The Vampire King's Possession -
Chapter 303. A Dead Rat
Chapter 303: 303. A Dead Rat
It was already past midnight when they went over the castle walls. They were huge walls and it was obvious someone was trying desperately hard to keep something out.
Jael smirked to himself as he landed on the soft grass but winced when he stood to his full height. Sitting on the bare floor was definitely not ideal. Coupled with the fact that all he could smell throughout the day was rotten fruits.
He had not been able to sleep a wink and had ended up just sitting in the corner. From the headache he was feeling, he should have tried really hard to sleep.
However even if the foodstuffs and the uncomfortable makeshift of a bed which was basically just a piece of blanket on the floor hadn’t been a problem for him, the constant noise in the house was more than enough to drive away every wink of sleep.
His guards, however, didn’t seem to have a problem falling asleep even Erick had knocked out pretty easily, leaving him to stare at the cobwebs and spiders, rats and cockroaches.
"Well, that was easy." Erick said, rubbing his hands against each other as he wiped away the dirt. "Which is a good thing, I want to get this business over with and out of here."
Jael looked to the sky, there wasn’t a moon in sight. Jael smirked, this couldn’t have gone any better. He wanted to be in Evan’s room before he could even guess he was in his castle walls.
"I am going to find Evan," Jael announced.
"Do you remember his room?" Damon asked.
"Don’t need to, I remember his vile smell."
"What do you need us to do?" Danag asked.
Jael paused for a second. They were in a plain field and from where he stood he could clearly see the front of the castle.
There were guards in the front of the castle but since they were so close to the wall, he was certain they couldn’t see them.
There were two huge fountains on both sides of the front and a path in the middle. Flowers and small trees covered a huge part of the front yard.
For a second, Jael thought about the front of his castle and how dull it looked compared to this one. Even in the darkness it was beautiful. Would Mauve want this?
As soon as the thought appeared, it disappeared as he turned away to the castle. His eyes squinted at the thought of Evan lying peacefully in his bed after disrupting their treaty.
"Sire," Danag called again. "What would you like us to do?"
Jael smirked, "Go wild, I am sure it has been a while since you all drank straight from the source."
Erick cracked his knuckles and took a step forward, "That’s the shit I like to hear." His fangs engorged, "Let’s feast."
"You got ten minutes, after that I want you all to bring as many humans as you can find to Evan’s room. I want to give him a present. Try to do this as quietly as possible. If he gets a whiff of this before I want him to, someone is definitely going to take responsibility."
"Yes Sire," they said simultaneously.
"Now go," he ordered.
With a whoosh sound they rushed toward the castle as fast as possible, scaling the wall and slipping through windows.
Jael heard a slight scream and smiled to himself. The poor victim, she must be terrified. It was silenced immediately and it was not loud enough. He only picked it up because he was a vampire.
However, someone seemed to have forgotten that. He needed to show Evan he was not to be toyed with. Besides, he had a matter he wanted to deal with him. This was going to be fun.
Jael’s eyes flickered as he took a step forward. It was easy to find which window one belonged to Evan. He could loudly heart the old fart’s snore, coupled with that smell that irritated his nostrils.
He slipped in easily, too easily. The window had been wide open. Someone was a little too confident about their safety. That was about to change.
Jael sat on the window pane as he stared into the room. It was a typical room. A huge bed with a couple sofas not too far off. A dresser, wardrobes and for some weird reason there was a statue in the room. It looked like Evan if he didn’t have a potbelly but rather rock hard abs, as if his several paintings on the wall, wasn’t enough.
Jael shook his head and turned his gaze to the bed. The human King was fast asleep with his mouth wide open as he snored very loudly.
His wife was sleep quietly, he could only hear her breathing, no additional sounds. She was laying on her side, her back to Evan.
Jael could not comprehend how she could sleep so peacefully with such a ruckus happening behind her.
Not even five minutes had passed and Jael was already bored. All around the castle, he could hear his guards getting more action than him.
He would have joined the fun but the thought of drinking another blood other than Mauve’s left a bad taste in the back of his throat.
There was also the fact that she gave him a hearty feast before he left. He was very far from hungry. The thought of the circumstances that led to that popped in his mind and he waved it away.
He moved closer to Evan, he certainly needed to keep himself busy and there was certainly no better way to do that. He stood directly over Evan and pinched his nose, stopping his breathing.
He expected this to wake the human but it didn’t, instead, he just shook his head releasing his nose from Jael’s grip and resumed snoring.
To think this defenseless old fart had the guts to withhold his batch of blood for the month because his ludicrous demands weren’t met.
To say he was seething with anger was an understatement. He wanted to claw his eyes out. However that would make Mauve see him as a monster and he wasn’t going for that kind of image, at least in her eyes.
He heard it, the sounds of human feet hitting the floor. They were coming. Good, he has completely run out of patience.
Within the blink of an eye, he turned on as many lamps as he could. The room brightened, he needed to give Evan ample vision.
"Evan," he said softly as he stood by the side of the bed. "Wakey, wakey, wakey," he added lightly tapping him on the shoulder.
He heard a groan and Evan turned to the side. "Evan," he tried again but this time around it woke his wife up.
She slowly raised her head up, rubbing her eyes with her brows furrowed. "What?" She whispered slowly, opening her eyes.
Her eyes rested on Jael and he winked, she opened her mouth and he knew she was about to let out a scream that would hurt his ears.
He brought his hand to his lips and shook his head, "I wouldn’t if I were you."
She covered her mouth with her hand and nodded her head. Jael heard her rapid heartbeat and smelt her fear that permeated the air. He took a deep breath and grinned.
"You sleep next to this thing? I am so sorry that your husband sleeps like a dead rat. I have been trying to wake him for more than five minutes now."
"Evan," he tried again.
The door was pushed open and Jael saw his three guards walk in with about five humans who were shaking to the roots of their hair.
"Would you look at that?" Jael said while pointing to the crowd. "The whole party is here."
"We weren’t sure how many you wanted," Erick said with a satisfied grin on his face. "Hunting humans is definitely better than hunting Palers."
"Because you’d die," Damon commented.
"Shut it!"
The smell of blood was strong in the air and there was some falling down Erick’s lips. From the color on their faces, Jael could tell they had their fill.
"He is not waking up," Danag said, gesturing at Evan with his chin.
"No, I have called sweetly, held his nose and still nothing. You even barged in here."
"Hey woman," Erick called out. "How do you wake your husband?"
She shook her head, tears streaming down her face. "I don’t know," her shaky voice grated Jael’s ears.
"Don’t worry, I can take care of this." He smiled.
Taking a finger, he stabbed it into Evan’s arm and the human immediately sat upright, his eyes wide open as a loud scream left his lips. He instinctively grabbed his arm.
"Finally," Jael said with a loud groan. "How nice of you to join the party."
"What?" Evan said with sleepy eyes. Jael smirked in his face and the smell of fear reached his nose. It was stronger than everyone else’s.
