The Vampire King's Possession
Chapter 304. Little Inconvenience (Part 2)

Chapter 304: 304. Little Inconvenience (Part 2)

A loud screech pierced the air. Jael brought his fingers to his ears and blocked his ear holes.

"Turn it off!" Erick yelled.

The screeching seized and Evan heaved. His chest lifted, and his loud breaths echoed in the room.

"What are you doing here? You can’t do this. We have an alliance." He blurted out, his body shaking with every word.

Jael groaned and ran his hand through his hair, this was even less fun. He had expected Evan to have some backbone instead of being a terrified mess.

Sobs were coming from the group of people the guards had brought into the room, they were hunched up in the corner on their knees.

The women were hugging each other while the only two men stood apart. One was a sobbing mess while the other looked unfazed. They all had bleeding necks.

He returned his gaze to Evan, "An alliance? I do not recall."

Evan gasped, it sounded more like he couldn’t breathe than being shocked about Jael’s response.

"You can’t do this! You married my daughter."

Jael winced at the sound of Mauve being brought into this. He had no right to call her his daughter.

"One more word about her and I can’t promise to leave you unharmed. Where is the batch of blood for the month, Evan?" Jael asked, arching his head to the side. "It wasn’t delivered and according to my guards, it was on your order."

"M-my people struggle everyday, giving blood but you vampires refused to come to our aid even though we signed a treaty. We won’t g-give any more blood."

Jael stamped his feet loudly on the ground and the room went deathly silent. "You seem to misunderstand, Evan. You didn’t sign a treaty, make an alliance or whatever you may think this is. What you signed is a contract. One that says in exchange for the monthly batch of blood, it will stop my kind from doing things like this."

He paused and moved closer, putting his face in front of Evan who looked like he was hyperventilating at this point.

"Showing up at your house in the middle of the night," he tapped Evan on the cheeks. "It’s not my job to concern myself with every little inconvenience that might plague you and how you run your kingdom."

Evan’s pale face got even paler and Jael smirked. He pulled back, "If I get to the vampire region before the batch of blood for the month, I’ll tell my people to go wild. Then you’ll have a real war on your hands."

"You’ll get your b-blood." Evan said with his head bent and his hands clasped together.

"I don’t need confirmation from you and this goes without saying but should this repeat itself, I’ll have your head on a platter and I’ll do it in your sleep. You won’t even know you’re dead." Jael sneered at him revealing his fangs.

"Oh, the goddess," Lale said, clutching her chest. Her eyes were still leaking water and at this point, her entire face was covered in tears.

"Well, guess I’ll be on my way. Do have a lovely night." Jael said and Erick cackled.

He jumped out the window and his guards followed, he landed on a bed of flowers, crushing the petals.

His guards followed behind him, they dropped to the ground silently, barely making a noise. Commotion had already broken out and Jael could clearly hear Evan calling for his guards, yelling about how incompetent they were.

"Thank the heavens, we finished with hours to spare. This way we can take our time to find a good inn before sunrise. I’d suggest staying in the castle but the human king would most likely set us ablaze in the morning." Erick cackled at the end of his words as if what he said was the funniest thing ever.

"Just how much blood did you drink?" Damon asked.

Erick turned in his direction, glaring at him, "And what has that got to do with anything?"

"We are not slowing down," Jael said, interrupting the conversation.

"Excuse me Sire, but I cannot run in this state. Besides, we already drastically reduced our journey by getting here in a night and a half instead of three days. Even if we take it slow, we will still get to the castle in less than two nights. That’s a good enough time. Four nights instead of six."

"I said we are not slowing down. I certainly couldn’t care less about how you feel, Erick. You can always wait behind and return whenever you see fit."

Erick looked horrified, "I cannot run in this state my Lord. You told us to have a feast."

"I recall saying no such thing. I said go wild, you decided on a feast all by yourself."

Damon snickered, "I told you, you were drinking too much."

"Shut your mouth, Damon."

"Sire," Danag called. "If we head back home and run at your speed, we would barely make it to the Nolands by sunrise. There are no inns in the Nolands, Sire."

Jael glared at Danag, "Your sarcasm isn’t welcomed. I am sure we will find something, it could be a cave or a ditch for all I care." He had already spent the day in a cellar, he was sure he could handle worse.

"The chances of finding one that isn’t a Paler or Palers’ home is slim."

"Then we will fight them and take over their resting place. What you’re saying doesn’t sound like a problem to me, Danag."

"Yes, Sire. I know you didn’t get much sleep during the day, Sire. I am merely concerned for your wellbeing."

"Well, your concern is irritating. If you all have enough energy to chit chat, put it in your legs."

"I am going to have a stomach ache by morning," Erick whined.

"Who cares? I told you to be careful." Damon responded.

"It was a feast, you’re an idiot for not drinking to your heart’s content." Erick replied.

"Shut it Erick," Jael said. "Your problem is your own. Let’s get moving."

"Yes, Sire." They both said simultaneously as they took off into the night.

****************

King Evan was petrified but not only that, he was also pissed. How could a vampire do that to him, especially one who looked as young as his sons?

He was embarrassed in his own castle, his own room, in front of his wife and several servants. Made him a laughing stock, poke and made jabs at him but the worst is all was he had been threatened in his own house.

Evan held his neck at the thought of Jael’s words and the fear of his head on a platter grew. He couldn’t live like this.

He was certainly going to increase the guards and get rid of the old ones, they were incompetent. A new set of guards, strong ones.

There would be at least five accompanying him everywhere. Four in front of the door to his room and one in his bedroom. The guard wouldn’t be allowed to sleep until he was awake.

He would keep the key to the old secret passages by his bedside. As soon as he even sensed any threat, he would hide himself in there.

He was the only one with a key. He would lock himself in the walls even a vampire will have a hard time breaking the walls to get to him.

A loud knock roused Evan from his thoughts. He was the only one in his room having sent everyone off including his wife. He wanted to be alone, needed to be alone with his thoughts so he could strategize. He couldn’t let himself get killed by a vampire.

"Who is it?" He yelled loudly.

"I am sorry my King but you called for me."

"Come in. Send off the batch of blood and it must get to the Vampire Regions before sunrise tomorrow."

"My King," the man gasped. "That’s impossible."

"Impossible? You won’t find it impossible when I have your head on a platter. Make it happen, I don’t care what method you have to use!"

"Yes, My King."

"Get me a parchment letter and my seal. We would see who is really in charge here, I have tricks up my sleeves too." He mumbled the last past to himself.

"My King," the man called, not clearly hearing what Evan had said.

Evan turned and glared at him. "What are you still doing here? Get out and get me what I asked for. Get it now! If I have to repeat myself you’ll be sorry."

"Yes Sire!" The man cried and fled out the door.

King Evan sat on his bed fuming in anger but still scared. He would occasionally look around. The incident had shaken him to his core, there was no doubt about it, from the sweat pouring down his body and the look of fear in his eyes, it was more than obvious.

"My King, the letter and seal is here," the man said as soon as he opened the door.

"Good, get a pigeon ready. I need to send a letter tonight."
