The Vampire King's Possession
Chapter 299. Inferno

Chapter 299: 299. Inferno

The first meal took longer than Jael expected and by the time they were done eating, there was barely any time for anything else other than to leave.

Danag tried informing him of what he had put in place but when he realized that he was in no mood to listen, Danag had taken the hint and kept his mouth shut for the rest of the meal.

Jael wiped his lips onto the napkin and stood to his feet. Damon, Danag, and Erick rose simultaneously, following closely behind Jael as he headed for the door.

Jael got out of the dining hall to find Mack, Mill, and a few other servants waiting outside the door. Mack and a servant held bags. Jael knew immediately that it was what they needed for the journey.

"Sire," they all bowed as he appeared in front of them.

Jael slowed his footsteps and came to a full stop. The servants still kept their heads bowed while Mack and Mill raised theirs.

Mack took a step forward with the bag stretched out. "This is the supplies, Mister Herbert said it should be enough for three days and if used right can last five," he said and Damon immediately took the bag.

"I see," Jael said, turning his attention to Mill.

"I also packed up a change of clothes," Mack said and took the bag from the servant standing to him and handed it to Erick who already had his hand stretched out. He accepted it and strapped it over his shoulder.

Mack bowed to Jael again and then took a step back. Jael still had his gaze on Mill.

"Is she asleep?" He asked.

"I am afraid so, Sire." The vampire responded, her lips were a thin line at the end of her words. "She was asleep before I got to the room."

"I see. Don’t let her move around so much and give her everything she needs. Lots of liquids and food too. Also, watch her closely if you think anything is wrong send for Lord Kieran, immediately, on my orders."

Mill nodded, Jael could see the concern on her face and was surprised she wasn’t asking him questions but this was good, he doubted he was in the right frame of mind to give a proper explanation.

"We have to leave now," Danag said.

Jael glared at him but didn’t say anything. He turned his attention back to Mill, "We will be back in a few days."

"You don’t have to worry about anything, Sire," Mill replied.

"I hope so," Jael said and glanced at Mack who was standing two feet away from his sister. "You have orders to use force if there is ever a need to."

Mack nodded and bowed his head. Jael slowly turned away from them, hesitant to leave. He wanted to check on her one more time but he knew that was a terrible idea.

"Safe travels, your grace," Mill said.

"May the wind be in your favor," Mack added.

He walked to the front doors without looking back. The doors were thrown open and he was greeted with a gray sky and no sunlight.

There was a dark tint in the air signifying nightfall was fast approaching and by the sound of movements in the castle, he could tell the rest of the vampires were waking up.

He walked out the doors and heard his personal guards rush out behind him.

"I suppose I could lead the way." He said as he stepped down the stairs leading out of the castle

"Sire," Jael heard Danag say, the vampire had a familiar tone to his voice and Jael immediately knew that whatever he was about to say was bound to piss him off.

"What is it, Danag?" He asked without turning around. He dropped to the gravel, his feet made a soft crunchy sound as his weight landed on the stones.

He heard shuffling and Danag appeared in front of him with a weapon in his hand. Jael frowned as his eyes laid on the ax.

Jael frowned, recognizing the ax immediately. Inferno belonged to his father or to put it correctly it was the replica of his father’s ax, the original had been buried with whatever remains they had managed to find.

It was a double-headed battle ax with a metal handle and intricate designs. There was a red jewel embedded in the metal at the point where the two ax heads meet, on both sides.

The ax was at least three feet long. This would have been too long but a vampire has the strength to use it seamlessly.

"What is this?" Jael asked darkly.

"A weapon, your grace."

"I’d rather not," Jael said stubbornly, dismissing it with a wave of his hand.

"Please, Sire. I insist. It would be best if you had some kind of weapon."

Jael frowned, it was a huge ax, he couldn’t help but wonder how Danag had been able to keep it hidden until he revealed it.

"No, it would be best if we traveled light."

"You’ve carried Mauve all the way to Levaton’s castle, I am sure the weight of this ax is minimal to you, Sire," Danag said, his tone dripping with sarcasm.

Jael’s nose flared and he stared daggers at Danag. Danag shuffled on his feet and cleared his throat.

"I mean, I’m sure the weight won’t affect the overall journey and it would be best to have this on hand, it would be easy to deal with Palers this way," Danag said frantically.

"The ax stays, Danag."

"Sire, please," Danag begged, his eyes showing his desperation.

"Another word from you Danag and I’d have to rethink just how important your presence on this mission is." Jael was irked like he needed to be reminded about his father just before the journey.

"I understand, Sire. I apologize for bringing it up." Danag said with a bow and pulled away the ax. He retreated and handed the ax to the guard by the door.

Jael didn’t even wait for Danag to join them before he zoomed off into the night.
