Chapter 324. Come Home?

Chapter 324: 324. Come Home?

Jael tried not to show his anxiousness as Mauve bent over the letter, reading it. He could neither see the letter nor her expression as she read it.

The silence was so thick, the only thing he could fill his ears with was the beating of her heart. It wasn’t steady but it was fast enough to raise an alarm.

He has never been that patient so to sit still while she went through the letter was very hard for him. Especially since he didn’t know the contents.

Suddenly, she raised her head and turned to look at him, a hesitant smile on her face. "My father wants me to come home," she announced.

Jael felt his heart drop to his stomach, "What?" His eyes widened.

"Here read it, it’s just for a couple of weeks," she said and handed him the letter.

"Weeks?" Jael yelled out in horror.

"Just read it," she replied, putting it in his face.

Jael tried his very best not to snatch it from her hand and rip it pieces but she had already seen the contents there was really no need.

Evan wanted her to go back to the human kingdom. Jael had to hand it to Evan, he didn’t see that coming, and with the way Mauve looked as she handed him the letter, she didn’t think there was anything wrong with this.

Jael held her gaze for a while before he brought his head down and began to read the contents of the letters.

He did his very best to read the letter without letting how he truly felt show even though he wanted to punch something with every line.

Sending you out to the Vampires Region was one of the hardest things I have ever had to do and I almost regret it but it was for the betterment of our people and though I had to sacrifice my only daughter for this, it was for the greater good.

The kingdom is faring nicely and there have been no reports of anyone missing. This wouldn’t have been possible if I didn’t have an obedient daughter such as yourself who was willing to sacrifice herself for the good of the kingdom.

I should have sent a letter before now and I wholeheartedly apologize for that, however, there were a lot of repairs caused by the havoc vampires once wreaked on us, and that had needed my attention. I hope you will forgive your father.

I want you to come home, just for a couple of weeks. I miss you and I will give everything to see you again.

I know this is not enough reason but your eldest brother would be back in about a week. I am sure he would want to see you.

If you would fulfill an old man’s request, it would truly make me the happiest. Send a letter to let me know when you will be coming home and I shall put all the preparations in place.

I shall send a carriage to pick you up at the entrance of the Nolands and be rest assured that when the time comes for you to leave, I shall make sure you get back safely.

Your Father

Evan Grey

Jael winced at the sour taste at the back of his mouth. He was done reading the letter but he couldn’t raise his head.

Mauve was going to leave him, he could see the look in her eyes. However, it wasn’t her leaving that bothered him, it was if she was going to come back.

He didn’t know what Evan was planning but he could tell this wasn’t the end of it. He never cared about his daughter but now he wanted her home in a week’s time for that matter.

He didn’t know anything about her brothers but using one of them as leverage to get her running home was a low blow.

Somehow he knew if she left she wouldn’t come back. He had been to the human kingdom, it was nothing like the vampire regions. If he was human, he knew which he would prefer.

He slowly raised his head to look at her. "What do you want to do?" He asked gently even though he didn’t feel like that.

He could feel himself get angry, there was a loud ringing in his ear and the urge to punch something was becoming greater and greater.

"Well," she shrugged casually but there was nothing casual about the look in her eyes. "I thought I would go home, probably for about two..."

"Absolutely not!" Jael said, it came out a little harsher than he wanted it to but it was hard to keep his emotions in order.

"What? Jael? Why?"

"It’s too dangerous." He said darkly and crushed the letter in his hand.

He didn’t even realize what he was doing until he saw the look of horror on Mauve’s face. He placed the rumpled letter on the table.

"I know it is dangerous but I am sure there must be a way to go about it. I only need to get out of Nolands, my father said he would take care of the rest."

"I don’t have the guards to spare at this time as you can see we are busy dealing with Palers."

Her voice went quieter, "I understand but it can’t be that it’s completely not possible."

"It is and I don’t want to hear any more about this matter!"

The more this went on, the angrier he got. He couldn’t believe she was considering going back. Who sends their daughter to a place like this?

What happened to the part where she said she wouldn’t leave? He thought this was her home now so why does she want to leave?

Jael saw Mauve’s expression at his words and he felt like someone had stabbed him in his stomach. Her gaze held a mix of disappointment, horror, and sadness.

"I understand," she said and slowly stood from his legs. "I will let you get back to your work."

She arranged his present on his legs and headed for the door. Jael wanted to call out to her but he knew the only way to fix this would take too much from him.
