closed her eyes.
"Okay then, I will leave you alone to get some rest. The second meal would be ready in about two hours, you should be able to get enough rest before then."
"Thank you, Mill."
"You’re welcome," she replied and headed for the door.
Mauve heard the door closed and opened her eyes, she looked toward the door and closed it again.
It didn’t help thinking about it, it only made her realize how helpless she was and dwelling on that would just make her feel more miserable.
Mauve frowned, someone was at the door. It couldn’t be Mill since she just left, she wouldn’t bother to knock before returning and even if she did, she wouldn’t wait for her response.
Another knock and she was certain it wasn’t Mill. Mauve ground her teeth, should she remain in bed or go check, maybe whoever it was would take the hint and leave.
Suddenly, the idea that it could be Yasmin rushed into her head and she flew out of the bed almost tripping on her dress.
She got to the door with her chest heaving and pulled the door open, realizing that she could have just told whoever it was to come in, instead of running to the door like a wild dog.
"Danag," she called with shock. "What are you doing here? Is something wrong?" She asked darting left and right.
"Sorry to bother you, I just thought the Primus would be here, he sent for me."
"Oh," she said. "He isn’t here, he should still be in his study."
"Alright, I will go check on him. I apologize for disturbing your rest, go back to it."
"It’s no trouble though, I am glad I could help." She smiled at him.
He nodded and turned away, moving in the direction of the study. She watched him go and Mauve’s mouth moved, she didn’t realize she was talking until she called out to him.
"Danag."
He turned immediately, a soft frown on his face. "Yes?"
"I-I was wondering..." her voice dried up as she realized that this was a bad idea. Maybe she should let this go.
"I am listening. If it’s anything you need I can get it for you or better still let the Primus know if there is an issue."
"No, no, no." She said waving her hands, the last thing she needed was for Jael to find out she was asking questions. "There is no need for that."
"Alright. What would you like me to do for you?" He said with a friendly face and a soft smile.
Mauve smiled back, compared to the rest of the Vampires, aside from Mill, Danag was the nicest to her and he had been nothing but helpful since she got here.
"I was wondering if I had to leave the vampire regions and out of the Nolands, would that be impossible and dangerous?"
Mauve saw Danag eyebrows raise slightly and then his face returned to a neutral expression. "Do you want to leave?" He asked, his expression changed.
"No, no, nothing of that. I was just curious. I-I..." Her voice dried out, there was no way to explain herself.
"I understand," he said with an understanding smile. "However, if you need to perhaps visit home for a while. I assure you it would cause us no trouble to get you out of the Nolands and home," he said with a soft smile.
"What about the Palers? Aren’t you quite busy? I understand training the recruits must be exhausting and time consuming. I couldn’t ask that, it is too dangerous."
"Yes, however, we have a way to deal with Palers now and even though the drug hasn’t circulated enough you can be assured of a safe trip. So do you want to go home for a while?" He asked.
"I was thinking about it but I don’t want to impose, I remember how difficult it was for us to get here and what happened to Damon."
"You don’t have to worry about that, Damon is in perfect health."
She nodded.
"Moreover," he continued. "The road has been fixed, having to transport blood every month led to that so you can be assured of a smooth journey."
"They fixed the road?" Mauve frowned.
This was the first time she had heard of it. She didn’t think that would be done. However, it didn’t make sense if they were going to make constant transportation to and fro from Greenham.
"I wouldn’t say fixed, more like broken down. It’s smoother now and the journey shouldn’t be as stressful." He told her.
"Thank you so much, Danag."
"You don’t have to thank me. Whatever I can do to help," he smiled.
She nodded and watched him leave before closing the door. She rested her head on the back of the closed door. Why did he lie to her?
If it was that easy for her to leave, why did he make it seem like such a big deal. Was she a prisoner here? Was it ridiculous that she wanted to leave?
She has never wanted to leave before but it wasn’t like she was completely against the idea. The first couple days she got here, if she knew she could leave she would have taken the offer in a heartbeat.
It has taken her a while to get used to how vampires did things and if it wasn’t that she didn’t have much of a choice it would have taken her longer.
It would be a lie if she said she didn’t sometimes miss what she was used to. However, it wasn’t was to the point of leaving.
Besides, it was just for a couple weeks, why was he adamant about this? It didn’t make any sense. Was she being ridiculous?
She was attacked by a Paler, does that mean she should hover and hide. Was she wrong about this?
Should she go back? It was weird for her father to call for her but it wouldn’t be even weirder if she didn’t want to go? Wouldn’t it be suspicious?
